There are some simpler roguelikes like Golden Krone Hotel and Path of Achra if you are interested. Older roguelikes (e.g. Nethack, Angband, DCSS) tend to be quite demanding.
Nerdy girlthing! I really enjoy chatting about games and manga :3

Good but then do not bother people with your “bigot is a meaningless word nowadays” when you say such hateful shit. That’s just pathetic.

Said dude who wrote this shit:
And it is at least partly because of a radical overreach in policy demands over the last decade by the “T” in LGBT. It has generated an inevitable backlash that is now hurting the other letters in the soup, of which I am one.
Maybe it’s you who are the problem, at least sometimes?

Counterargument: I don’t want to engage in good faith with a bigot.

Fair. This is the kind of genre where you learn the ropes of a game and sink hundreds of hours into it. It’s very satisafying but your first hours will be rough.

You’re only limited to 5 blocked domains for some reason.

Spreading awareness is against our TOS.

Yeah but I didn’t have experience with this game when writing this post. And honestly it’s not as newbie-friendly as the games in the post.
It makes a great second/third/fourth roguelike though!

I usually name every character in such games because I like that it makes my playthrough slightly more unique. I’m surprised that Crono and Lucca have their original names though (the screenshots aren’t particularly fresh). But given that I gave Marle such a lame name I guess I wasn’t feeling creative back then…

I was a little bit disappointed that there wasn’t any special reaction. Modern indie games spoiled me too much!

Well it doesn’t have permadeath, it just incorporates grid-based combat mechanics from roguelikes like Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and Brogue, to spice things up.

I’ve been away from Lemmy’s political discourse for awhile now since I was focused on making gaming content real on here. Is it really that bad nowadays? Do you have any recent examples on your mind?

Have you heard of Moonring? It’s a modern reimagination of the series (particularly 4 and beyond) with a hint from roguelikes’ combat and indie TTRPGs for the systems and the setting. I like the revamped talking interface and secrets scattered throughout its map.

I always drink from fountains in hope for some experience or at least some shock removal. I’m glad it’s not Nethack so there’s no 1% chance I will have to face an out-of-depth monster that easily one-shots me.
I remember time when kicking objects wasn’t explained in-game. When the hint was finally added, I felt in-love with the mechanic. Kicking is great, it’s one additional keypress and so many added opportunities!
Speaking of realistic mechanics, throwing is pretty important in this game. I only learned about its’ strength when I was watching ToneHack’s playthrough of IA.

Lemming to tankie pipeline is so real. I guess it makes since that’s why the devs made Lemmy in the first place. And now we all contribute to their recruitment strategy by making Lemmy more appealing to leftists who aren’t (yet) authoritarians.

I’ve fallen for this when playing Ultima IV. “I dunno it’s kinda too generic” Only realized how stupid my way of thinking was when some people on Lemmy pointed it out.

But I am not getting much visibility.
I’m afraid that’s just how it is. Tags aren’t very popular among Mastodon users in my experience so they don’t help much either (but I still recommend adding some tags). Literally the only thing that helped my posts getting seen is a boost from some popular Masto person.

Lots of bright colors - maybe some snowy winter landscape? Or a white desert of some sort idk. That’s just my Caves of Qud brainrot talking
I never played it but I’ve heard others calling it a roguelike so why not. I’m much more lenient with genre definitions than most roguelike fans haha
