Artixlinux@programming.dev•GNOME's dependence on systemd grows, Artix drops support for DE
1·4 months agoI used to use gnome, but I moved to XFCE when switching to Artix last year. I must say I think I like it better. I still get to use a convenient desktop that looks GNOME-ish, uses GTK, has a bunch of theme options, and is a lot more lightweight than GNOME without requiring systemd. It seems like the best of possible worlds at present, although I’ve wanted to try out a tiling window manager like dwm for fun. I’m not sure I’d be able to get used to/comfortable with using one as a daily driver though.

101·4 months agoIt’s already the case that banks don’t allow their apps to be used on rooted phones. I can imagine a similar possibility for desktop computers. A dreadful possibility, but a possibility nonetheless.

1·5 months agoThey’d have to. It would be the only way to make the changes uniform across distros. And of course, we could always use the unmodified version.

58·6 months agoThe fact that they destroyed the books is the most reprehensible thing to me. They could have resold or donated those books to libraries. Instead, they chose the ugliest and most wasteful thing they could possibly do. Despicable.

4·9 months agoApparently 96% of elementary school children now have laptops they take home from school? I’m glad I grew up in an era when we all had our own computers not owned by the government. 😂 It seems like absolute hell to be a kid these days. Constantly monitored and tracked by adults who want you to remain pure and innocent forever, not allowed to grow or explore anything on your own. And they wonder why kids aren’t independent and don’t want to learn anything.
