Okay, so what I was TRYING to write about last night was that Jim and I are getting closer to making some decisions about what we'll be doing next year. With housing so expensive around here, we really didn't think it was possible to even think about buying anything for a few years...BUT, Jim's been looking around when he goes on sales calls. Because he works from home, he's decided it would probably be more cost effective for us to live further from the city. His job covers all the mileage he has to put on the car for work (besides, he'll have the company car by then anyway) so logistically it just makes sense.
Anyway, he went on a couple appointments further southwest from here and he's found a couple towns that we can actually afford! I went online and was looking at some of the houses for sale and there are plenty of houses, big enough for us, updates, well taken care of homes that are WELL within our budget! It was actually a really exciting realization (yes, I know, the silly things that make us happy when we get older). I had my mom pull Jim's credit as well and his credit is almost there (and will be more than ready in 9 months when we get ready to buy)
It actually made our outlook quite a bit brighter. Our mortgage would be LESS than our current rent, plus we'll get the tax benefits again, PLUS we would have almost twice as much room as we do now...YAY!!! The girls could have their own room, Jim could have an office, and more room for visitors from Arizona/Mexico (wink wink)
Of course then we got into a huge fight about parenting that is still fizzling out even a day later.
And the most exciting thing going on in our lives?....Jorden will be here in less than 2 weeks!!!!! We don't have a ton of money to do anything super exciting, but we might attempt ice skating, and maybe we'll go to the Cape and spend time with Patty too.
And a big thank you to my fab 5 that now have me reading my scriptures and exercising...oh the horror!!! (you gals ROCK!)

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
I don't know what my deal was today, nothing out of the ordinary...Ainsley was a stink butt and Caelan was clingy but man is it grating on my last nerve! I just want to sew, is that so much to ask???!!!
Ainsley was happy to be back in school today after her winter break, and I was glad to have a short break (WAY too short since Caelan didn't nap nearly long enough) I managed to pick up a few supplies from Jo-Ann's for some more projects and make a decent dinner (meatballs and pasta) and do some very minor (MINOR) housecleaning. I should probably do some more of it too if Jim manages to get stink butt junior to sleep....strike that, she's now climbing on me, so much for that idea.
Jim scoped out a little town today that we're thinking of moving to next year. It's a little further out, but the nature of Jim's job makes it still totally doable.
Okay, this isn't working with kids on my lap...blah

Say cheese!
When Ainsley was a baby (and even now) it was easy to take pictures. She incredibly photogenic and loves to pose for the camera. She can just look natural and happy on command and I LOVED it.
Caelan is a totally different story. In fact I'm a little frustrated (hence the need for a blog entry here). She's absolutely adorable! Every bit as cute as Ainsley is, but I really struggle to "capture" her and sometimes I think I've just mentally given up. And I really don't want to. Ainsley's personality comes through in all her pictures so I take a LOT of her, but Caelan wants nothing to do with the camera.
Growing up, I know that pictures were a sore spot with one of my younger brothers. My mom didn't take nearly as many pictures of him as some of her other children (not on purpose of course, it just happened) and I don't want her to feel bad later on that I have 10x as many pictures of her older sister than I do of her.
I need to work on it. I often think about taking photography classes and getting a better camera, but then I think that maybe it's just a natural talent (photography) that I just don't have....I don't know. I tend to let that excuse hold me back from other things as well (scrapbooking anyone?)
I guess this came about because of last night. Caelan and I were playing on the couch and I was goofing with her hair, it ended up being a big poofy swoop on top of her head and Jim and I both agreed she looked oddly like Jimmy Neutron (yes, I'm a dork, I know this) so I tried to take a picture...16 pictures later, and I have nothing to show for it.
I supposed I'm on a "magnify your talents" kick right now where I just want to be fantastic at everything. Sewing, cleaning, cooking, singing, parenting, picture taking, scrapbooking, and many many (MANY) more. When Jim cuts me off from shopping, I guess this is what happens ;)

J is for Jelly
In Ainsley's alphabet book, the word for the letter J is Jelly and for some reason I think it's so incredibly cute the way she says it, I couldn't even explain it if I wanted to, but it just makes me smile when I hear it. She's been horribly bummed this week because it's winter break for her preschool, I can't seem to entertain her as much as she would like, but that's nothing new :)
Caelan, the monkey, started doing this thing with her mouth too that cracks me up. She puckers up her lips and then breathes in and out really hard, again, hard to explain, but just hilarious, and she knows it's funny too. Immediately after her demonstration she starts laughing hysterically and expects us to all follow suit.
Today was not a fun day to be a woman. I feel like I craved anything and everything I could get my hands on and that in turn made me feel like a huge cow....then 2pm rolls around and the monthly visitor shows up...DUH....I'd really been doing good with my overeating until today and I was not pleased with myself. At least this is temporary and hopefully tomorrow I'll feel a bit better.
I have to go visiting teaching tonight and I'm not exactly looking forward to it, but it will be nice to have it out of the way. I'm tempted to get a diet pepsi while I'm out, but my VT companion is a bit prudish so I don't know how she'd react to that. She probably already thinks I'm an apostate so I'm undecided on whether I should go with that persona or not...we'll see how I'm feeling once I get in the car.
My little brother Gavin is home in Arizona again....it doesn't feel quite real though since I'm not there to see him and hug him, but I know my mom is feeling a sense of relief having him back. He's already talking about coming to see me and seeing Boston, so maybe he'll come visit sometime before June....I can dream right?
In other good news, I have the car all day tomorrow, but I think the only thing I have on my brain is a trip to jo-ann's for supplies for my latest project scheme so maybe I'll get my quilt finished up tonight so I can justify it ;)
Okay, kids are crabby so I should get things under control before I leave.

The inane ramblings of my life...
So....things are good....I guess LOL
I've been sewing a crib set for Caelan all day, and it's turning out SO cute! I'll finish up the quilt tomorrow and then take pictures.
I thought Caelan might have pink eye so I took her to the doctor this morning, it turns out she has a blocked tear duct and she scratched her eye. I have to treat it with the same ointment, but at least it's not contagious. Jim was trying to get work done as well this morning, so I took the girls to Jo-ann's so he could have peace a quiet a little longer. I didn't have quite enough ribbon for the bumper pad so it worked out well for all of us ;)
In church on Sunday one of the talks was about giving up one thing this year that will bring you closer to God, and doing one thing better than will bring you closer to God. So we made 2 goals. We decided to give up computers completely on Sunday and to be more consistent with family home evening. That being said, I totally forgot to do family home evening tonight...DOH! I'm sure we'll have to get used to it again so I won't be too hard on myself.
My little brother comes home from his mission this week and it's so bittersweet. I'm so happy that he'll be reunited with his family, and then talking to my mom today I started bawling because I realized I wouldn't be there for it....I feel like I'm missing out. I'll see him in a few months though, so I'm just trying to focus on that.
I've been feeling quite blah lately and I have a feeling it's partly due to my lack of retail therapy....I mean I know saving money is for the greater good, but dang I miss shopping!
And I know my breastfeeding nazi friends (and I mean that in the most loving way possible!) will think I'm nuts, but I've started giving Caelan a bottle of formula before bed. I started it just as an experiment to see if it made a difference with sleeping. She was waking up 8 times a night EVERY night and my sanity was suffering. But it actually worked. The first night she only woke twice and I can't even describe how good I felt when I woke up. And she's been sleeping better ever since. One night I didn't give it to her and she woke up 8 times again, so I know it's helping and at least she's still getting breastmilk so I'm trying not to beat myself up about it. We both needed sleep and this is apparently the only way I was gonna get it. At least she still prefers me :P
Have I mentioned it's frickin' freezing here? Well it is.

incomprehensible spew
Ok, I have a lot of things weighing on my mind that I keep putting off writing out so I guess I'll give it a shot now while the kids are somewhat happy :)
The first is that I'm starting to like it here in Massachusetts. Honestly, I am. I think I'm over the initial shock and now I feel like the only thing I'm missing out on is my family, which is obviously still a huge thing to be missing, but I'm finding peace with everything and looking forward to going home in June and swimming in my mom's fantastic new pool LOL
I suppose the second thing would be money. The financial part of moving and living in New England and having this job (Jim's job) has also been a hard transition. Things looked really great when we thought about it all in Arizona and felt like this was the perfect opportunity for us, and I'm not saying it's not a good opportunity because it very well still could be, but it hasn't been as smooth sailing as we initially anticipated. The added expense of outrageous rent, expensive groceries, and added child support is taking its toll on me and I find my mind reeling at night about how we're going to pay all the bills and still provide for all the kids. At this point I think we're relying a lot on faith. Faith was a large part of moving here as we spent many nights praying about what to do, so we just have to have faith that is really was the right thing and that God will help us through the struggles and show us how to make everything work.
Today was an especially good day in Boston as we got a big fat dumping of snow, it was such a beautiful thing to wake up to this morning and I hope it continues through the night like they say it will. I know Jim thinks I'm insane, but I've really missed the snow and the being bundled up and craving hot cocoa on those especially cold days. Something about it just feels so right.
Ainsley and I pulled a bunch of our pictures out today to put them in our new frames and hang them on the wall. I don't have nearly enough pictures of Jorden :( but hopefully we'll get some more when she comes next month. If we go the very last day she's here I could probably justify making it Caelan's 1 year pictures too and get it all done in one shot. We're SO excited she's coming again. Jim gets all choked up every time he gets an email from her or talks to her on the phone after she's had a rough day. We definitely have a feeling of completeness when she's around, and I think we all agree that completeness is the way to go :)
And last but not least, today is Valentine's day. Jim and I didn't do anything for each other. He told me he loved me and I told him I loved him and that's good enough. We took our little Valentines to lunch and then we'll put them to bed early tonight and have dinner just the 2 of us.
He should be done working in the next hour or so, so maybe I'll get the kitchen clean and feel free to enjoy the evening.

back in business baby!!!!!
Quickie entry....
Caelan's sick again and teething so of course she's sleeping like crapola again...just when I thought we were making progress too!
Ainsley had a Valentine's Day party at preschool today and hasn't stopped talking about it since! :)
Jim's working hard and stressing about his sales numbers.
I'm stressed about money and wondering how long I'm going to have to wear the same pair of jeans before someone takes me on as a charity case.
Other than that nothing crazy. Missionaries are coming to dinner tonight so I need to go make some bread dough :)

Feeling Disconnected
Well my computer died...I'm posting from Jim's laptop right now since mine still doesn't want to work. Basically the hard drive crashed. It was under warranty so they sent us a new hard drive, but now I can't find my recovery disc so I have to wait for them to send me that now...it's been a nice break anyway. I haven't really missed it as much as I thought I would.
I miss Hanna though! Her phone died the same week my computer died so I haven't talked to her in DAYS, it's killing me! I think my mom is bugged with me because I keep calling her for companionship when I have something I would usually call Hanna for.
Ainsley started preschool on Thursday and just absolutely loves it. She's just in heaven. Hopefully the enthusiasm sticks around.
Caelan is crawling faster and is doing this adorable babbling thing. It's almost like she's having an incomprehensible conversation with herself.
Hmm...surprisingly I don't have much else to say even though I've been "out" for a week....oh well :)

The Birthday Hangover
It was an uneventful 27th birthday...We had some family over to watch the superbowl, I WAY overate, and that was about it.
Church was good, I'm really starting to love my calling. The kids are 8 and 9 years old and they are still in that phase of life where people older than them deserve a lot of respect and are worth listening to LOL. They're super sweet and each Sunday I like it more and more.
Ainsley loves her sunbeam class too. During sharing time yesterday, I was watching her class quite a bit. The class is mostly girls and they are some seriously energetic little girls! The teacher could hardly keep them contained they were having so much fun dancing in circles and hugging/tackling each other. Normally I would have been annoyed and tried to get her attention to behave, but it was just too adorable watching her with these little girls she calls her friends. I wonder if its my lack of "real" friends that brought it on, but seeing my little girl with playmates almost made me want to cry, like she was becoming this little person completely seperate from me. It's hard to explain, but the feeling was one of pride and sadness all at the same time.
We're getting better with our evening prayers too so that Ainsley likes saying it all by herself now. We were saying our bed time prayers a week ago I believe and she said "Please bless the food" and then she started laughing at herself, like "oops, wrong prayer" Too cute.
Caelan's birth certificate should be arriving today so I think I'll have Jim take us down to the drug store and get our passport photos taken so I can apply for them as soon as my MA driver's license arrives in the mail (should be soon)
Today I'm just working on the house a bit and brainstorming ways to earn money (part time job?) but getting a little frustrated. I know Jim's stressed about money because his sales goals are (in his opinion) too high to attain, meaning he doesn't get his full commissions. I wish there was more I could do to help out in that respect, but with a baby at home it's hard to explore anything full time that would be worth it financially. I have a feeling this year might be a little scary for us. And I feel helpless. My biggest contribution? Giving up my credit cards, which I guess will be helpful.
Hanna inspired me to work on getting more pictures of the girls, I don't take nearly enough these days.
Back to cleaning!

People think I'm an ostrich, but really I'm just a potato
I woke up this morning thinking I was going to clean my entire house, I really was going to! I thought if I cleaned it ALL today, I would be incredibly relaxed tomorrow and just enjoy the day....yeah, of course that didn't happen. We managed to get a lot of "picking up" done, but not really what I was going for.
Jim ended up having to leave at 10:30 to help a neighbor move a dresser, and by the time he got back it was time for his basketball game, and he wanted us to go with him. It was a stake championship game or something, but the other team never showed LOL
It was a nice little social occasion though with a couple girls from the ward. One of them in particular lives right here in my apartment complex and we should probably hang out more. I feel awkward talking to her most of the time though, not sure what it is. Maybe I'm paranoid. I met another mom that used cloth diapers though and we talked for almost an hour about that and other "crunchy" mom practices, I actually really enjoyed it :)
We stopped and got groceries and then came home. We ate dinner, watched a little tv, and then I bathed the girls. I think I lucked out tonight and they both went to sleep without a fight.
Jim destroyed his knee during basketball today so he's been a lump ever since and went to bed early, so here I sit at 8:30 with a completely quiet household...weird.
Jim and I are still going back and forth on the Mexico issue. He makes a good point, I make a good point, I still don't know what we've decided, but I know that if he says no, I'm not going to get over it easily (and maybe that means I'm a big fat baby, but I've been looking forward to this for MONTHS) Blah, I don't want to talk about it anymore.
I think Caelan's trying to say "hi" and a few weeks back I thought she got another tooth, but I was mistaken, she definitely still just has the 2. She's been a complete mess the last few days which could be caused by a couple things, but I'm hoping it's teething because the other stuff I can't really fix. Her crawling is getting a bit faster too. She's starting to go for things across the room now and *thinking* about pulling up. She's almost got it, but I think she's too scared :)
I'm exhausted from lack of sleep last night, I should probably think about going to bed.

I'm exhausted from lack of sleep last night, I should probably think about going to bed.

human milk for human babies!
Today was playgroup with a bunch of the mommies in our ward, it was tons of fun, once again. It was at Kristen's house and she lives on the air force base, so it's always a pain to make the effort, but we always have so much fun. Ainsley sometimes bullies other kids, but with these ones she's just sweet so I love letting her interact with them. 3 of our playgroup kids are in her sunbeam class at church so I'm glad she gets to know them a little better outside of church as well.
And I had a really great realization today, I LOVE my ward! I know I've said it before but I really do. We're all sitting there and I realize that every single one of the mommies breastfeeds and I think every single one of them has breastfed past a year. I'm still trying to convert them to babywearing and cloth diapering, but all in good time :)
One mommy today was particularly interested in the cloth diapers and was wondering if she could borrow a few of mine to try out, of course since I have WAY too many I told her that would be GREAT! Spreading the tree hugging love is what it's all about.
I asked Jim what we were doing on Sunday....he said "for your birthday?" and I had actually meant the Super Bowl...I forget my birthday is even coming, but really I'm hoping maybe we'll gorge ourselves with disgusting fattening food while we watch football. I'm sure he wants to take me to dinner or something tomorrow or Monday, but I'm not sure what I want. Dining out here is different than I'm used to. I had all my favorite places in Arizona and I don't really have any here...possibly because my favorite is Mexican food, and I have yet to be convinced that any halfway decent Mexican food even exists on this side of the country. I promise you I will be eating Cafe Rio at least 12 times when we go back this summer....I'm drooling just thinking about it.
I feel like the fog is starting to lift. Whether it's coming to terms with my new life, or better managed medication (or both) I don't really know, but I'm feeling better. I'm feeling optimistic and ready to start making the changes that I need to make, and a big part of it will be my marriage. I'm ready to love him again and ready to be able to say that my life is good and full and truly happy.
And we'll end with an adorable anecdote of the girls that happened today. Ainsley has this very strong attachment to her little stuffed Eyeore. I was holding Caelan in my arms and realized she had Eyeore in her hands when I picked her up. Ainsley was standing next to me trying to get it, but Caelan had figured that out and was playing what I can only call "keep away" with Ainsley. She was dangling it over her head and when Ainsley would get close she would hug it tight and they were both laughing hysterically, it was the sweetest exchange I think they've ever had. It was a good mommy moment for me, which I've been seriously lacking lately. Not that my kids are any different, but my mood was light enough today to really appreciate it, which hasn't happened in a while.
Time to get the kids ready for bed :)

I'm official
Today we became Massachusetts residents.
We spent almost 5 hours registering the car, insuring the car, and getting our MA driver's licenses. It was actually a little bit sad. I think that's why I have a hard time looking at real estate here too, not because I'm not interested, but because it makes things feel far too permenant for my liking.
I'm not ready for permanence just yet. I will be eventually, but for now, nope.
Jim and I talked a little more about Mexico. At least I didn't end up crying this time. He made some valid points, as did I, and I think we're coming to a compromise that we can both be happy with.
I'm also trying to get my depression under control. I've used moving here as an excuse to be a butt head, but really I need to focus on being a good mother and a good wife and I haven't been accomplishing either one. I think I'm going to work on starting fresh with everything next week. I'll make some housecleaning goals and work on a good routine for getting things done while Ainsley's at preschool. I also need to work on getting Caelan to spend at least part of the night in her crib. Don't get me wrong, I love co-sleeping, but I need a little me space.
The fabulous news of the day....I've lost 12 pounds....lots to go still, but I'm feeling wonderful. I'm down a pants size and ready for the next size down :)
