Addendum to Scott's post below

Scott meant to post these pictures with his Farmer's Market post but ran out of time and had to go to bed (he actually has to get up early), so here I am doing the honors. Kate's grandparents have already heard this story, but today at church we were sitting near this visiting family - the 18-year-old daughter had just been baptized and her mom showed up to support her for her confirmation. Anyway, they were sitting just behind us, and Kate, who likes to comment on all the people she sees, pointed to the mom and said, "Lady!" She smiled at Kate, who had now caught the attention of most of the people sitting around us. Kate looked at her a little longer, then pointed again and loudly declared, "Funny hair!" Her daughter started cracking up and we were so embarrassed! It was funny but I felt badly for the lady, especially since she was a visitor. She was smiling like she understood but also seemed a little embarrassed. Her hairstyle wasn't radical but it was a little spiky on top and apparently Kate thought it was amusing enough to comment. I fear that this is just the beginning of embarrassing tactless-child incidents. Anyone have a funny one to share? I know that I gave my mom her share of awkward moments (including once telling a man he was fat when we were stuck with him in an elevator) so maybe this is just karma.

Anyway, here's a photo where both father and daughter were taken by surprise.

Piano lesson.

Scott "styled" her hair. This is the clown/mad scientist/Beethoven look. At least it's growing.

When we ask Kate to smile for the camera, this is what we get - pure cheese.

Thanks to Grandma Swendsen for this cute bathing ensemble.

After a few minutes of trying to coax Kate to drop the last inch from the bed to the ground, we usually just leave her like this until her arms finally give out.

The double-chug. I can't imagine that diluted apple juice and milk taste that good together, but for Kate, it's all about the entertainment value.

Wearing glasses that belong to Austin (or Clint?), and the cute cherry dress from Grandma.

Austin had a longboarding accident. It wasn't pretty. Ask him to tell you about it sometime. Also, Kate was traumatized by his wounds and now "owie" and "Austin" are basically synonymous for her.

Here is a panoramic shot of Salt Lake that Scott took from a viewpoint we often hike to.

The Farmers Market

Given the soaring food prices and looking for a cultural experience, we went to the downtown Farmer's Market yesterday. I tried to capture the essence of the market with pictures and video, but I'm afraid most of the event was experienced through the olfactory system - pleasant and otherwise. We bought some tasty carrots that were similar to our own garden grown, some extra sweet corn, and some fresh raspberries that were freaking delicious.

The market is pretty crowded and Jen was standing right next to this guy while looking at an assortment of goat dairy products. I think she even bumped the snake without realizing it. It was like one of those times when someone has a huge spider on their back and you don't want them to freak out so you don't say anything. I waited until Jen had a step or two between her and the guy before I said anything. Who goes to busy over-crowded markets with their big ol' python and thinks that nobody will be bothered? I'll bet he's got some good stories.

We saw this guy later on with his wife and child who also had matching dreds. People can do what they want with themselves as adults, but I felt kinda bad for this kid who looked like he hadn't bathed in weeks.

Fresh produce stand.

For ten points, see if you can tell what movie sound effect this guy was going for on his didgeridoo. You'll have to listen closely and filter out all the other background noises.
