Chicken

Saw this today on Pinterest.com. Couldn't help but laugh outloud. I hope ya'll find as funny as I did!
This morning I had a fight with Victor about towels. I can’t tell you the details because it jwasn’t interesting enough to document at the time, but it was basically me telling Victor I needed to buy new bath towels, and Victor insisting that I NOT buy towels because I “just bought new towels“. Then I pointed out that the last towels I’d bought were hot pink beach towels, and he was all “EXACTLY” and then I hit my head against the wall for an hour. Then Laura came to pick me up so we could go to the discount outlet together, and as Victor gave me a kiss goodbye he lovingly whispered, “You are not allowed to bring any more dang towels in this house or I will strangle you“. And that was exactly what I was still echoing through my head an hour later, when Laura and I stopped our shopping carts and stared up in confused, silent awe at a display of enormous metal chickens, made from rusted oil drums. Laura: I think you need one of those. me: You’re joking, but they’re kind of horrifically awesome. Laura: I’m not joking. We need to buy you one. me: The 5-foot tall one was $300, marked down to $100. That’s like, $200 worth of chicken for free. Laura: You’d be crazy not to buy that. I mean, look at it. IT’S FULL OF WHIMSY. me: Victor’d be pissed. Laura: Yup. me: But on the plus side? It’s not towels. Laura: Yup. me: We will name him Henry. Or Charlie. Or O’Shannesy. Laura: Or Beyoncé. me: Or Beyoncé. Yes. And when our friends are sad we can leave him at their front door to cheer them up. Laura: Exactly. It’ll be like, “You thought *yesterday* was bad? Well, now you have a enormous metal chicken to deal with. Perspective. Now you have it.” Then we flagged down a salesman, and we were all “What can you tell us about these chickens?”, as if we were in an art gallery, and not in a store that specializes in last years’ bathmats. He didn’t know anything about them, but he said that they’d only only sold one and it was to a really drunk lady, and then Laura and I were all “SOLD. All this chicken belongs to us now.” (Insert-inappropriate-cock-joke-here.) So he loaded it onto a trolley, but Beyoncé was surprisingly unstable, and the giant 5 foot metal chicken crashed over onto the floor. And Laura and I were all “CHICKEN DOWN! CLEAN-UP IN AISLE 3″ but he didn’t laugh. Then the manager came to see what was causing all the commotion, and that’s when he found the very-conservative salesman unhappily struggling to right an enthusiastically pointy chicken which was almost as tall as he was. The salesman was having a hard time, and he told everyone to stand back “because this chicken will cut you“, and at first I thought he meant it as a threat, like “That chicken has a shiv”, but turns out he just meant that all the chickens’ ends were sharp and rusty. It was awesome, and Laura and I agreed that even if we got tetanus, this chicken had already paid for himself even before we got it in her truck. Then we got to my house and quietly snuck the chicken up to my front door, rang the doorbell, and hid around the corner. Knock-knock. Victor opened the door and looked at the chicken in stunned silence for about 3 seconds. Then he sighed, closed the door and walked away. Laura: What the heck? That’s it? That’s the only reaction we get? me: That’s it. He’s a hard man to rattle. Victor was surprisingly pissed that I’d “wasted money” on an enormous chicken, because apparently he couldn’t appreciate the hysterical value of a 5 foot chicken ringing the doorbell. Then I said, “Well, at least it’s not towels” and apparently that was the wrong thing to say because that’s when Victor screamed and stormed off, but I knew he was locked in his office because I could hear him punching things in there. Then I yelled through his door, “It’s an anniversary gift for you, asshole. Two whole weeks early. 15 YEARS IS BIG METAL CHICKENS.” Then he yelled that he wanted it gone, but I couldn’t move it myself, so instead I said okay and went to watch tv. Then when the UPS guy came I hid, but he was all “Dude. Nice chicken” and Victor yelled, “IT IS NOT A NICE CHICKEN”. Which was probably very confusing to the UPS guy, who was just trying to be polite, Victor. Victor seemed more disgruntled than usual, so I finally dragged the chicken into the backyard and wedged it into a clump of trees so that it could scare the snakes away. Then I came in and Victor angrily pulled me into his office so that I could see that I’d stationed Beyoncé directly in front of his only window. And I was all “Exactly. YOU’RE WELCOME.” I told him that he could move Beyoncé if he wanted to, but he totally hasn’t. Probably because of all of the giant rocks I piled on Beyonce’s feet to dissuade burglars. Or possibly because Beyoncé is growing on him. Still, I can’t help but think that we wouldn’t even be having this argument if Beyoncé was towels. Honestly, this whole chicken is really a lesson in picking your battles more carefully. Plus, he’s awesome and I can’t stop giggling every time I look at him. Beyoncé, that is. Best. 15th anniversary. ever.a

re-post

so I haven't posted anything in forever, but I found an old post that I am re-posting it because it is still so revelant to my daily life. I am also posting comments people made because they are so true and made me laugh right out loud! I love all of my friends and those that are moms that struggle with the same things as all of us moms....
Whoever tells you that being a mom is a glamorous job..is just...well...LYING! I don't know if its the loads and loads of laundry that are piling up, the dishes that seem to never end, how the house is constantly a mess, that my husband isn't home, the grocery shopping needs to get done, bills need to get paid, but I am just tired! Do you other moms every feel this way? Do things just get overwhelming sometimes for you? Does this feeling ever end? I am grateful though..I have such a wonderful family and I see the fruits of my labors, I guess I just needed to vent a little. As women we have so much on our plate so much on our minds and so much pressure on us. I am reminded by something that my sweet husband told me not to long ago...you don't answer to anyone but the Lord! It's not always easy for me to remember that, but when I start feeling bad for myself and overwhelmed his counsel pops into my head.

COMMENTS:
Funny you mention this, I've been thinking some of the same things AND a friend of mine posted something similar on her blog, maybe it's going around like a cold or the flu...Here's what I think:
1. It's OK to feel that way sometimes and I think ALL mom's/women feel that way at one time or another!
2. And not to get all preachy or anything but I firmly believe that Satan would like us to feel inadequate and discouraged, he needs to break down the family to accomplish the things he wants too.
3.I recently read somewhere about giving up the idea of making everything perfect and just embracing the idea that sometimes OK is good enough, which led the author to feel happier.
Anyway...thanks for sharing and don't be too discouraged!

I think it must be going around like the flu. I keep thinking that tomorrow will be different but when I wake up but it never is and often it's even worse. I agree with the prevous coment that it is satan trying to get us down. I don't have any ideas but just an amen sister I feel your pain.

Dishes? Laundry? Mine are always done and I wear heels while I'm doing it! Of course, that's only after I got up early to work out, read and played with my children and made love to my husband!!!
HAHAHA!
There's just not enough time in the day...I love Cory's advice. I really did have to let go of what people think of me. If someone stops by at 2:00 and I'm still in work out clothes, my kids still in jammies and breakfast and lunch dishes still in the sink, I don't apologize. That is me, like or not, take it or leave it. I'm not perfect and I won't judge you for not being either!!

'm like Kim, My house is always clean, My kids are always perfect, and I Never lose my temper with them! Um, yeah right!
I like what Kelli said especally #2 - I screwed up everyday, but I don't let it bring me down. I just try each day to do my best and know that it's okay (and I truly live stress free!)

Kelly- according to Isaac- you make motherhood GLAMOROUS! I JUST LOVE YOU and you want to know the reason- YOU ARE SO REAL- YOU ARE SUCH A GENUINE PERSON- and you are a ton of fun- that is what your kids are going to relish about you as a mother- is that you really made their childhood fun and full of fun memories- especially when you are struggling with Corys schedule & the awesome student budget! That is why I just really admire you because you seem to find joy in your life- despite imperfect situations! I just think you are great!

My personal favorite:

Bryan: Do I have a pressed shirt to wear?

MJ: Umm, It is in the dryer- I proably need to fluff it.

Bryan: Hey, I have an idea- why not make it easy on yourself and try a little thing called the dry cleaners!

MJ: I"M FLUFFING YOUR SHIRT RIGHT NOW+ AND I'm NOT DRIVING TO THE FLIPPING DRY CLEANERS! WHY cAN"T people be happy with their NEWLY FLUFFED SHIRTS!

I just am sayin... perfection is over RATED!
aye yi yi!

So good to read this entry today because I am definitely having one of those days. Hmmm . . . still not unpacked from our trip, laundry to rotate, enrichment meeting to prep for, piano accompaniment to practice for, dusty, dusty shelves . . . but instead I watched American Idol and now I'm catching up on everyone's blogs. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels tired and overwhelmed sometimes. It's always great to have each other to support.

Baptism

I can't believe my daughter is 8! She was baptized this last Saturday and it was such a wonderful day. It was extra special that her best friend Paige and her sister and brother were able to come and visit from Utah(more on that later).

Another Move

About three weeks ago Cory's old boss offered him a job in Houston. This couldn't be more of a blessing because Cory is miserable here at his job...lets just say the work environment is, well....harsh (and I don't mean case load). So after much prayer and fasting, we decided it would be the best move for the family. I had a friend ask me if we were regretting the decision (the move to the other job is a huge pay cut). I told her, "no", as soon as he accepted the offer I felt so strongly that this was the right decision. I have made some lifelong friends here, and as excited I am to go to Houston, I am sad to leave my friends here. Last Sat we went out for a girls night. So, we move Thurs night and settle in our new place in Spring. I can't wait to get back to some great friends!!!!
