Magical Christmas Cat

12/24/2008 05:16:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (0)

Merry Christmas everyone!!! I hope that everyone has a great holiday.

A good friend sent me a Amazon gift card so I got to go book shopping!! I bought:

Love Under Seige by Samantha Kane
Broken Wing by Judith James
Sons of Amber by Bianca D'Arc
Surrender
by Kimberly Zant
Their One and Only by Trista Ann Michaels

I thought this book was an appropriate post for today, it is the only holiday book I read this year.

The Magical Christmas Cat (anthology with Psy/Changeling and Breed stories) by Lora Leigh, Nalini Singh, Erin McCarty, and Linda Winstead Jones

STROKE OF ENTICEMENT by Nalini Singh
Meeting and relationship between Leopard Changeling, Zach, and human, Annie. Annie is the schoolteacher in the area that teachers most of the Changeling children for the pack. Annie has a slight disability walking but she does not let it get her down. Zach is so sweet and patient. I loved this story.
CHRISTMAS BREE by Erin McCarthy
Honestly did not read this one.
SWEET DREAMS by Linda Winstead Jones
Very different. Unknown to Ruby she is slated to be the next virgin sacrifice to a nasty demon. She is plagued by a small figurine of a cat that she cannot get rid of no matter how hard she tries. Zane is her coworker and neighbor that seems to know more about it than he should. Is he a good guy or bad. Interesting story, alot of story packed into a little bit of space, very fast paced.
CHRISTMAS HEAT by Lora Leigh
A new Breed story!!! Hayley is the human librarian for the town near Sanctuary. She is also the only witness of the conspiracy from the last book (Mercury's War). So now someone is trying to kill her. Noble has been waiting for her for a year before this happens and when her life is in danger all bets are off of him waiting any longer. Hayley is so sweet, she loves Christmas and wants to share that with everyone around her. The Breeds do not really celebrate it, but she is determined to spread a little cheer this holiday. Great story :)

Mercury's War and Happy Thanksgiving

11/26/2008 01:24:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (1)

Well, still swollen and can't talk well, Thanksgiving will be interesting. I hope that everyone has a great holiday and remembers the reason for holiday, to be thankful for what we have been given. I am thankful for so many things and thank God everyday for all He has given me.

Thank you to all my blog friends out there for listening to my rants and supporting me through my pregnancy and excellent book recommendations. Have a great holiday. Remember on holidays there are no calories :)

I took a trip to my ubs and got a few books:
Master by Colette Gale (Erotic retelling of the Count of Monte Cristo - excellent book)
The Art of Desire by Cherie Feather
Nauti Dreams by Lora Leigh
Veiled Truth by Vivi Anna (Nocturne that was very good)

Mercury's War (Breeds Book 16) by Lora Leigh

Someone has been slipping the Sanctuary’s secure information to a pharmaceutical company. Now it’s up to Ria Rodriguez to pose as a clerk and uncover the leak. Yet she has no idea of the danger she’s about to encounter—or the passion she’s about to ignite in one of the greatest Breeds ever created.

This is one of my new favorites in this series. The heat between Mercury and Ria was, wow. I love the storyline and how they got together. I loved that it was not the typical mating heat like in the other books. There was a lot to love about this book.
Mercury was created specifically to have more feline DNA than the other Breeds so he looks more feline than the other Breeds. When he was in the labs he found his mate and then lost her when she was killed on a mission. So he is faced with the knowledge that his mate is gone and he will be alone. So when he meets Ria and the sparks fly, it is just lust right? Mother Nature has other ideas.
Like I said the storyline was awesome, it kept me guessing and kept me very engrossed. I am anxious to see what will happen with Ely and still haven't decided whether to like Jonas or hate him. We will see. Can't wait for the next book, Coyote's Mate.

Dawn's Awakening and Soul Deep

2/06/2008 08:51:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (2)

Well I went to the doctor's for my follow up from my biopsy. He said that everything came back good. It is a fiborus tumor of some sort. He gave me the exact name but I do not remember it. He is planning on removing it after I have the baby and am done "using" my breast. It was funny I was in there for less than 2 minutes for me to pull up my shirt him look at the incision and say "looks good". And I paid $25 bucks for that. I could have phoned that in. But I am glad that everything "looks good". I can tell that I am pregnant because I cry at the drop of a hat sometimes now. Both of the books below made me cry at some point.

Dawn's Awakening (The Breeds, Book 4)Dawn's Awakening by Lora Leigh
The runt of the lab she was created in, Dawn Daniels endured years of torture by her pride brother and the council soldiers. Finally freed from her torment, she’s now a Breed Enforcer, in control of her own life. Until she’s assigned to protect the one man destined to be her mate—and realizes it’s far too easy to lose total control… One of the Breed’s most important supporters, Seth Lawrence has spent years trying to forget Dawn, knowing that her lost innocence has made it impossible for her to get close to anyone. But suddenly neither of them can find the strength to fight the overwhelming passion between them. At least until the most brutal tormentor from Dawn’s past reappears—and threatens to destroy their newfound love, along with their lives…

Great story. Awesome addition to the series. I seem to be reading a lot of stories lately with heroines who have had horrible childhoods (Beautiful Girl, Mine to Possess, The Empath) . I am sensing a theme.

Soul Deep (Coyote Breeds)Soul Deep by Lora Leigh
Book 1 in the Coyote Breeds series. Mother Nature has a way of making the most unlikely couples 'fit'. And what could be more unlikely than a sassy, independent President's daughter who doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut and a loner Coyote Breed with a hunger for a cute rosebud mouth that he's determined to still. The vote for Breed Law is coming down the pike. Kiowa's job is to watch Amanda, the President's daughter look, but not touch. Just make sure the Goof Troop, the Secret Service detail assigned to protect her, do their job until the law is passed. But when they don't and the bad guys move in to take her out, Kiowa reluctantly slips in to the rescue, snatching her away to safety. But she isn't going to come easy and it takes more than smooth talking to make her see his point of view. For a man who's had nothing, Amanda Marion is food for the hunger that has tortured him, the reality to every dream Kiowa never dared believe in. What he feels for her is more than heat, more than love. She breathes life into his hardened heart, melting the icy chill that has protected him all his life, and touches a part of him that he thought had died his soul. And now he'll kill anyone who tries to take her away from him. But the one person he can't fight is Amanda, and when she wants to leave...

Very hot book.

Jacob's Faith

Jacob's Faith (Wolf Breeds, Book 2)
Jacob's Faith (Wolf Breeds book 2) by Lora Leigh
They are a new breed, a new race. Engineered rather than born, trained rather than raised, and their unique genetics have created more than one surprise...
Jacob left Faith six years before, unaware that the mark he left on her also left her in an agony of sexual heat that never dimmed. Now Jacob and Faith are together again, but surprises lurk around every corner and dangers as dark and deadly as their very creation surround them in more ways than one.

I finally got to read this. I know that there is another one before it, but I got this one used so I was not going to complain. I kind of reminds me of Kiss of Heat though with him leaving her for 6 years and stuff. Not my favorite of the series, but I love the Breeds.

Tempting Evil and Kiss of Heat

Kiss of Heat: Feline Breeds 3Kiss of Heat (Breed Series book 4) by Lora Leigh

I had been waiting for this book and was not disappointed. I enjoyed it and thought that it was a great addition to the series. I do wish that there had been a little more background info about their history earlier in the book and at times it seemed a bit disjointed. So that kind of brought it down from the "awesome"catagory. But I loved the storyline.

They've waited a decade to come together. Long years filled with unbearable pain, and soul-wrenching torment that have changed them both. Left wounds that have laid their souls bare. Wounds that stand one chance of healing if only they could stop fighting each other long enough for the truth to work its healing balm. Kane, a relentless warrior, lost more than his heart to Sherra in a night of mating passion that marked them both for life. But news of her death ripped his soul apart. For years he has fought to avenge the death of the woman he loved more than his own life, by revealing the deceit and cruelty of the Council that created the Breeds. But Sherra didn't die. In a cruel and evil twist she was convinced by her sadistic handlers that the man she had given her body, heart and soul to had betrayed not only her, but the child she carried and lost. Amid the rapidly escalating violence against the Feline Breeds, Kane and Sherra learn that there's more to mating than just the "heat", just as there's more to love than just the sex

Tempting EvilTempting Evil (Book 3 of the Riley Jensen Guardian books) by Keri Arthur

This is the third installment and I think there is just one more, Dangerous Games which is supposed to come out the end of March. But the first two books are Full Moon Rising and Kissing Sin. The series is a great story that has to be read in order. I can't wait for Dangerous Games. I am really enjoying this series so far. But I will caution what I did before, if you do not like the heroine sleeping with anyone beside the hero then you probably not like this book. I also like the fact (and I said this before) that you are not positive exactly who the hero is going to be.

In a world of sorcery and seduction, the nights bring out the beautiful, the damned, and the desired. Here, Riley Jenson is on her own–half werewolf, half vampire, working for an organization created to police the supernatural races. Trusting her superiors and lovers barely more than she trusts her worst enemies, Riley plays by her own set of rules. Her latest mission: to enter the heavily guarded pleasure palace of a criminal named Deshon Starr–a madman-scientist who’s been messing around in the gene pool for decades.

With two sexy men–a cool, seductive vampire and an irresistibly hot wolf–vying for her attention, Riley must keep focused. Because saving the world from Deshon Starr will mean saving herself–from the trap that’s closing in around her. . . .

Tempting the Beast, Elizabeth's Wolf and Harmony's Way

1/28/2007 03:18:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (4)

Tempting the Beast: Feline Breeds 1 Tempting the Beast by Lora Leigh
This is the first book in her Breed series. The Breed series is also split into three categories based on the animal (Feline Breeds, Wolf Breeds and Coyote Breeds). But this is the first of them all. You can get the reading order (as opposed to the series' orders) from Lora Leigh's site. They all take place in the same world and have some interaction with each other but this one gives the background for them all.

Callan Lyons is a genetic experiment, one of six fighting for freedom and the survival of their Pride. Merinus Tyler is the reporter who will tempt him, draw him, until the fury of the "mating frenzy" locks them into a battle of sexual heat they cannot escape.

The evil Genetics Council is hot on their trail. Leaving a trail of their own of deception and blood. Callan will use his strength to try and save them both...and do all in his power to keep his woman in the process.
(description from Ellora's Cave)

Elizabeth's Wolf
Elizabeth's Wolf by Lora Leigh
This is part of the Wolf Breed series but is actually the third in the overall reading order. I loved it. It has great romance as well as some suspense in it to round it out. Great book.

She brought him back from death and made him live again.
Dash thought himself alone, a soldier, a fighting machine and no more.
Elizabeth made him realize he was a man.
Danger surrounds the woman his soul marked as his mate, death and blood and a treachery that goes beyond even his worst nightmares. But he will protect her and what she claims as her own. He was created to kill, trained to do it efficiently, and only a man bound to her, heart and soul, will have the strength to save Elizabeth and her prized possession.

He was a lone wolf. A man alone. No pack, no family, no one to call his own until one single, innocent letter awoke Elizabeth's wolf.
(Description from Ellora's Cave)

Harmony's Way (Berkley Sensation)
Harmony's Way by Lora Leigh
I loved this book. I am loving the whole series so far and very much recommend it.

This book comes after the book Megan's Mark (which I loved). The hero is Megan's cousin, Lance Jacobs, who is the sheriff in Broken Butte, New Mexico. The heroine is Feline Breed, Harmony Lancaster. She is an assasin and has been since she was 5 years old. She was raised in the labs and used by them to kill unsuspecting targets. When she got old enough and strog enough she killed everyone in her lab and escaped. Now she is still an assasin, but now she kills people who prey on children. But her time is up, the Breed council needs to put her on a leash while they are trying to negotiate with the government. So she is captured and given an ultimatum, she lives in Broken Butte, NM as a Breed liason and keeps her nose clean for 6 months or she is executed. Labels: ,

Hot Spell

5/18/2006 02:02:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (0)

Hot SpellHot Spell by Emma Holly, Lora Leigh, Shiloh Walker and Meljean Brook

This book was great. I enjoyed all four stories. I have to say that Ms Brook's story was probably my least favorite of the four though. I liked it but I wanted it to be longer, it felt to be lacking something. I think also that I was not crazy about the heroine in that story. She uses him and then he comes back still in love with her and because I did not see her during those months that he was gone, she was still a jerk in my mind and that turned me off to her as a h. I think I wanted more about her while he was gone and that would have helped me enjoy it more.

The Countess's Pleasure by Emma Holly
This is in the same world as her book, The Demon's Daughter (which was very good). It takes place in the demon city of Bhamjran. The world is kind of like an alternate regency England but with a different species living among humans. Georgiana, widowed Countess of Ware, is visting the demon capital of Bhamjran and decides to visit an erotic exhibition for females only. She is looking for answers about sexuality and herself. And she findshim (Iyan) there.

The Breed Next Door by Lora Leigh
This story is in her Breed/Fixed series that she writes for EC and now Berkley (Megan's Mark that I read comes after it). For more about the Breed series see entry for Megan's Mark.
It is the story of Tarek and Lyra. Tarek (Lion Breed) moves in next door to Lyra (human whose 3 brothers are in SF and helped the Breeds escape) who is attracted to him, but thinks that he is a menace to her landscaping. One night Tarek sees someone trying to break into Lyra's house and he stops him and Lyra realizes that Tarek is a Breed. He realizes a little later that Lyra is his mate.

Falling For Anthony by Meljean Brook
Takes place in 1811 in England. Anthony (an impoverished gentleman) is indebted to the Ames-Beaumont family who paid for him to go through medical school. So to pay that debt he has to be the personal physician to a family friend for the duration of the Napoleonic war. Before he leaves the daughter of the family (and twin sister to his best friend Colin), Emily, seduces him to be rid of her virginity. Well, Anthony goes to war and is faced with more than he bargined for when he sees a nosferatu sucking on some corpses. The nostferatu kills Anthony, but because of his strong spirit he is turned into a Guardian (basically guardian angels i.e. Michael who is in charge). Nine months into his training Anthony is told by Michael to go back and rescue the Ames-Beaumont family before they are all killed. Colin has been bitten by the nosferatu and Emily has to chain him to the bed each night to protect himself and others.

The Blood Kiss by Shiloh Walker
This was the story of Roman Montgomery (Werewolf King of Wolfclan Montgomery) and Julianna Capiet (daughter of Vampire Eduard Capiet king of his clan). It is intrinsically a retelling of Romeo and Juliet with a paranormal twist. It was fun and had much happier ending.

Megan's Mark

5/02/2006 06:20:00 PM / Posted by Kris / comments (0)

Megan's Mark by Lora Leigh

Started reading this because Angela Knight recommends it on the cover and I like her so I figured I would try it. It was good, but it is in the middle of a series. She has a Breed Series put out by Ellora's Cave and this is part of it. It can be read alone, but I hate coming in in the middle. But there are like 9 other stories in the series. One of which is in Hot Spell with Emma Holly that I have been wanting anyway. So I am not sure if I will continue this one.
This is what I have been able to put together about the series. It is a futuristic set in 2023 and the government has made genetically engineered soldiers combining human and animal DNA and the Council put in charge of them treated them like disposable soldiers and playthings (they raped the females). Now the Breeds have been able to pass an act or something to protect themselves from mistreatment. But the Council is not going for that and wants their "toys" back or destroyed.

The story is about Feline Breed Braden Arness and empath, Megan Fields. To protect herself from her abilities Megan lives and works as a sheriff's deputy in the middle of nowhere, Arizona where she grew up eventhough she longs for adventure. For some reason unknown at the beginning of the book someone high up (presumably in the Council) wants Megan dead. To get to her the bad guys murdered 2 Breed in the area that she was patrolling that day. Braden is also there searching for the 2 Breeds that had disappeared. After the bad guys try to kill her, she is put into Braden's care. That does not sit well with her because she can take care of herself and braden finds that he has his large hands full with this assignment.
