Bevanism

This morning while we had the figure skaters on TV they were talking about a girl who was only 14 so she was too young to be in the Olympics. Katie ask Doug how old someone had to me to be in the Olympics, Doug said 16.
Bevan said:
"Well, then how did I get to be in the Olympics if I'm not 16? Oh yeah, I didn't."

Tavaci

May 6, 2011
I think I've mentioned (once or twice) how much I love Tavaci. But it's true, I do, I really do! It is so fun having the three kids all doing it. The Spring program didn't disappoint. The theme was "Celebrate You". I love that theme. I think I'd really love my kids to learn to celebrate them. They sang so many fun songs. Bevan didn't seem to sing many words but did all the dance moves. I thought it was because he was too young to be coordinated enough to do them both together but a few days later I saw him in the van dance and singing away. I guess he was just a little overwhelmed with all the people and lights. But he was still so fun to watch! The girls were wonderful as always! Katie had to two small group numbers.

Because the kids officially "graduate" at the end of 6th grade they get a trophy that is 1" tall for every year they were in Tavaci. I think Katie's was 6" tall. She is allowed to come back one more year, so thankfully, this wasn't her last year. I think we might all be shedding tears next year. These are her teachers- Suzanne and Karen- what great, patient women!

Conquer the Canyon 5k #2

5k #2. Our hometown 5k. It is a tough one. Straight up the canyon and straight back down. It makes for a crazy Health Days day and every year we say we aren't going to do it the next year. But, we love it and so we always do.

Alesa, Anita, Me, Tori

Team Runamuck. These are the terrific girls who are doing this with me. I love these girls!

We're all holding up the number of race that we are on. Notice my bib number? yup #1! Cool! As Anita said "The Kenyans usually get that number." I was enjoying having it because it was the only time that'll happen.

All of us who were doing the 5k.

Me, Alesa, Savannah, Katie, Maddie

One of my cheerleaders. They are as important to me as anyone!

All of us including the "Mayor Milers"

Dallin, Hailey, Bevan

Hailey & Bevan during the "walk section" of the Mayor's Mile.

Dallin was too fast and go away from the camera man.

Here comes Anita to the finish line- yeah, she's already fast!

And Alesa is not too far behind- even after 2 weeks of a cold.

Here they come. It was a photo finish!

Felice was waiting for me at the top of the canyon (I was suprised!) and she talked me down the whole way. "Pretend like there is a hook holding your body up, even breathes, nice light feet..."

This was about the time I saw the finish line and that was all I could see. I had a good finish- the rest of the race, hmmm...

We LOVE our shirts!!!

Katie really is an amazing sister!

Katie (usually) plays with her sibling willingly, especially Bevan. This is such a huge help to me, especially with Doug being gone so much. This winter, after one of our big snow storms, Katie took Bevan out to play in the snow and try out their sleds they got for Christmas.

test

So, I noticed my blog didn't update on people's blog rolls. Weird. I'm posting this to see if it worked. I did three updates. That should count as something! :)

The Biggest Loser 5k

We're doing it again. But this time we're dragging others with us, our friends Tori and Anita. This year we are doing 11 races in 2011- maybe even a 10k thrown in. The first one was Saturday, March 26th. (Happy birthday to Mom!) It was a fun 5k, probably the most fun I've ever had! Loved it! And a terrific one to start our goal off with. The race was at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre in St. George, UT.

As we pulled into the parking lot I said "Hey, that person has a real Biggest Loser shirt. That's not fair!" Someone else said "She's a real Biggest Loser contestant." "Hey that's Sarah, from this season." I told Alesa (since she was the first on out of the car) to tell her we were cheering for her. Sarah was so cute and gracious and her brother took our picture. What a great way to start the day!

There was SO much excitement at the starting line! They brought out the "Biggest Loser" contestants right before the start. They got us all hyped up and we even had a couple of minutes to take pictures with them. We were so lucky and were right behind the starting line so we got close ups and pictures! If you look closely at this picture you can see me with my pink sweatshirt and Alesa's long arms. :) The people in the bright yellow/green shirts were the "body guards" who ran right by the contestants the whole time.

Anita and Alesa took off right from the start, they stayed together about 1/2 way and even ran right by Sarah and got to visit with her a little bit.
Ahh, Sam, in black.
The Rocky Theme song happened to come on my shuffle just as I was going up the last hill- it gave me just the kick I needed to finish strong. Alesa and Anita finished more than 10 minutes ahead of me but they came back and met me and crossed with me. I started to get teary eyed as I turned the corner and saw them at the top of the hill, I'm so grateful for good friends!
Sam, Koli, Adam and Darus were at the finish line giving high 5's as we crossed. I didn't fully get to appreciate it because this is still such a challenge for me and I'm just grateful to cross that line! :) After we crossed Sam was taking pictures. Alesa and Anita had their picture taken with him and kept encouraging me to. I was hesitant, I thought it seemed kind of silly. But, they talked me into it. When I walked up to Sam he just gave me this CrAZy big hug! I was so surprised! But it was fun! He was so big (tall) and he just totally could wrap me up. Yes, I think I might be in love! :D Hee, hee!

Mic at 3 months

What a cutie he is! We love him so much. He's growing like a weed (15.6 pounds now), basically gaining an ounce per day. Wow! That adds up fast! I guess he has to catch up for all the weight he lost at first.

Funny thing about this sweater/outfit. I love it! Holly gave it to Mic for Christmas. It just seems so warm and perfect for winter. BUT I laugh everytime I put it on him because the first time Doug saw Mic in it he said; "He looks like he escaped from a knitting prison."

Mic's Blessing Day

I love a baby blessing day! It seems like a day that we get to celebrate our baby with the world!

On Sunday, March 6, 2011 Mic was blessed by his Dad. Uncle Justin, Uncle Travis, Grandpa Tim and our neighbor/Bishopric counselor Rigo Chaparro all stood in circle. We missed the rest of the men in our family! Mic was blessed to grow up strong and healthy. With the knowledge that he has a loving family. He was blessed with a love of the scriptures and gospel and to be able to hold the priesthood. Blessed to attend the temple and have a family of his own.

It was so fun to share one of the cutest babies in the world!

After we went to Grandma Meikle's where we ate this yummy spread of Crepes and fresh fruit. Yum! Yummy green punch.

Table centerpiece. Those little socks were what the kids picked out the day we found out we were having a boy and that bear was Mic's Christmas present from the girls.

This girl is the BEST big sister!

Cousin Regan, we love her! And you can tell Mic loved her too.

The Turner's (minus a few)

Grandma A & Tim

Thanks for sharing the day with us!

All of these pictures were taken by Alesa Larsen Photography. Aren't they great!

Tavaci

I know it seems like we've done nothing else but have a baby for the last 4 months. Although, that has taken a lot of our time, we've actually done a lot of other fun things. So, I am attempting to record some of those activities in these next few posts.

December 11th was the annual Tavaci Christmas concert. I always love these concerts, I love the music and the dancing but most of all I love watching my kids shine. This concert was the best one yet because not only were all three of the kids in it but Maddie had a "small group" part and Katie had a solo. I was a proud mama!

Maddie performed with about 10 other girls her age to S-A-N-T-A. What fun to watch her cheer for the "Big Guy"! She has so much energy and just enjoys everything she does!

Katie had a solo singing "Silver Bells". Silver Bells was my grandma Kathryn's favorite Christmas song so I was so excited to have my little Kathryn have the opportunity to sing it. She was amazing! I think her Great-grandma was probably just as proud and pleased as the rest of us were!

Can you see Katie in the middle back?

And since there is not much that brings me as much joy as Bevan, here is a picture of him. I still have people comment on how he stole the show. I'm not really sure that's such a great thing, but he WAS a lot of fun to watch. He knew most of the words and most of the dances and he never quit dancing, even if the music was just in his head! :)

Well, it happened

We tried so hard, but it happened. Mic caught a bug. Last Thursday (almost 5 weeks old) Mic was congested and a couple of times had coughed so hard that he threw up. I decided that I would call the Dr. because I didn't want to be up at 3:00 a.m. trying to decide if I should call the Dr. When I called the office the nurse said that if he was throwing up it was serious and he needed to be seen right away. Since it was 4:30 I had to run right in before they closed. Luckily all was well! Mic had just an upper respiratory thing going on. So happy! And here's the good news! He weighed 8lbs 12.5 ozs! Almost a normal baby for our family. That was a 9oz weight gain in 6 days. Wow!

Happy 1 month birthday!

I know, everyone says it, but I can't believe it's been a month already! Time flies when you're having fun. And boy have we had fun! We got home Christmas eve and it seems like things haven't slowed down since. But I've been trying hard to just enjoy every second with Mic. I know this time is fleeting and I'm so in love with this little guy.
It has been a hard time too. Mic was on the Bili bed longer than we hoped (like about a week) and even then his numbers went up. The Dr. felt like he would be ok so even with the increase in numbers we didn't have to put him back on the lights. After being home about a week and a half Mic lost almost 1 1/2 pounds (down to 7lbs). This was very stressful. The Dr. put him on a high calorie formula and told me I shouldn't nurse for a week. Neither Doug nor I felt good about this so we gave him the formula and I nursed every other feedi
ng. This was good because after watching him with the bottle we realized that he really wasn't eating- he was too sleepy. So, we forced him awake and would watch constantly to make sure he swallowed. Over the next couple of weeks he has gained 12.5 ozs bringing him to 7.12 ozs. Not to birth weight yet, but he's getting there. He still is oxygen, but as of last Fri. he is only on it at night. Hooray! That means that hopefully by our next Dr. visit on Thurs. he'll get to be off it completely!

The Dr. told us that is Mic gets RSV we'll be "toast". So far we've been very blessed even though many of the people around of have been very sick no one in our family has gotten sick. Mic doesn't leave our house much (today he had a big day - a trip to Lee's, Staples, Michael's, and Best Buy only the 2nd time in a store) and when someone comes in I question them about their health and so far it seems to be working. :) The Dr.'s office is trying hard to get Mic approved for the RSV shot- it costs $1500/shot and he'll need 4 of them so it's a big commitment for the insurance companies to make. Hopefully it will be approved soon. It won't keep him from getting RSV but it he gets it, it will be less severe...

Mic is very loved by his siblings! The girls are huge helps and want to change his diapers and get him dressed- it makes my life much easier! Doug has been laid off since Thanksgiving and I am quite spoiled with having him home to help so much!

Mic is an easy baby. He barely cries and if he is hungry he'll let us know and then just wait until we feed him. He's so patient with his brother and sister and he loves to take showers with Mom or Dad. We love having him in our family! The tough pregnancy was worth it!
