Bitter Sweet Evening

I just got a call from my mom tonight that my grandpa is in the hospital. He is 93 years old, and his poor, old body is just shutting down. He also has internal bleeding, which they don't know (at this point)where he is bleeding from (and he doesn't want anything done about it even if they did know). He is only expected to live 2-3 days at the most. My heart is so full right now. I have so many emotions right now. I am sad to see him go, but I am overcome with joy that he will no longer have to suffer. My grandma passed away 2 years ago and he has been so lonely since then. He is so independent, and has had to have so much help that it has been really hard for him to have to depend on so many other people. When my mom called, my sisters and I all made arrangements to go down to see him tonight. It was nice to be there as a family, but what made it hard, was he had just been brought upstairs to the room (my aunts brought him into the ER this afternoon and he had been down there up until just before we got there) and the doctors hadn't come in to do his "consult" with him yet(and my mom and her sisters)and so he had no clue what his prognosis was when they had us go in to see him (and we weren't going to say anything until the doctors did). So, my whole family, minus my brother that is on a mission, and Scott who was kind enough to stay home with the kids,(my mom, my dad, me, 5 sisters and one brother-in-law) went into this little room to visit with him for a few minutes, and he was confused as to why we were all down there to visit him, not knowing that we were all there to say our good-byes. So, we visited, gave him a hug, told him we loved him, and said "see ya later"...all while knowing that "later" would be much later....We all just kept saying that he wanted to go home for Christmas. He wants to spend it with my grandma, Diane (their daughter that passed away when she was 18 months old), and all their other loved ones. He will be greatly missed, but he is leaving behind many memories and a great legacy. We love you Grandpa!

40lb milestone

Well, I've hit my 40lb weight loss mark! The thing that sucks lately is that we have been so sick here at our house for the last 2 months, that it seems like I can never exercise anymore, because I feel like crap all the time! I get sick with a bad cold, finally get over it, am able to exercise for 2-3 days, then come down with another one! Oh well! Such is life with 2 kids in nursery and one in 1st grade! For those that have asked, I haven't been "dieting" or anything. I have just been more aware of what I am eating, trying to eat better, and just focusing more on portion control. I love sweets and have a huge sweet tooth, so I wanted to figure out some way that I could still eat my sweets (within reason), but try to eat better, and smaller portions. I have increased my exercise as well (obviously). I have been running/walking on my treadmill, doing 10min trainer/Turbo Jam videos, playing volleyball and just whatever else I can do to get my rear end moving! It has been a long process, but I am trying to do it in a way that it will fit my lifestyle and so I won't gain it all back as soon as I go off of the "diets" or whatever. The bad thing about it now is that NOTHING fits! Everything is too big, but I'm not quite sure I'm ready to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe until I know I am going to kind of "plateau" with the weight loss. I am excited though, I only have about 15 more pounds to go til I'm at the weight I was when we got married!! Here's to that last 15lbs!

McKenzie's first top tooth gone!

Monday night, McKenzie lost her first top tooth! The best part about it was she pulled it out ALL ON HER OWN! I have had to pull out at least 2 of the 3 teeth she's lost (well, now 4) and I can't remember if Scott or I pulled out the other one, and can I just say, I hate pulling out teeth! Oh the joys of getting in the big, awkward looking permanent teeth! She's lost 3 on the bottom, but only 2 have come in, and I have no clue where that 3rd tooth is going to fit when it grows in! I am terrified my kids teeth are going to come way crooked! Here's to hoping they will have my straight teeth!

Halloween

Sadly...this was the best picture I got of all 3 kids together this year! Oh well. They had a ball...even in the rain!

Lexie was Tinkerbell (in a pink fairy outfit). Lexie was really wanting to be Peter Pan (she loves Peter Pan) but my Peter Pan costume was WAY too big for her, so she decided on Tinkerbell...but our real Tinkerbell costume was too big for her, so we just used the fairy dress up she got for her birthday! She was hilarious! You would ask her anything (like if she was hungry, or ready to go out trick-or-treating or whatever), and she would always respond "No, I'm tinkerbell." Good thing she didn't quite realize that tinkerbell has a green outfit and hers was pink!McKenzie was a purple butterfly fairy (she was DEAD set on this costume and the only size they had was a 10-12...at least she can use it for a couple of years)
Brayden was Bumblebee (from Transformers)

Let the season begin.....

Flu season that is. Brayden came down with a pretty nasty cold last Sunday (sore throat, runny nose and COUGHING galore) and so he (and I...Scott was in Las Vegas for work) didn't get ANY sleep because he was coughing so much/hard he would throw up. Then, Monday night(technically Tues morning), Lexie woke up at 1:00am throwing up. Brayden continued to feel miserable with his cold and couldn't sleep because he was coughing so much. Brayden started throwing up on Thursday night (Friday morning) at like 2:00am, then McKenzie started Friday night at about 11:00, and Scott is rounding things off by getting sick this afternoon. They would throw up for a couple of hours, then slowly be able to keep food down. Well, Brayden was throwing up all night and was able to keep food down by Friday mid morning. Friday he acted pretty weak, but could keep food down. He acted just fine by Sat, and spent the day outside helping Scott get some things down out there. Then randomly, last night (Sat night...well, Sunday morning) at like 2:00 am, he threw up again, then was just fine the rest of the night. He was just fine all day, eating normal food, acting just fine, then again, about 6:00 tonight, he threw up, but said his stomach didn't hurt and was still acting just fine. I don't get it! Here's to hoping none of the other kids start up again! So as a consequence, I have not slept in 6 of the last 7 nights, and only spent Wednesday night in my own bed. Also, Brayden shared his cold with Scott and I as well! How nice of him! My white flag is up....I surrender! I'm so done...and it's only October.

Stupid ankle....

I need a new ankle! 5 weeks ago, I rolled my ankle at volleyball, and it is still hurting! It is getting better, but the process is EXTREMELY SLOW! It doesn't hurt too bad (anymore) to just walk or go up and down stairs, but I still can't bend and flex my ankle all the way without pain. I still can't exercise at the level I would like to do. I was able to run 2 consecutive days this week for the first time since it happened (the last 2 weeks or so I have only been able to run one day, but then it hurts too bad for a day or two afterwards that I just have to crank up the incline on the treadmill and walk). But the thing that sucks, is that with not being able to run or exercise consistently for so long (and probably at least another couple weeks), it is going to take a while to build back up to where I was (endurance wise) before I got hurt. It just sucks because not only can't I run, but it limits what I can do in volleyball (I play in a league on Thurs nights). I have to be very careful how I land when I jump or even going after a ball because it will hurt pretty bad if I twist my body just right on even run after a ball and stop too suddenly (and yes, I wear a brace to run and play volleyball in). In my opinion....shouldn't the swelling be gone after 5 weeks? Stupid ankle! I'm ready for a new one!

Fall Harvest

This fall, we have been busy, busy, busy! We did a garden for the first time this year (our old house never really had anywhere that would have been good, and last summer, we were doing all of our ripping up the north side of the backyard, pouring concrete, building a shed, laying sod, and building the garden space). This year we just did tomatoes, zucchini, summer squash and peppers (but we didn't get the kind Scott wanted). Our garden has been AWESOME! We have had tomatoes and zucchini coming out of our ears! I have NO clue how many bags of frozen shredded zucchini I have in my freezer, on top of the MANY loaves of zucchini bread and zucchini cake I have made! As for our tomatoes, we have eaten TONS and loved every minute of it! They have also helped make salsa, and we have bottled 24 pints so far, with MANY more to come! We also went down to Scott's grandparents house and picked pears. We brought home TONS and ended up bottling 62 quarts (14 quarts one evening, and 48 another evening because they had ALL ripened at the same time!) I did peaches last year, and only have 3 more quarts left, but they are so blasted expensive and from some of the people I have talked to, they haven't been very good this year (really wormy and not a good taste) so I don't think I am going to do any peaches. I am so glad I have grown up with a mom who has shown me how to bottle and preserve food, and continues to help whenever I have questions! Scott has been awesome! He helped with ALL of the pears and tomatoes, and would have helped with the salsa, but my mom and I did that while he was at work. It is so nice to have my storage room stocked up again between all of the canning and stocking up on the case lot sales (and still having stuff from the dry pack cannery)! Nothing like seeing shelves full of food!

Labor Day at the Lake

(McKenzie on the Alligator, Lexie playing with my sister Tiffany, and Brayden watching)

On Labor Day, my family decided to go down to Yuba Lake for the day. It has been forever since we've been down there so it sounded great! My sister and brother-in-law brought down their boat, we took down our 4-wheeler (There are ATV trails all over the place), and my parents brought down tons of food and beach toys. It was so nice because this lake, you just pull your vehicle, RV, Trailer, whatever you have, right up to the shore line! There is no parking lot, so it was nice having the 4-wheelers and car just right there on the beach! I was a little nervous because it was supposed to be cold that day, but it was PERFECT weather on the beach. It did get a little cold while you were on the boat, if you were wet, but we just put long sleeve shirts on the kids (under their life vests, but over their swim suits) and they were just perfect! The kids LOVED the boat and playing on the beach! We were there for just over 8 hours and they played hard the whole entire time! The kids even went tubing behind the boat! My sister Stacy was with McKenzie and Scott was with Brayden and both tubes even flipped and the kids went in the lake (they both hate getting their faces wet and hate swimming in water deeper than their knees), but they did great! Scott learned how to wake surf and did awesome!! Unfortunately, I didn't take my camera out on the boat, so I don't have any pictures of the kids tubing or Scott wake surfing! The only pictures I have were from the shore, and since Brayden and McKenzie were out on the boat for most of the time, they aren't in too many pictures! Hopefully someone else in my family took more pictures on the boat! It was a great day and like I said before, the kids were in HEAVEN!!! They were so content to just sit and play in the water and on the beach. They had to ride on the boat every time a group went out!

Scott on the tube, as they were coming back to the shore

Our lovely "suncreen job" Ooops! At least it was only her face that got sunburned!

My Baby's 2!!!

My sweet baby turned 2 yesterday! I can't believe how fast she is turning into a little "person" and not my baby anymore! Lexie loves Buzz Lightyear and Woody, and Peter Pan! She loves dressing up, playing barbies, is starting to really enjoy reading books, and LOVES her blanket and stuffed giraffe. She speaks really well, she LOVES to sing, she can count to 15, is learning her colors and ABC's, she loves to tease her brother and sister, throw temper tantrums and she loves shoes! She wants to do everything her brother and sister do and she loves sleeping in her "big girl bed". She is by far my most cuddly child and we absolutely love that! She loves giving hugs and kisses, will come up to me and ask to be held and will just rest her head on my shoulder! It is no nice! We love you Lexie!
She had her 2 year well check up today and her stats are:
Weight: 23 lbs 6 oz (15 %)
Height:34 1/4 in. (70%)
Head Circumference: 18 1/4 in (20 %)

Soccer players

This year we signed Brayden and McKenzie up for soccer. They are loving it! They both had their first games last week and McKenzie even scored 2 goals! She is really picking it up and to be honest, I was really surprised at how well she is doing with it being her first year! She's a natural!

Brayden LOVES playing! He wears his shin guards and cleats and brings his ball to McKenzie's practices, games and just to go play outside! His first game took some coaxing. He was really shy/clingy at first and I had to go out with him to try to get him to go after the ball (I think it was because of the crowds and the late night the night before), but after half time he got right into it and had a ball......until he and some other kid crashed into each other and hit heads. He loved it though! The huge smile on his face while he is playing is priceless!

My 1st Grader

Last Monday, McKenzie started 1st grade! I can't believe how fast time is flying by! She LOVES going to school and just today told me how first grade is so much better than Kindergarten! She has a great teacher that is very strict and really pushes the kids, but I am so excited McKenzie has her and I think it will be so great for her! McKenzie really likes her too! She loves eating lunch at school (whether it is school lunch or home lunch) and she has adjusted better than I thought she would to being gone all day long!! I also get to see her in action (how she acts during school) because I get to go up every Monday morning and help with the "guided reading groups" and so I am very excited for that!

Happy Birthday to my sweet McKenzie

This last Tuesday was my sweet McKenzie's 6th Birthday! I can't believe how fast these last 6 years have gone! She got to celebrate for days this year and was exhausted when we were finally done! She started out with her friend party last Saturday. She wanted to have a water party, so we pulled out the pools and the slip and slide and let the kids have at it! We also had water balloons, BBQ'ed hot dogs, had a pinata and cake and ice cream! The kids had a ball!! Then, a couple of hours after the kids were gone from the party, we packed McKenzie up and went out to Scott's parents house! McKenzie got to spend the weekend with his family, having one last sleepover before School starts next Monday! She went to church with his family and loved being sung to in Primary, made pinkalicious cupcakes (it is from a really cute book called "Pinkalicious") and spent Monday shopping and going to lunch with Grandma! Scott's mom took her to Build-a-Bear and she made a little bunny named LuLu and she just LOVES it! Then Monday night, Scott's family brought her back up and we had a little family party with both of our families! Tuesday, her actual birthday, we had a real low key day, which was good because she was exhausted from her sleepover! We went and got treats to take to her first soccer practice, then went shopping to get something with a gift card she received. She spent the afternoon playing with her new things and just relaxing. Then when Scott got home, we let her open the rest of her presents, and we went to dinner, which of course she got to choose where to go, so off we went to Carl's Jr (they love that "play place") and then afterwards, it was off to her first soccer practice! Then last night we took the kids to their first demolition derby! She even lost 2 teeth this week as well! She lost one on Monday afternoon and the second one tonight! We love her so much and are so glad she is part of our family! She is so excited to start 1st grade on Monday and even eat lunch at school! She is such a good sister to her brother and sister and we love her so much!

Wyoming

We just got home from a wonderful week in Wyoming! We are exhausted, but the kids had SO much fun! They didn't want to come home and kept asking if we could stay there longer! They LOVED being up there, and let's be honest, what's not to love! Scott's grandpa (his mom's father) was a cattle rancher and had a large ranch up in Wyoming that he would take his cattle to in the summer months. All growing up, Scott would spend a good portion of his summers at the ranch with his grandparents and so it has a lot of special memories for him. The property is now Scott's uncles (since his grandpa passed away last year) and they were kind enough to let us (Scott's parents, sister, and our family) go up for a week and do their work for them! The scenery is breathtaking, the temperatures are perfect and it was very relaxing! We spent TONS of time riding the 4-wheelers, whether it was heading out to change the water, or just going on rides! The kids even mastered Scott's parents little 4-wheeler and by the week's end were even driving our big 4-wheelers when we went out to change the water (we were sitting there with them, but they were controlling the throttle and most of the steering....even through all the mud, ditches, over rocks, you name it! They were awesome!) We ate our little hearts out, had a Hearts (the card game) tourney going on at night...which I won by the way, and just enjoyed being together! You could not keep the kids indoors! They loved being outside, whether it was swinging, playing with the dogs, riding grandma & grandpa's little 4-wheeler, or just exploring! Here are some of our pictures, but they don't even begin to do it justice!

milestone

Well, the hard work has been paying off! I hit the 25lb. weight loss mark! It has been a lot of hard work, especially doing it all here at home, on my own, with 3 kids that are ALWAYS asking for something/fighting/just being kids while I am on my treadmill, but it is working, so I'll keep doing it! Here's to another 25 lbs!

8th Anniversary

(Picture taken in 2004 in Hawaii...when I was 6 months pregnant with McKenzie)

Yesterday we got to celebrate our 8th Anniversary! Scott is an amazing person, husband, and father, and I have honestly loved the last 8 years! Our marriage isn't perfect, but we VERY rarely argue or even disagree (I can count the times on one hand), and it has been an amazing time learning and growing together as a couple, as parents, and as best friends! He is such a hard worker and ALWAYS gives 120% at everything he does, which is why he is where he is today! He is not content with anything but his best effort. He is stubborn, and if he doesn't know something for work or anything else, he WILL figure it out, and won't be satisfied until he figures it out! I am so grateful that he has worked SO hard to provide for our family, which has allowed me to be able to have a wonderful home, drive awesome cars, have food on our plates, clothes in our closets, bills paid, and most importantly, it has allowed me the chance to stay home with our kids and focus on raising and teaching them! He is a "jack of all trades" which is so nice! He works with computers for a living, works on cars as a hobby, and fixes everything around the house from our gas fireplace (that the previous owner of the house had problems with and had people out to look at it and it still wasn't fixed right...until Scott looked at it) to fixing our furnace, to doing electrical work (our garage only had ONE outlet, and one light with one lightbulb in the whole garage, so he and his dad added lights, breaker boxes, outlets, a motion sensor light on the side of the house for the trailer...you name it, they did it). Every time I ask Scott what he wants, whether it is to eat, to watch, to do, anything, it is always "whatever you want!" He is so good to me and our children and is always showing us how much he loves us! I'm so glad he's mine!!!!

New Beds

Brayden has been in his "toddler bed" and has pretty much outgrown it, so we decided it was time for a bigger bed! We decided to get the girls bunk beds and then we put the twin bed that McKenzie was sleeping on into Brayden's room. We spent the day taking down and moving old beds, building the bunk beds, shopping for bedding, and cleaning up our mess! Now I just need to find different curtains for both rooms! It was a busy day, but the kids LOVE their new beds! Brayden thinks he's pretty hot stuff in his new "tall" bed, McKenzie thinks she's pretty cool to be sleeping on the top bunk, and Lexie, well, here's to hoping she doesn't fall out of bed since she is straight out of the crib! My babies are growing up so fast!

Ear Piercings....and Lagoon

McKenzie's been asking me for a long time if she could get her ears pierced, but if you know McKenzie very well, you also know she is a little prone to being dramatic when it comes to pain, so once she found out it would hurt, she didn't want them done because she was scared of it hurting. I told her not to worry about it, and that she could get it done whenever she was ready. Out of the blue Saturday morning, she was eating her cereal and asked if we could go get her ears pierced that day! I asked if she was sure, and reminded her it would hurt pretty bad, and she said she knew it would hurt, but she would be brave. It was cute because she asked if it was okay if she cried because she thought she might cry, but only for a minute or so. So, off we went! She did really well! Unfortunately, they only had one worker, so they had to do one ear, then the other one (and not two workers, each doing one ear at the same time). She cried after the first one, but she was brave and held still for the second one and only cried for a minute or so after it was done. We also decided to do Lexie too! Don't ask me why, I have no clue! It was totally spur of the moment. I NEVER thought I would have pierced my kids ears that young, but we did and she looks adorable! She just doesn't like me having to clean them 3-4 times a day! It is going to be a long 6 weeks!

I don't have a good picture of Lexie's, but you get the picture from this shot! It is so cute!

We've been enjoying our Lagoon season passes, and have already gone a bunch! The kids love it. Brayden's favorite ride BY FAR is the bumper cars. He would ride that ride for HOURS if we would let him. McKenzie is surprising us and is a maniac! She LOVES the white roller coaster, tidal wave, the "big people" swings, scrambler, Lady bug drop, the log ride, you get the picture...all of the big people rides! Scott and I are realizing rather quickly that our stomachs just aren't quite what they used to be as we have to take turns taking her on the rides!

Look who lost a tooth

Man...I am starting to feel old!

"mom, take a silly one for Grandma!" So here you go Grandma!
