Brock's improv group (Mahogany) applied to perform at the famous Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre Festival in NY and they got in. The group has been together for less than a year and they were really excited! Team Mahogany performed on the second day of the festival, and managed to get a good time slot being the teams first year at 4:30 pm. A lot of people Brock knew weren’t performing until 3 am or later. Here is Brock's take on the festival and some of the pictures.
Del Close is considered one of the premier influences on modern improvisational theater. He trained Bill Murray, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, Chris Farley, and countless others who have become comedy legends.
Every year since Del Close’s death in 1999 the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre holds a improv festival in his honor. This was the 12th Del Close Marathon.
For 3 days with teams throughout the world perform 24 hrs. a day. There were 150 teams this year mostly coming from LA, New York, and Chicago, but there were teams from England, and Australia.
The performance went really well. We performed in front of a packed house. Then just hung out and caught some shows of friends, and saw some of the other groups from around the country. The cool with the marathon was making new friends and getting to see people you look up to perform only a few feet away from you. The theatre rented out a vacant lounge were the performers could go during the day to eat, drink, and mingle. Everyone was really down to earth.
