Thanksgiving Activities

And the Winner for the best tasting pie is..........Kim for her Banoffee.  She was really excited, dancing all around, throwing fists up into the air, showing all of us her superiority in pie making for 2011!  Lacee won the best presentation, her pie looked like it was store bought it was so perfect.  They both recieved not only the honor for the whole next year, but Brion, in his good sense, purchased pie spatulas and had them engraved "Best Taste 2011" and "Best Presentation 2011".  The competition was fearce this year with a total of 10 pies (7 adults, 3 kids).  The kids were separate and I might say just as tasty.  Emmie and the girls made a pink, (yes, I said pink), banana split pie (most creative in kids division), Dax and East with a Snickers pie (best tasting in kids division) and Logan and Landon with a peach pie (best presentation kids division).  Amanda for her first year did a tasty berry pie (it was my mom's favorite), she came in 2nd I think.  Because Jarom has the most letters following his name, i.e. CPA, MBA, was chosen to add up the scores, and even then some accused him of cookin' the books in his favor.  He announced everyones points starting with last place......poor Nick, I tried to talk him out of his "Super Sweet Potato Pie", but alas, he wouldn't listen.  Actually, he didn't feel too bad as he won for best taste last year with his "Double Threat Coconut Cream Pie".
We did our usual traditions of gingerbread houses, football game on the side lawn, football on TV, and new this year was the food for the food bank.  We asked each family to do a FHE on the blessings we have of enough food on our tables and each family took their kids in their pantry and had them pick out food they wanted to give to the food bank here in Tooele.  We had a full, and I mean full, huge box!  It is amazing how sensitive and compassionate kids can be.  Enjoy the pictures!

Here is my dear, dear mother.  She is 90 years old.  She wouldn't go in and take a nap on the bed because she was afraid she would miss something, so I covered her with a blanket and off to sleep she went.  She is an amazing woman!

Blessed Day

So, here it is three o'clock in the morning and I am awake. Yesterday, June 7th, was Brett and Amanda's wedding. It was one of the most wonderful days for Nick and I. While sitting in the sealing room, I looked around and there sat all of our children. My heart was overflowing with gratitude! All of us in the temple together. I felt like the Lord was just pouring out His blessings to Nick and I at that moment. Did the two of us, 35 years ago this month, understand what the future could hold? We didn't know life could be so sweet!

President Blackburn, Brett's mission president, sealed them. He said some absolutely wonderful things to them. We are so appreciative to him and Sister Blackburn for being there. They mean so much to Brett.

After the temple we celebrated with a wonderful luncheon at Thanksgiving Point in the Garden Room. They made it so special for the couple. Amanda had a "fairy godmother" that was there to assist her and any of the wedding party with anything needed. They had set up a little room just for the bride and groom with pastries, juice and a tile that had "Webb Family Established June 7, 2011." We had a captain of the food who came out every so often to see if we needed anything. I tell you, they made it so nice, we didn't have to worry about a thing, which made the day less stressful.

All of our grandchildren were there, the girls all in the same dresses, and the boys all in green ties. It gave Nick and I so much joy to watch them interact with Brett and Amanda, as well as to each other.

The gardens were beautiful, the sun was shining and we rented a golf cart to drive around the gardens for pictures. Our grand-niece was our photographer. This was her first wedding photo shoot. She was very patient and so kind. She must have taken hundreds of pictures. She is graduating in photography next year and we are thankful she agreed to take them.

Yesterday was one of those days that will forever be in my heart. I am thankful for a kind and loving Heavenly Father that blessed us with such a perfect day!

Happening of Late

I took this picture about 3 weeks ago when I was going to my service mission in the Membership Department. I walked through the main street plaza, and it was so beautiful with the sun shining.

This is a picture from Main Street Plaza looking at the Conference Center

Now for the good stuff! Spring brings lots of sports and we love to watch our grandkids play. It is very difficult to get down to Utah County, but we really try to make at least one game per child during the season. The Grantsville grandkids are easier to get too. Here is Logan. He really makes a lot of goals for his team. I don't know what his team would do without him.

Here is Landon. He made his first goal while we were watching! He loves to play goalee and is really good at it.

Allie is an awesome soccer player. She really gets in there. She had two or three assists when we were watching her. She is a go-getter. She is in the back on the left.

This was a cute picture. Easton and his cousin Treston were sitting in a chair and looked up. I couldn't resist taking the picture.

Here is Dax. He loves, absolutely loves, baseball. He plays either 2nd or short stop, and he can hit the ball.

Scott was the coach for Dax's team this year. He was so good with the boys. He has taught them to love the game of baseball, and the fundimentals of the game.

It has been pretty busy lately, with mother's 90th birthday in April (hopefully pictures to come forth) and the up coming wedding of Brett and Amanda. Lots of exciting things happening in the Webb household!

Easter Saturday 2011

Traditions are always fun. This has been a tradition in the Chatfield family for decades! We color eggs and then find a big hill and roll them down. The winner is determined by how far the yolk rolls. I don't know who won, and it doesn't matter because we had a blast! The little kids were running up and down the hill, while Nick and I SLOWLY and CAREFULLY climbed up and then back down. Here are some pictures: Here are some of the boys running, and I mean running, up the hill. Here we are ready for the contest.

There goes Logan

There goes Clay.

Even little Lexie threw eggs, and I don't know how she did it, but I think one of hers went the farthest. We had about 4 dozen eggs!

After that we went back home for a barbeque and a candy easter egg hunt out back. It was really, really fun!

Chickens

We have had a couple of experiences with chickens lately. Last Friday was our grandson's kindergarten program. They did the chicken dance and when it was over, each kindergartener asked a guest to do the chicken dance with them. Well, Dax asked me and I was thrilled. The song that you are hearing is the very song that Dax and I danced too. We made pretty good chickens if I do say so myself, with wiggling our arms and hips, it was a real work-out! The next day we went to IFA for some seed potatoes and we saw these little chicks. They are hungry little things aren't they? The only problem with them is they grow up to be chickens and aren't as cute as they are as chicks.

The above are turkeys. Yes, you can raise turkeys for that delicious turkey dinner in November. I personally wouldn't want to raise one, but I guess some do.
Now this little fellow is a duck. When I showed this picture to East, he said, "my dad shoots ducks." Which is true, during duck season. Hopefully, this little one will go to a good home.

Now for my story. It is a true story, yes, every word of it! When Kim and Brett were young Nick decided we should buy some little chicks that would grow up to be laying hens. This would be a good project for them and teach them to take care of animals. (BTW, we already had a dog and a cat, but who am I to question the wisdom of a wanna be farmer). Anyway, we had 10 little chicks in the basement, yes, I said the basement, under lights because they can't get cold. When they started to grow white feathers, it was time to put them outside. Nick cut a small hole in the side of our shed and put chicken wire around so the chickens could get fresh air. We waited and waited, but no eggs. I felt like Lucy and Ethel on the I Love Lucy episode where they have laying hens. One day, Brett and one of his friends went out in the shed and found two shirt fulls of eggs hidden all over the shed. I guess it would have helped if the chickens had a roosting place to lay their eggs, but alas, we were new to this. Next, one of the chickens was actually a rooster. A mean, mean rooster. Everytime Kim and Brett went out to feed the chickens, the rooster would come at them. They told Nick and so being the wonderful, patient father he is, went out to show them how to deal with the rooster. He opened the door, stepped in and the rooster attacked. Well, Nick picked up that rooster and dropped kicked it. It hit the wall, fell and broke his leg. We certainly had a humble rooster after that. The chicken experiment didn't last long because one by one the chickens were disappearing and we couldn't find out why until one day Nick saw the neighbors cat eating one! That did it. We abruptly got out of the chicken business, much to the relief of Kim and Brett. So, folks, that is our experience with chickens. So as Nick and I looked and thought how cute those little chicks were at IFA, we were not tempted at all to buy any! Thank goodness!
