Merry Christmas!

Christmas this year has been awesome! Hanging out at home always has its memorable moments. Here are some of my favorite highlights from this Christmas break...

1. My family is really into card games, and we had some serious Hearts going all week long. In one game, I finally shot the moon! I think that has been my goal in Hearts for like, years.

2. Santa brought our entire family "Hulk Hands". Sounds wierd, I know, but they are a lot of fun. Hulk Hands are very large, green, boxing gloves that resemble, well, The Incredible Hulk's own hands. The best part is, when you hit somebody, the hands say horribly intimidating things in the voice of Hulk himself! Needless to say, my family was entertained for hours...

3. Cleveland Cavaliers!! My dad and I got to go to the Cavs game on Tuesday night!! It was pretty sweet to see Lebron James dominate against the Houston Rockets. It really is sad that I forgot my camera... :(

4. It's our family tradition to have snacks on Christmas Eve. We snack, then snack some more.

5. Being with the family. We were almost all together, except for my brother and sister-in-law who spent Christmas with her family this year (But don't you worry, Santa made sure they got their Hulk Hands as well). But I sure do love my family. As is evidenced by my pictures, they just make me happy.

Flying Home to Cleveland...

Christmas break is here! I flew home to Cleveland last week, and that was a crazy trip! It just so happened that the weather was absolutely horrid on Friday. By horrid, I mean sudden blizzards about twenty minutes after boarding our plane. It doesn't take much experience to know that planes + blizzards = painfully long delays. True to form, the captain of our plane detained me against my will for quite some time. My fellow passengers and I ended up sitting on the airplane for just under four hours! We did have a small half hour break where they let us off the plane to get lunch. Luckily, once we re-boarded, it wasn't too long before we took off.

By all accounts, the trip home should have been horrible...but nothing could overshadow how happy I was to be going home! Not to mention, while I was waiting for my dad to pick me up, I kept myself thoroughly entertained in the airport by taking loads pictures of...well...me.

I tried to justify the many photos of myself by the fact that the Akron airport was nearly deserted. I had nobody else to photograph, right?

My spirits were also quite high because of the recent purchase of my new rain boots! I also photographed them while waiting to be picked up. Fascinating, those rain boots.

Gingerbread Houses!

Yikes, so I haven't updated this in a while...sorry! Hopefully when I get a working computer, my posts will be much more frequent. :)

So, this past weekend I officially began celebrating the Christmas season by making my first gingerbread house of the year. My friends had loads of people over on Friday night for food, movies, and tons of gingerbread festivities (well, we actually used graham crackers instead of gingerbread...).

Brent suggested that we make a football stadium instead of a house, which was a brilliant idea! So, with his unexplainable obsession with the Utah Utes, combined with my unexplainable creative talent with small foods, we made what might be the first ever graham cracker version of Rice Eccles Stadium! Notice the red and blue M&M's...yes, the Utes vs. the Cougs...


Here we are, making our edible stadium! I tested it later...definitely edible...


And here is the entire graham cracker city...all of our creations combined. Our city had a skyscraper, a boardwalk, a beach house, the Tower Bridge (yes, the one from London), and even a couple of palm trees!

Christmas is coming, and I can't wait! :)

Halloween!

So, I did actually decide to dress up for Halloween...well, sort of. My roomates and I had to come up with a quick costume idea for a church party on Friday night. Thanks to a friend's ingenious suggestion, we decided to be "Mad Gab" cards. For all of the world who hasn't played the game Mad Gab, I don't really want to explain it now...the only relevant piece of information that you need to know is that many long minutes were spent thinking up the phrases on our shirts, and many long hours were spent ironing on each phrase letter by letter...(Actually, my roomates did all the hard work because I was in class Friday night...oops...)

Needless to say, halloween was a blast. It involved crazy costumes (including one very impressive version of Marge Simpson...) and quite the dance party. I am always up for a dance party. Did I mention that I am always up for a dance party?

Raise your hand if you are a new blogger...

Hello world! Yes, this is Carolyn Quebe...and yes, I am finally trying to join the ranks of happy bloggers across the world. I think blogging is wonderful, but I am less effective when it comes to technology (A sad example...I only joined facebook in March...I have yet to upload, download??, any pictures). So, this is me attempting to start my own blog. I am excited about the prospect of eventually having one of those cute blogs that random people check daily...I can only hope that other people will find my life, and my blogging skills, that interesting!

I want to explain my reasons for starting my own blog. As I mentioned before, I am not the best with technology. Actually, communication in general is not one of my finer talents in life. I recently came to the realization that blogs are an absolutely brilliant way to stay updated on my friends' lives. It is very difficult for me to constanlty call, e-mail, or even facebook, my friends and family. This has nothing to do with a lack of desire to stay in touch, nor is it a reflection of the extent of my love for the people in my life. Communication is simply something with which I will always struggle...

With these thoughts in mind, I now express my excitement for creating this blog! Not only do I want to record events for my own sake, but also so my friends and family (and I suppose randoms as well) can stay updated on what amazing turns my life has taken, and will take in the future.
