owie (how do you even spell that word?)

I used to LOVE hearing about all of the oh-my-gosh-you-did-NOT-just-say-that-to-the-lady-in-the-store comments that my nieces and nephews used to make! They were the best and always made my day! You know, things like:

"Grandma, look at that fat man!"
"Hunchback! Hunchback!"
"Mom, why is that mean man looking at me?"
"What's on your face?"

Sure, they aren't the nicest things to say to someone. But you could get away with a giggle or two (or three or four) because you could blame it on the innocence of youth. Right?

WELL, it's a whole new ball game when it's my own child making those comments.

Still hilarious? YES!

But along with the LAUGH you sometimes can't hold back is the feeling of mortification (is that even a word?) and the desire to SOOOOO want to take back what was said! Aaaaahhhhh!!! Here are a few lovely comments Jackson has made just in the last week:

#1
Jackson and I were at the laundry room yesterday. (The thing I DON'T love about living here in an apartment!) Another Mom and her daughter were in there too and Jackson was being so friendly to the little girl. He was waving (sometimes right in her face) and saying "hi". He was even telling her that his name was "Jackson-Boy", and he was getting NO response from the little girl. Nothing at all. So, he decided to turn his attention to the Mom. Uh-oh. He looked up at her, said "hi" and then immediately turned to me and said: "Look Mama, she needs a haircut!"

#2
Jackson LOVES going to the library here. We go to "Story Time" and "Play to Learn" every week. We have so much fun there! Jackson gets to meet a lot of who he calls his "new friends" and then because HE is such a social little guy, I end up having (I mean getting, yes, getting) to talk to the other Mom's too. So. Jack was playing with the puzzles with this little girl and her Mom came over to get her so they could leave. Jackson IMMEDIATELY pointed at the Mom's face and with a totally-grossed-out look on his face, said: "Eewww, Mama, that girl ..." and then he kind of shrunk back from her and said: "... her nose." So I say: "Yep, she has a ring in her nose. Isn't that cool?" Jack just nodded his head with that disgusted look still on his face.

#3
One of Jackson's favorite things to do with his Daddy is going to the gas station and buying a "blue drink". Jackson loves them and asks for them all the time. Shawn occasionally tells him that if he's a good boy for his Mama that he'll take him after work. It's totally their BONDING time! Shawn holds the door open for Jack and then just follows him around. He knows exactly where to go to get his Oreo's, his blue drink, and his sucker. (YES, we know it's a total sugar high! What's wrong with that? We don't do it every day. Just 5 days of the week is all. Hee hee!) Ok, so they went just a couple days ago and Shawn came home and told me this story. I was DYING laughing!!! Let me give you a visual. The guy working at the gas station that night was wearing a head wrap, had a big mustache and beard, and a huge mole on the side of his nose. This is what went down when they got up to the cashier guy ...
Jackson (pointing at the guy): "Look, Dad, that guy has owie on his nose."
Guy: "What did you say?"
Shawn: "He thinks you have an owie on your nose."
Guy (pointing to his mole): "Yeah, I have an owie." (Then to Shawn): "He is very observant."
Shawn (trying to distract Jackson from the owie): "Check out his beard!"
Guy: "Yeah, I have a beard and a mustache."
Jackson: "Yes, and he has owie on his nose."

Hahahahahahahaha!!!!! #3 will make me laugh for DAYS!!!! :)

for julie

I got an e-mail from my sister, Julie, today and she told me she was missing Jackson and that I needed to blog about all the funny things he is doing and saying lately. Well, Julie, he is missing you too! (We all are!) And he's doing and saying A LOT of funny things these days! I hope I never forget MOST of the things he does, so I better hurry and blog about it, right?!

So, this one's for you, my Sista! I hope it makes you laugh!!

Let's start out with some CHURCH-Y stories! Jackson got this beautiful picture from his great-great aunts, MaryLee and Joyce, for Christmas. (By the way, how COOL is it that not only are his great-great aunts still alive, but that he actually sees them occasionally and KNOWS who they are?!)

Isn't it a beautiful picture? It is hanging on his bedroom wall. A couple weeks ago I was out running errands and when I got home Shawn told me that he had been sitting on Jackson's bed with him and that Jackson looked up at the picture and said: "That's Jesus." Shawn probably said something like: "Yep, it is." :) Then Jackson, pointing to himself, said: "Jesus loves me", then pointing to kids in the picture, he said: "Those kids love me too." HOW CUTE IS THAT????? I love that story!

We've been working with Jackson on potty training for a while now. (That could be it's own little post but I'll hold off on that ... for now!) About the first or second week we were here in our new WA ward, this is the conversation that I'm sure many people around us heard:
Jackson: "I need to go pooooooo."
Shawn: "Ok, let's go."
Jackson (as they get to the door, and very loudly): "Do you need to go poo too, Daddy?"
Hahahahahahahaha!!!!

Jackson still loves nursery! He totally looks forward to it. It's so great! He knows the actions to so many primary songs. Even tonight at dinner he all of a sudden started singing "the wise man built his house upon the rock" and he pounded his fist to his hand! So cute! And sometimes we'll sing a new song to him and he'll say: "Mama, that's my song from nursery!" We just love that he is learning so much and that he loves his nursery class.

Ok, that's it for the church-y stuff! But I have a few more things to write about ...

Has everyone already seen that cute movie, "Ramona and Beezus"?

If you haven't seen it yet you need to stop reading this right NOW and go watch that movie! I mean it! Especially you, Julie! Your girls will LOVE it! And you and Chris will like it too. I promise. I thought it was going to be a cheesy movie but it is absolutely adorable! Jackson picked it out at the library one day so we checked it out and I'm so glad I did! It's a really cute movie with a great message. Jackson wanted to watch it over and over and over! I was kind of surprised that he liked the movie so much. But then it all became clear to me one night as we were eating dinner. Jackson was talking about the movie ... again ... and telling Shawn that he wanted to watch "Ramona". Shawn said: "You like Ramona hu, Jackson? She's your girlfriend." At this point I am just smiling and thinking to myself how Jackson doesn't even know what it means to have a girlfriend, thank goodness, right? NOT right. Because the next words out of his cute little mouth were: "Yeah, Mom, I wanna watch Ramona and Beezus. She's my girlfriend ... I love her, Mom." And he had THE CUTEST look on his face while he said it. He almost looked a little love-sick. Shawn and I were dying! I mean, since when does MY-little-almost-3-year-old-baby-boy love any girl other than his Mama??????? Since "Ramona and Beezus", I guess. Can you blame him? I mean, really. Look at her.

She's adorable!

When we moved here to Washington and unpacked our boxes I felt pretty good about the fact that we weren't missing anything. That is until our first Sunday, when I went to get my slip and couldn't find it. The only slip I had was the one that is cream and is now way too short and WAY too tight! Dang it! How weird is it that my dresser drawers were actually taped shut and everything else in my drawers made it here ... but 3 of my slips didn't. WEIRD! Anyway, thus began the hunt for a new black slip. And let me just tell you, it is NOT easy to find a great black slip these days. I haven't shopped for one in a very long time and now I'm wondering if I'm the only one who wears slips anymore since I swear I'm the only one shopping for them. After looking in countless stores and shopping malls, we were in Macy's one night looking for a slip. Shawn was pushing Jackson in the stroller behind me. We walked through the BRA section and Jackson looked up at Shawn and said: "Mama has some of these, hu Dad?" :)

I have so many more little "jackson-stories" to write and more posts about Washington but I just have to stop now. It's late and I'm getting sleepy. I'll just end with a picture of the little guy who we are completely smitten with and who has complete control over our lives! :)
