Merry Christmas!

Dear Friends and Family,

Note to reader: For the short version see the last paragraph.

The past year has brought a multitude of changes and blessings. Cora Gayle was born November 9th, our 4th daughter. She, like the others, is the most beautiful baby we have ever seen. She is growing and healthy and sometimes even lets Holly sleep at night. Cora, of course, sleeps whenever she darn well feels like it which is almost all the time.

We moved to Iowa. It wasn’t a far move, but satisfied the need to have our fourth child born in a fourth state. We loved Missouri and were saddened to part with so many friends. We had lived in Missouri for four years and this is the longest we have stayed in one house, or one state for that matter in 20 years. We were practically locals. But Iowa has lots to offer, mostly corn, but also friendliness and kindness by the bushel. While living in Missouri only one kind soul welcomed us to the neighborhood, but in Iowa, we have met everyone, in fact one neighbor brought us a pie.

Matt became Dr. Webb, but he doesn’t heal people, he is a professor of mathematics education. Mostly he induces stress and anxiety through the nefarious use of word problems. (Ask Grandpa Webb for details) Now he works at the University of Northern Iowa. Go Panthers!

Holly was pregnant for most of the year, but still managed to move her entire household, helped get a house ready to sell, joined two book clubs, took her kids to the library, weekly, and carried an extra 30 pounds around for most of the year. Alright, the real story is she managed to cook dinner, most nights, take naps most days, and always managed to do the laundry, barely.

Mariah is in the 2nd grade and is a voracious reader. Also, since we bought an old piano she has learned to plink out some tunes and she looks forward to learning more (so are we!). Ruth is our socialite who in her preschool has already managed to find a man to marry. Unfortunately, he is too young to know how threatening it is to see one’s future father-in-law cleaning his shotgun and chuckling. And Lindsay has enjoyed a broken arm and long-lasting unexplainable itching disease. And yet her positive temperament has only increased. This kid has a quick smile and will share her last bite of mile high chocolate pie with you. We love them all more each day.

Summing up, we are more blessed than we have a right to be. And we thank Him who is the source of all of these blessings. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Let it snow and snow and snow...

The snow has arrived. These are some random pictures of the first few snow storms we have had. Until today, there hasn't been a lot of snow, but the real difference is that it doesn't melt once it arrives. The bonus to all this snow is that my children are getting good at getting their own snow gear on. They have to do it all by themselves at school to go out at recess (yes, the go out unless it is 0 or colder). We have enjoyed our first sledding trip of the season and look forward to many more. This morning we woke up with 5-7 inches of snow and then it snowed all day. The squirrels in our front yard were so fun to watch! They would run has hard as they could under the snow and then a head would pop up. I'm still trying to get video. We look forward to having a white Christmas tomorrow.

Happy Thanksgiving

This year we were we lucky to have Grandma and Grandpa Webb join us for Thanksgiving. It was a fun week with no school for Matt or Mariah. We did a lot of reading...

Lindsay somehow decided that Grandpa was her new best friend and attached (or attacked) herself to him. She showed him all her best moves. I'm not sure what Grandpa thought, but he was probably glad for a little peace and quiet when he went back home.
Grandma came with recipes in hand and provided us with a Thanksgiving to remember. It was great to have someone here who wanted to do all the cooking (and the cleaning too :))

Introducing #4 - AGAIN

Cora Gayle Webb

Ok, so now we have proof that we are crazy. After a week of calling Eva, Eva, we decided to change her name. It just wasn't working for Matt or I. Cora is a name that we have liked for a long time, and she just seems like a Cora. We were waiting to see if we could actually change it before we let everyone know. Apparently in the state of Iowa you can change a name until the child is a year old. Hopefully this will not ruin her later in life (she can share it with her therapist). The other girls are still having a hard time remembering to call her by the new name, but I'm sure by next week we will all have it down. Today we blessed her in church- with her new name. So no changing now. We love our Cora! Grandma and Grandpa Webb are here for the week and got to share this day with us.

Introducing #4

Baby #4 has arrived. Eva Gayle Webb. It was a long wait for her, but we are so happy to have her here. All my other babies arrived early, so I was devastated when my Mom arrived last Saturday and still no baby. Then her due date (the 7th) came and went and nothing happened. I had an induction scheduled for Thursday, but I really didn't want to have one. Basically, I was going crazy.
On Monday I had a Dr. appointment and I was dilated to a 4, but still not having any real contractions. Then, by Monday evening I was finally feeling them getting a little stronger. I made Matt take me to Walmart so I could walk a few laps and hopefully get things going. By about 10 pm I realized I would probably be going to the hospital soon. So, Matt went to bed and I stayed up with my Mom. It was so great having her here. At 11:30 I woke Matt up and we headed to the hospital. My midwife told me to call if I thought the contractions were getting strong enough to have her head to the hospital before we got there. I really didn't think they were too bad, or at least that they would get a lot stronger before the end, so I didn't worry about it.
We got to the hospital at 12:02 and they sent me straight to a room - no triage. We got there and I was already at 8 cm. So, the midwife had a quick trip to the hospital and baby Eva was born at 1:09 am. It was a great delivery, but a lot different because she was facing the wrong direction. It meant I had all back pain and pushing took a lot longer. I really have to thank Matt and my midwife. Without them I would never have made it through the whole birth experience. However, it is all worth it. Recovery is going well and Eva is doing great. She weighed 7 lbs 1 oz and was 21" long.
I have to say that my Iowa hospital stay was by far my best. (This is my fourth hospital in four states). Maybe it was because Eva is my fourth child, or just the easy going manner here, but I didn't have nearly as many people bothering me or teaching me or poking me or lecturing me about a new baby. Everyone was so nice and it was great to get the time to relax. I was so happy to come home. The best part was that my mom was here and she took care of my girls for me while I was in the hospital. It was also fabulous to have her here for a few days after to help and have someone to talk with. THANKS MOM!!!
Her sisters love her!!! Lindsay is by far the most curious (imagine that). She will sit next to me the whole time I am nursing and puts her arm around my back to feel close. Then she waits until I am done burping and will sit a while longer holding Eva. She is surprisingly patient for a chance to hold her. The other two are a big help getting things and helping me around the house.
Eva is a name that Matt has liked since we had Lindsay. It has grown on me. However, I did not know that people would pronounce the name like Ava and I am not a huge fan of that. She will probably have to tell people her whole life that it is EEEva not AAAva. Gayle is the name of a dear friend in California. We hope that Eva will grow up and be just like Gayle.

Right after her first bath. Soaking up the heat lamp.

October 2010

I guess you know what this post will be about- Yes! Halloween has come and gone again. It was a good month. No baby yet. I guess that will be a November post.

We went to a corn maze nearby. It was small and even included a "cow pie" toss game at the end. I'm not sure it could not get any better (if you are four).

At a UNI Volleyball Game
Carving Pumpkins

Class Parties
Trunk or Treat

Raking Leaves - and there are still so many more to go!
