Good morning from Seaside

We arrived at Nick and Lindsay's Friday evening around 9:00. It was quite the adventure reading the street signs on Ord. Every intersection the signs are in a different place. Add to that I wasn't wearing my glasses and don't see well in the dark. Still we managed to get here. Lori took 3 naps in the car. Trying to catch up from late nights with Justin. We saw snow as we drove threw the grapevine (I-5 north of LA). Yesterday we went to the beach and Ron and Nick tried and tried to throw a message in a bottle into the ocean. The bottle kept coming back. Ron is checking the tide schedule so they can try again. Last night we had potato soup and watched Mixed Nuts. It was a nice relaxing day followed by a relaxing evening. I'll have pictures to post when we get back.

Beautiful gift of love

This afternoon I went to check the front porch for the last package coming from Amazon. Instead I found 3 packages tied together with a red bow. The top package was for Lori and I could see the bottom package was for me. Since there was not card I said to Ashley "let's open the one with my name on it so we can figure out who they are from". I gasp when I opened mine. It is the most beautiful nativity wall hanging, and I knew it was from Randi Sue. She wrote a note the christmas card she sent earlier this week about being jealous of my talents. When I read the card I said, "back at you sister". There is not a Christmas decoration I love more than nativities, and she did such a wonderful job. Well I said to Ashely and Zach, "let's find a place to hang it". So we went into the living room looking for a lonely wall. Zach suggested hanging above the arch going into the kitchen. At which point I said,"blasted Zach, now I have to go find the ladder". Zach hung it for me, and it is breath taking. It looks like I have a stained glass window above the arch. Thank you to my dear sweet sister who gave we a beautiful gift of love, made with love. I love you too Randi Sue.

Quiet Morning Ramblings

"It's December the 24th, and I'm longing to be up North", The beginning words to White Christmas have been rolling around in my brain this morning. Don't know why, I've never had a white Christmas.
I'm almost ready for the holiday festivities. A few more gifts to wrapped, potato soup to make, and packing for a long over due trip to visit Nick & Lindsay.
Ron has been busy in Grandpa Santa's toy shop making rocking toys for Katie and Abigail. Katie's is a lady bug (because she is the Katie-bug) and Abigail's is a train (Benjamin has a motorcycle and Curtis a plane, so this way they can be "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles). I'll post pictures when they are finished.
Ron and I went to the Chandler Mall last night for a few last minute things (new slippers for me and See's candy for the family). Most of the stores were not very busy, but the line to see Santa was crazy long. Ron commented how nice it is to not have to wait in those lines anymore. But he was willing to wait in the candy line, the man has his priorities.
So here in the quiet morning hours before the hustle and bustle of the last minute "want to get dones" I can reflect on what I miss most at Christmas time. I miss my Dad every Christmas. I remember making Kleiner with with my parents of Christmas Eve. My failed attempts at Rum Pudding (which he drank anyway, yes drank I said failed). I miss Nick and Lindsay. There is a Harry Conick Jr. Christmas song called "When my heart finds Christmas" and for me the heart of Christmas is my family. I am so looking forward to seeing them this week-end. I better get busy, the "last minutes" are calling my name.

Friday, December 12, 2008

Last week-end was family time in Sedona. Everyone was there except Nick, Lindsay and the stinks (you know the airforce thing). We met at our house Friday afternoon and caravaned up together. Friday night was cold and crisp and perfect potato soup weather. Saturday was hiking, guitar hero, and making goodies. Sunday was breakfast, packing, heading home and everyone going to church together. We had a blast as you can tell from the pictures.

Remember When?
I found this while going around some blogs and thought it looked fun:Here are the rules...1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I have together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don't want to play on your blog, or if you don't have a blog, I'll leave my memory of you in my comments. We all have some sort of memory... SO DO IT :)

What a Month, What a Holiday

I cannot believe it is the last day of November. It has been a very busy month. Got my motorcycle license. Ron and I went to San Diego the week-end before Thanksgiving. We had a great time. Got there Friday about 5:30. An hour later we went outside to get in the truck and a fog had rolled in. I had not seen fog that think in a long time. It lasted until about 10:30 the next morning. Saturday morning was great. We went to Seaport Village for breakfast, sat outside in the fog drinking hot chocolate. Something different for a couple of zonie. Before we left town we picked up my brand new scooter. A Tank 150. It is the big brother of the one we borrowed from Susie. This one will go 55 MHP.

Thanksgiving was almost perfect. Ron started the morning by ripping out the old BBQ in the backyard. Now there is plenty of room for tricycle rides. Dinner was great. Kristi, Dustin, Ashley and their families all can over for dinner (see it couldn't be perfect without Nick, Lindsay & the stinks). After dinner we played guitar hero on the wii, watched movies on Grandma's bed, rode on trikes and in wagons, and ended the evening with a fire and roasting marshmallows in the back yard.

PMS

Ron and I went this morning to MVD to take the skills test for our motorcycle endorsement. I was very nervous and I don't know why. As we were sitting at the skills track waiting I was telling Ron that I should not be nervous. I can parallel park a school bus. Run a school bus through a backwards serpentine. So why am I nervous. The guy giving us the test was very nice. He explained everything clearly. If you get 11 points you fail. Every time you put your foot down that is 5 points. If you cross the lines on a skill it is 5 points. Hit a cone 1 point and so forth. There are 2 timed portions to the test. One is a fast braking skill and the other is a fast swerve to avoid an obstacle. Well not too fast since you are going between 12 and 16 MHP. Ron took his test first. I think it was helpful to see exactly how the test went. Ron and I both passed with flying colors. I didn't get any points. Ron got 1 point because he went to fast in the timed portion. What can you expect from a race car driver. So now I officially have P.M.S. (passenger, motorcycle, school bus) endorsements on my driver license.

Sadness

My day started out on a good note. I was happy. But life has a way of dragging one down. Work was just the pits. Standing by department policies only to have people go over your head, and your bosses back down on their policies. There you are, left looking stupid. With the election over I though life could get back to normal. No more conflict. But that didn't go the way I wanted either. So here I am with a long list of sadness.

Randi Sue is upset and feels like she can't voice her opinion and that makes me sad.
She is afraid and worried about the future and that makes me sad.
Lindsay is upset and feels that she too can't voice her opinion and that makes me sad.
She is afraid to leave comments on family blogs and that makes me sad.
Randi Sue and Lindsay both feel they have hurt each others feelings and that makes me sad.
Lindsay removed the comment section from her blog and that makes me sad. I love to read the comments from her mother. So often I don't understand them. Mother, Daughter inside jokes. But I love them non-the-less.
I left comments on Randi Sue's blog in hopes of making them both feel better but that didn't work and that makes me sad.

I am a very patriotic person. When I was a girl I wore a Vietnam War POW/MIA bracelet for years. Never taking it off. The bracelet had the name of a US Solider missing in action and the date he went missing. I wore it so long that the finish wore off the inside and it was so rough that I would paint it with clear nail polish to keep from getting a rash. In the mid 70's Vietnam starting sending the bodies of US military men home. Names were printed in the paper every week of the the bodies that had been returned. I wore that bracelet until the day I read that Capt. Samuel Waters body had been returned to the United States. In the 90's Ron and I were in DC for a day and we went to the Vietnam Memorial and found his name on the wall.
We had a flag on our house everyday during Desert Storm. I thing we went through 3 flags because they got so sun faded.
Now I were a Red shirt every Friday to support the troops fighting in the middle east. Now a large number of bus drivers were red shirts every Friday. I remember one driver told me she did not support the war. I told her you don't have to support the war to support the men and women will to give up their lives to protect our freedom. The next week she was wearing a red shirt and saying the same thing to other people. I makes me proud that so many of my co-worker show their support each week.

On the MSN home page people are still bad mouthing both candidates and that makes me sad.
I was reading a Newsweek interview with Michelle Obama and I saw a human side that made me sad.
The 2 daughters of the Obama's will have to leave their home and their friends and go to a strange new school in a few months and that makes me sad.
They won't be able to go anywhere without the Secret Service and that makes me sad.
They can't be just normal little girls and that makes me sad.
Barak and Michelle Obama will have to worry more about the safety of their children than regular parents do and that makes me sad.
They have and will continue to hear terrible things about their parents and that makes me sad.
There are people in this country not willing to support the office of the president and that makes me sad.
There were people who voted for the wrong reasons and that makes me sad.
There were people that voted for Barak Obama just because he was black and that makes me sad.
There were people that votes for McCain just because he was white and that makes me sad.
There were people who voted for a candidate just because a celebrity endorsed them and that makes me sad.
I am afraid it will take people to long to push bad feeling aside and they will hurt other people and that makes me sad.
I am afraid this will hurt someones feelings and that makes me sad.

And now I have poured out my sadness and will set it aside. I'll wake up tomorrow morning and once again kneel down and thank my Heavenly Father for all my many, many blessing. And prayer for a happy day.

My Busy Saturday

Saturday morning the cleaning lady was here. Ashley is my cleaning lady. It gives her some extra money and gives me some extra Madie time. I was holding Madie in front of the TV while I was watching "Sewing with Nancy". Apparently it is a real snoozer because I looked down and Madie was nodding off. After Ashley and Madie left I spent some quality time in my sewing room. I'm working on a wall hanging for Katie's birthday. I'm going to put Kaite-Bug across the top in the same red fabric as the Lady bugs. Then quilt and I am done. In the afternoon Dustin's sweet family came for a visit to Costco. They don't have a membership so I get to go with them. Benjamin and Curtis had to ride to the store with Grandma. What a sacrifice to spent time with the boys. I got to hear about "trunk or treat" and their Halloween costumes. I'm hoping for pictures from Sarah and will post when I get them. At Costco I found out that Abigail loves the free samples almost as much a Lori. The day went by way to fast.

Permit

Even though I don't need a motorcycle license to ride the scooter I am using (anything 50cc or under) I decided to get my permit. I went today and boy have things changed since the last time I took a test at the MVD. It is all computerized. The test is given on a computer using a touch screen. You know the second you submit an answer if it is correct. The motorcycle permit test is 25 questions and you must get 20 correct to pass. If you don't like a question you CAN skip it and go to the next one (I was told by someone at work that if you skip they count it as wrong, but that is incorrect). There is a place at the top of the screen that tells you how many questions you answered, and how many are correct. When you submit that 20th correct answer the test is over and you PASS. I didn't get any wrong. So now I have my permit and am on my way to a motorcycle endorsement on my license. It is a big joke a work to be female and get your M endorsement. As a School bus driver you have a P (passenger) and a S (student) endorsement. SO when you add the motorcycle you have PMS. That is even the order MVD places them on the back of your license. Who says they don't have a sense of humor.

Scooterville

It has been forever since I sat down and blogged. I was waiting until I could post the video from Roy & Kerry's wedding. Well the camera and computer are not speaking to each other, and I will need to wait until Ron has some free time.

On to the subject at hand. I have officially joined the many people at work as an active member of Scooterville. Thanks to a sweetheart of a Sister-in-law I am riding a scooter to work everyday. What a gas saver. I drove to work for 6 days on half a gallon of gas. When the subject of scooters first came up Ross told Ron that Susie had a scooter sitting in Roy's garage. He suggested we borrow it before buying to see if I liked it. So Susie let us borrow the scooter. Ron got it licensed and insured and the timing could not have been better. Those of you that follow family blogs know that Ashley and Zach's car was in an accident. While they are waiting for the insurance company to figure things out poor Ashley is stranded. So now she came use my car during the week and just bring it home for week-ends.

Some time soon I have Lori take my picture as I get ready to ride off into the night (it is really the morning, but 4:45 is still dark) and post it for your viewing pleasure.

The Painting

Ron, Lori and I went to Costco yesterday so that Ron could see Greg Olsen. We had a great visit. Greg has so many wonderful and inspiring paintings. As we visited we were standing in front of this beautiful painting titled "Hand in Hand". It is Christ walking through a clearing in a forest with a little girl wearing a pink dress holding a doll. After the visit we walked through Costco for the samples (always Lori's favorite part of the trip). I turned to Ron and said stop me from making an impulse buy, I want that painting. The loving and supportive husband that his is, he carried the painting to the car. So now we have a new addition to our Greg Olsen collection.

Meeting an old friend

I've been checking every ones blogs this week, and for the most part you guys are all as busy as I am. Well I'm not as must busy a bored. Chandler Schools is on intersession. I was off work last week, but had to go back to work on Monday the 6th. Needless to say there was not must to do. So I sent a lot of time visiting with co-worker.

Well today I finally had it. After a week of boredom I called it quits at noon today and went shopping. I bought 2 blouses at Kohls for myself and birthday presents for Abigail, Curtis and Katie. I ended up at Costco in Gilbert. The at Santan Village. When I walked in I say a BIG display of Greg Olsen paintings. As I turn the corner of the display there was Greg. I said "Greg Olsen!" He called me by name and gave me a big hug. I was a little surprised he remembered me. I guess I shouldn't have been. He was our home teacher when we lived in Mesa a hundred years ago. Ron and I had gone out to dinner with Greg and Syd a several times. They have a daughter that is Dustin,s age, and I was their primary teacher for a while.

Needless to say, Boy am I glad I left work early today.

But it's free

I was at the grocery store this morning and the strangest thing happened. At the checkout line 2 shoppers were in front of me. The man being checked out bought a package of gum. Clerk said the gum was buy 1 get 1 free, and did he want to grab another pack. He said no. So the clerk asked if he wanted her to get him another pack. Again he said no. So the clerk asked him if he wanted the second pack, and again he said no. I was dumbfounded as was the clerk and the lady standing between me and the man. So the lady said that her daughter liked that kind of gum and would he just take the free pack and give it to her. So he did and she got the free gum. I totally don't understand it. It is not like the gum will go bad in a few days. I never leave my FREE stuff at the store. Even if I don't need it I know enough people that someone can you use. To me it is like going to the store buying a carton of ice cream and them just walking out without. Go figure.

Grand Tea Party

Thursday the 18th we received the following e-mail:

Dear Grandma, Grandpa, and Auntie Lori,
Please bring your fancy clothes and hats to a tea party at my house tonight at 5:30pm. We will be serving dinner and treats. Please also bring some regular clothes for water balloon fun and feeding the birds after the tea party.
i love you

jenny

So we dresses for the party. Arrived at 5:30 to have the door answered by a very excited Jenny. We all wore hats over to the party only to find out that Jenny had hats for us to wear. So we switched hats. Well not Ron, his hat was to fun to switch out of.

We danced to music in the living room while Kristi finished dinner. Jenny had the stereo ready to go. We held on to each others scarves and danced in circles. Ron held Katie who thought it was the grandest of events. She just laughed and laughed.

When dinner was ready we all sat at the table. Jenny made place cards for everyone and decorated the table with flowers cupcakes and seashells. Dinner was breakfast. Waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, bacon, and hash browns. I think Jenny ate 2 cups of hash browns. They were her favorite. She kept commenting on how good they were, and could you pass the potatoes.

After dinner we changed our clothes and went out back while Kristi filled water ballons. Kristi said don't worry you won't get wet. Jenny likes to throw the balloons at the wall. That was until Grandpa stepped in to show her how you use water balloons. Apparently you throw them at the Grandpa.

Our last activity was feeding the birds. This takes place in the front yard. We took an old loaf of bread and Lori and I tore ours slices in small pieces and threw it on the lawn. Jenny took to pieces of bread, put grass in between them and made a bird sandwich. She spoils the birds so.

All in all it was a GRAND adventure.

Great Weekend

Today is Heidi's birthday. If she reads this blog, Happy Birthday to you. I remember when my kids were little she would always send them birthday cards with candy inside. She is such a good Aunt and sister. For those of you with the same TV obsessions I have tonight is the season premiere of HOUSE and NCIS is next Tuesday.

Saturday we had Benjamin, Curtis and Abigail from 8:00 until about 1:00. Abigail can sure keep up with her brothers. She is going to be the supreme ruler in that house. We have a crow problem in our backyard. They like to steal the dog food. Worst part is they dunk it in the water at make it nasty. So Ron bought a pellet gun to do away with the birds. Saturday the grand kids got here earlier than we expected and Ron's pellet gun was on the hearth. He when to put it away and Benjamin wanted to know why Grandpa had a gun. Ron told him is was to shoot the birds. Benjamin said it is not nice to shoot the birds. So Ron explained about the birds and how the steal Pugsley's food. Benjamin's reply was "We shouldn't shoot the birds Grandpa, we should just forgive them." My guess is something he heard at home. Take the sentence replace shoot with hit and birds with Curtis.

Anyway we had a great weekend, But boy was I tired. There is a reason people have children when they are young.

FRIDAY

I am so glad it is Friday. I won't need to set the alarm clock tonight. Lori told me when she has a daughter she wants to name her Friday, because everyone loves Friday.
Don't have any real plans for the week-end. Thought I might go to Joanne's to look at fabric. I want to make a couple of Christmas quilts. I better get busy. The rate this year is flying the holidays will be here in a flash.
Best part of the holidays, family & food. Or is that FOOD!!!

I have NOT fallen off the planet

It seems like the world has just been flying past me a great speed. The first 6 weeks of school are always killer, but things have finally calmed down. I have been getting off work around 3:30 this week, and it is GREAT.
I feel like I have missed so much in the past 2 months. My grand kids have grown and changed so much. Madie is rolling over, and loves to laugh at her Mommy. Katie looks at me like she is suppose to know me, but not quite sure why. Abigail is so busy with her brothers, but if you have food you are her friend. Jenny, Benjamin and Curtis just kind of roll with the punches. They are always happy to see me. I miss that I haven't seen them very much. Hopefully that will change now that work is better and fall break is just 3 weeks away. I miss my children too, but I know my girls will make plans for the break. Hopefully Sarah can come up and play. Dustin has lunch with his Dad from time to time. Their offices are very close.
I really miss Nick. I haven't talked to him in a while. His calls are always the highlight of my week-end.
I still feel connected through Lindsay's blog. I love every one's blog. I try to read them everyday. If really makes me feel connected in our spread out world. 2 thumbs up to Al Gore for inventing the Internet.

School is in Session

It has been awhile since I posted anything. Work has been crazy. Long days that turn into long weeks. Today I worked from 5:00am to 5:00pm. It was my shortest day this week. I eat lunch at my desk while taking voice mail off my phone. But with school in session everyone thinks they need special treatment. Here are some of the funnier requests.

Move the bus stop it is in a bad neighborhood (Hello, it's your neighborhood)
My daughter needs a special needs bus, her feet are small.
Can't you pick my child up before 6:30 am? I need to leave for work. (schools starts a 8:10)
You need to move the bus stop closer to my house, my son plays the cello.
I have a speed bump in front of my house so the bus has to slow down anyway why can't my child get on then?

People say the strangest things. Some times I wonder if they can hear themselves.

Thanks to Lindsay you get a slide show.

Monday, July 14, 2008

Saturday was Kristi and Benjamin's birthday. We all got together at Kristi's house. Everyone was there (even Nick he called while we were at Kristi's). Kristi made ribs for dinner and everyone pitched in with side dishes. Benjamin was so excited. He kept telling us it was his birthday, and he was four. He loved his presents, especially the buzz lightyear water gun. I think Kristi's favorite was the re-gifting of "Ebenezer". A movie she gave as a joke to Dustin and Sarah. We are very good at re-gifting in our family. We had a blast. And if I can figure out how to attach a slide show you can see for your self.

Back to work

Well I started back at work on Thursday. I wasn't suppose to start until Monday the 7th, but we had a transformer fire at the main yard and needed to move my office to the East yard. Today they got the power up at the main yard so they shut down our server at 8:00 am (without telling us. everything just went down). So we all moved our things back to the main yard. At 3:15 when we still didn't have a server and I had cleaned everything I could think of (yes I even cleaned the bathrooms) I decided to call it a day. I sure hope they get the server up this afternoon. If not I am going to be way behind. I don't think I can convince CUSD to start school late because they turned off our server.

WALL-E

Jenny and I went to see WALL-E this morning. The movie is a little on the Green side. You know earth so polluted that human life could no longer survive. The movie was a little to mature for a 4 year old. Not the normal Disney song and dance (no songs or dances). For probably the first 2/3 of the movie the only dialog is a few word from the 2 main robots, WALL-E and EVA. As we left the theatre 2 Harkins employees were giving everyone free movie passes because the theatre was so warm. I didn't think it was warm, but then I didn't have to wear my sweater so it probably was on the warm side. Anyway it made the movie a freebie. Still I wouldn't recommend WALL-E for the real young movie goers. But Jenny and I had some good Grandma-Granddaughter time.

Randi Sue wanted more pictures. So here are my grandkids.

Jenny and Grandpa playing guitar hero. She is quite the little rock star.

Katie is a happy little girl. She loves to smile and kick her legs, and if Jenny is laying within reach pulling hair is pretty fun too.

Sarah and the kids are going to visit family in Washington tomorrow. They will be there for 3 weeks. Dustin will join them the last week. I will miss these sweet faces.
This is our sweet little Madie cakes. She is a very good baby and spoils her Mommie by sleeping at night. Grandbaby #6 belongs to Ashley & Zachary

We just got back from Monterey. We had a great visit with Nick, Lindsay and the stinks. Nick & Lindsay have a cute house. She has done a great job turning it into a home. The weather in Monterey is COLD. The high on Sunday was 56. I wore sweaters all week-end.
Saturday we drove 17 mile drive around Pebblebeach. Ron's favorite part was the golfers that teed off right next to the ocean.
Sunday we went to Fisherman's Wharf and walked around and had lunch. That evening we played scrabble at Nick and Lindsay's. Nick kept score in mandarin. He could have cheated and we would have never known. It was a great trip.
