Recently the work is slowing down, but it's okay-we are working with less active people/families, which is just as important as teaching nonmembers. Of course, I haven't met my goal yet-which is to baptize Bigfoot. Maybe by next Christmas.
I'm glad you had fun with Brad. I loved the pictures. Speaking of pictures, I enclosed some priceless memories for you to marvel at. They are of me and Sister Davis.
This morning I read a really great verse in Mormon 9-- it was verse 4. I forgot how matter-of-fact Moroni is. It's awesome. I've really loved reading the Book of Mormon since I got here. We're supposed to be done by the end of the year, but I'm shooting for the end of November. I just got to Ether, so I should be set.
Hopefully my letters aren't super boring-I try to make them about 90/10 (90% funny, 10% hilarious). Today we contacted a referral and the lady said "you know, we're just not interested today". I almost said "well, does this weekend work for you then?" It was pretty funny. Some of the responses and excuses we get are kind of ridiculous.
Hope all is going well and that you guys have a nice Thanksgiving. Any fun trips planned soon?
Talk to you soon:)

Ugly sweaters help the work move along:)
Hi :) How are you?
Things have been going pretty good- we sort of put someone on date! Her name is Hilary and she is northern baptist (don't ask me what that means) and her husband Dave is LDS but inactive. I was really nervous to ask her to be baptized (this was our second lesson- the lesson before I came in halfway through because we were on exchanges) because she has a lot of concerns and questions, and she really knows her stuff. At the end of the lesson I asked her if she would be baptized and she said she already had been, so we asked her if she would read and pray about the Book of Mormon. She said that if she got the answer that it was true, she would get baptized. We asked her if December 21st would work, and she said that was probably too soon haha. But we promised her we'd be here to help her and answer questions as she reads and prays, so I am really excited!
We have three dinners on Thanksgiving so far, so I'm sure we'll be full! I got your package- thanks! I'm glad that you liked the pictures! I am happy :) we are having fun and working hard. We met with this older lady, Donna, who is Presbyterian and we brought a lady from the stake who is really into family history with us because Donna really likes family history. They were able to talk and we gave Donna a Book of Mormon. She says she's super Presbyterian and not interested, but she's really nice and we visit her sometimes because she is in a wheelchair and doesn't get out much.
Noelle sent me an email before she left for Disney and it was really nice to hear from her. Did you end up going to Gettysburg?
I have heard from Jordan AND Chalane recently-they're both doing well. It's cool that we're all out on missions. I'm pretty sure we can skype on Christmas. We just use members computers and stuff. From my music..... you could send classical and my choir stuff. That'd be nice :) Hmmmmm for Christmas.....just clothes and maybe some more stationary and stamps?
I got the pictures :D Juke looks awesome- haha. I miss sunsets in VA! Although we have some cool ones here too. I miss music! Speaking of music, I heard "Looking for Love" at Costa Vida (another member took us there). I swear that place is going to haunt me! I always hear the most annoying songs there! Although I love it because it makes me laugh and think of you guys. Oh and this morning I was looking up something in the Bible Dictionary and found "Anise" in there! Your name is in the BD :)
I am excited for the holidays coming up- all of the wards are having Christmas parties and one ward is having an ugly sweater party so Sis Davis and I are going to the DI to try and find some good ones ;) it should be awesome. I'll make sure to take pictures.
I love being a missionary. I know this is the Lord's work and that I can do it because He is always there to help me. When I am discouraged or tired, I just remember why I am here serving and that the Lord needs me to keep going so that everyone can know the truth and be happy.
I heard some really cool quotes on humility the other day in church:
"Humility is when a man can see something divine in every other man" and "when greatness does not come FROM them, but THROUGH them". I really liked those and wrote them down so I can always remember that I am here to help others feel the spirit and recognize how much Heavenly Father loves them.
I can't wait to hear from you! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving :) I'll be thinking of you!
Love,
Sister Wight
PS- Every week a report is sent out to all the missionaries of who has been baptized, and one of the names from last week was 'Innocent Niyogusenga'. I kid you not.

Progressive Dinner--it's the Mormon way...
Hey!
We have one family we've been seeing a lot, Jerome, Jewelee, and Britain (yes, it is pronounced Julie, and yes, her son's name is Britain)! They are super nice. Jewelee is less active and Jerome is Catholic, but he is really open to us and they've had us over for dinner and stuff before. They are all so sweet and Britain is the cutest thing- he is 4 and he has the biggest crush on Sister Davis and I. He always walks us to our car and opens the car doors for us :) Jewelee told us that Jerome considers us his little sisters-that really meant a lot to me.
No more small towels thankfully! And we saw Jennifer and her dad at this Progressive Dinner (people in the neighborhood get assigned to a house to go to for dinner- it's some Mormon way of getting to know your neighbors/find out who's not a member in your neighborhood). And that was really good because we actually have to hand off Jennifer to the young single adult missionaries, and there was a girl her age at the dinner that invited her to the ward and to go bowling with her, so that was awesome!
Sister Davis has resigned herself to the fact that she isn't going to Argentina :( but I think she could still go. Sister Smith is doing really well! She is teaching more and more so that's wonderful :) I am so excited for more music :D We're getting so sick of our music. I can't believe you went to West Virginia- it sounds like you all had fun though :) I'm jealous haha.
So far I think we have two Thanksgiving meals actually planned- everyone and their dog has been inviting us though! (literally everyone and their dog because everyone HAS a dog). I'm not sure what is happening for Christmas yet, but I think we can skype...I'm pretty sure we can. I got the pictures- I think I sent some to Dad but I'll send some more to you. That is so weird that Brad is so close by! If I had seen him it would've been hilarious :)
I'm so glad you are feeling better- I was worried :( How's Juke doing?
I miss our girl time :( I'm so excited to talk on Christmas! It's not very far away! It's been getting colder and colder here but not too much snow yet- just dustings. I bought some boots and I'm still waiting to get a coat.
K, enjoy the pictures!
I love you.
Sister Wight
PS- watch "The Butterfly Circus". You might be able to find it on youtube. President showed it to us last week at zone conference and I loved it. I don't think it's a church film, but you'll see why he showed it to us.
Leslea and her companion have been raking leaves for service and the other pictures are from when they went on a hike in Bell Canyon.
*This week's scripture is one Leslea put in a letter we also got today--3 Nephi 4:30-33 (she said "I especially like the gushing tears just like I will have if I have to eat any more spaghetti")

"My Heavenly Father Loves Me"
Here is the link to Leslea's "going away" song right before she left on her mission. I recorded it at a practice a couple of days before she sang it in church since we couldn't record it there. The sound may not be great, but hopefully not too bad:) This has always been one of her favorite songs.

A very small towel....
Hi :)
I'm glad you got my pictures! People are already starting to put up Christmas decorations....way too soon. Oh I'm glad Sister Heiner sent the pictures to you. I didn't get transferred and I have the same companions :) I'm happy though. I wasn't ready to leave this area- I just got here!
It's been a pretty slow week. We don't have any investigators and we are trying desperately to find some. We've been going down the list of potential investigators in our area book and contacting them. One boy answered the door in just a towel. A very small towel! He said "Oh...are you guys christians...?" and we said "Yes, we're LDS" and he was like "Oh well I'm not interested" and all of this was while he was standing in just his towel....oh goodness. So anyway it's been pretty slow so we raked a lot of leaves as service last week- and we got a lot of lessons out of it so that was exciting! We raked Jennifer's yard (she's a potential investigator- the one that "broke up with us" last transfer) and then taught her and her brother the First Lesson. Her brother still had so many questions, but their dad kept saying how much he likes it here because everyone is so nice. So that was really good! Miracles. I know we will get some investigators soon. A lot of the appointments we set up just always fall through (they don't show up or cancel). But it'll turn around as we keep working :)
We listen to cd's in the car, and we also have these portable cd/dvd players. And yeah, I can have an ipod too but obviously only with appropriate mission music on it and stuff. Which means "music that is uplifting and not romantic or merely entertaining"....so we have some EFY cd's, some Josh Groban, Piano Guys, etc. OH! Speaking of music- Sister Davis and I ate at Costa Vida for lunch last week one day and while we were there I heard "Caribbean Queen" and "What Have You Done for Me Lately" in one sitting. I could not believe it. I can't get away from the 80's and the moving shoulders! But I secretly loved it. They've both been stuck in my head ever since....;) I'm excited for more cd's!
I hope you are feeling better-that sounds horrible :( I am so sorry- haha that is funny about what the doctor said though :) poor Mom. I hope your blisters went away. Let me know how you're feeling now though. I hope Juke is doing well too. Tell him I miss him and that I have the picture of him and I right by my bed! I put all of my pictures right by my bed. Oh and I hope Noelle is doing well too- and Heather! I miss them.
I pray that you and Dad and Juke are always doing well and that you all know how much you mean to me. I know it seems like so long before I get home, but once we get to January you can say that I'll be coming home next year! I know the Lord is blessing all of us while I am here, and when it is hard, I think of what you and Dad have taught me and that keeps me going. I love you so much.
Hope you are doing way, WAY better.
Love,
Sister Wight
PS- oh and also, we visited this less active family last week, and they had one of those pianos that plays itself! The lady put in some ABBA, so we got to hear Dancing Queen and Take A Chance On Me on a player's piano. The things that happen on your mission, I swear. :) Love you!
*Last week I had some crazy horrible bacterial infection and ended up in the ER in the middle of the night and the doctor told me I had the "angriest throat he'd ever seen" (hence the blisters)....great---anyway, things are much better now. As for the songs, I will just refer you to YouTube to view the Janet Jackson video "What Have You Done For Me Lately" and pay attention to the shoulders:)

Poor doggy:(
Mom,
I am so sorry about Rocky- when I read that I started crying. I miss the dogs because everyone in Utah has a dog. But that's so sad-I hope you're doing okay now. I pray for you everyday and I love you. Poor doggy :(
(Both of our dogs got out last week because the HOA landscapers wedged our back gate open with a rock. Someone called us to tell us they saw them, but in the 5 minutes it took me to get there, Rocky was gone and only Penny was there. We looked for hours and the next day we found out that he had been hit by a car just around the corner from our house. It's horrible:( This is one of my favorite pictures from long ago)

Orange and lumpy?
Okay- first of all, before I do ANYTHING. PICTURES. The one in front of the temple is my district when we went to the Draper Temple. The other ones are my companions and I, and some are of the awesome halloween decorations here in Sandy. Apparently people come from all over to trick-or-treat here. Anyway, I'll send some more :) finally!
I'm not sick anymore (knock on wood) but last week I had to gag down some horrible soup :( it was orange and lumpy and horrible. She dished it up for us, and there was a lot. All of our potential investigators didn't show- all of them! And one of them said that it's not a good time for him to start meeting with the missionaries but it's okay. It'll get better. Tranfers are tomorrow, so we find out then if we're leaving or staying, if Sister Davis got her visa, etc. I just study whatever I want while Sister Davis has language study (Book of Mormon, New Testament, Preach My Gospel, etc). We went to the Jordan River Temple on Halloween, and it was really nice. It's a really pretty temple, it has stained glass like the DC temple. Thanks for checking on the skirts and Maya for me. I finally got two letters from Thus, so I have his house address now. I would love some cd's- we only have a few and they're getting old haha.
That's too bad that Comfort won't work out. Oh Jukeyboy. It's good you have some back-ups though. I hope it works out with you watching him and Dad working from home.
I'm sure Dad and Brad will have tons of fun, and much giggling will ensue. I got some Halloween pictures from the G-Wight clan, and there's one of their clan and B-Wight's clan. It is awesome- totally made me laugh out loud in the middle of the family history library. I'm glad your zombie run was fun- and I'm excited to get pictures.
I can feel everyone's love and prayers even when I am away. I really appreciate everything that everyone is doing for me. And even if we are not having a ton of success right now, everyday I have spiritual experiences and the people we visit help me so much. I love serving and I hope that I am helping them feel the spirit. I know that this gospel is true and I love learning about it. I just read about Moroni calling Ammoron a child of hell :) the scriptures are so great.
Okay I'm going to try and attach more pictures :) enjoy!
I miss you Mom. Have a wonderful week. I'll be looking forward to telling you how transfers go!
Love,
Sister Wight
*Since Leslea already referenced this scripture I thought I would just use it for this week's selection--this is one of our personal family favorites:) Alma 54:11
A member just sent me this picture from when they were over for a dinner appointment. Leslea asked her to tell us there were no changes on transfer day:) We were anxious to hear and waiting until next week seemed like forever, so once again-glad that nice people take the time to email us! Sister Davis is on the far right and Sister Smith is in the middle. She's the missionary they go pick up every day that serves with them.
