Finishing Up The Season

It seems like life has been extremely crazy. I haven't posted to our blog in weeks, BUT, it's not because nothing has been happening. We have been going to a lot of basketball games. If it wasn't Hailey's games and practice it was High School basketball. Hailey has finished her first basketball season. She improved soooooooooo much during the short season. Here are a few of her accomplishments:

1. She became very comfortable dribbling. The last few games she was able to bring the ball down the court. (Lee and I both questioned this a little because of her height we both thought she would be most utilized UNDER THE BASKET, there were also other girls who had more experience in the area) but it helped her become a better ball handler. A couple of times she dribbled right down the court to the basket to shoot! Which brings us to..........

2. She would shoot the ball and make it! She even made a free throw.

3. She figured out defense. With much encouragement from her dad, she would try and steal/grab the ball. She said one time, "but dad they always call it a jump ball". We had to explain to her that was a good thing. She was thinking she would get the ball and head down the court.

4. She did a really good job under the basket. She is not extremely tall for her age, but she is definitely tall enough that she has an advantage.

It has been so fun to see her learn these skills and become a better basketball player. I know she will continue to work hard. She has already asked to go to the gym and play basketball as a family. I am sure we will be spending a lot of time in the gym over the summer.

Crazy Blue Frog

Each year the Kindergarteners and 1st graders perform the crazy blue frog dance at half time of one of the basketball games. Well, Malerie had her debut and did a great job. She smiled most of the time, and had a good time. It is always so fun to see the kids dance. Some of them are pretty entertaining. Even though Hailey is in
2nd grade she got to do it also. Mrs. Johnston said she didn't know why she had been leading the kids all these years when there are kids like Hailey that absolutly love to do it. So, Hailey and 4 other OLDER kids got to dance as well. The funny thing is, Mrs. Johnston still stood in the front to lead. What a good lady! Hailey and Malerie both love her.
