Introoder!
We had a possum in the garage last night!
Mom wasn't sure if Zolie was up in the insulated ceiling or not, she hadn't seen her all day, so when that happens the people leave the garage door just up enough for her to slip under because it was going to be a cold night.
Mom was sitting with us, reading, around 10:30 pm when we could tell something was in the recycling bin tossing the cat food cans around. They keep it by the back door so all they have to do is open the door and toss stuff in. The house and garage are attached. We've had raccoons in there before, they smell Zolie's kibble and steal it so mom thought that big one was back. She turned on the lights and opened the door noisly, banging it back & forth so the thing would run.
He only went about 2 feet away and stared at her, murderously. It did not want to leave the garage and tried to get behind some boards up against the wall. It was a big 'un, 15-20 pounds with a long rat tail. Didn't seem afraid in the least.
Mom started yelling and throwing cans at it then picked up a 2 by 4 and started poking and waving in it's general direction. Finally it lumbered off and mom shut the garage door. Zolie, it turns out, was in, as mom saw her on her thermal pad on top of the deep freeze the next morning.

Wow a possum - that is crazy! We totally can picture a racoon doing that kind of breaking and entering (well ok, maybe just entering) but never would have guessed a possum would! Our mom would have freaked out if she saw it - your mom was pretty brave to stand up to it!
Holy Cats! We didn't know possums got as big as Johnson! Mommy said she woulda chucked the 2x4...in the possum'd general direction...your Mom is quite brave to actually stand up to that slavering beast.
Actually, Mommy has deadly aim and she *might* have scored a hit!
Your Mom is pretty brave!
Whoa...I'm pretty sure my people woulda peed themselves...
Wow, your mom IS brave! Ours would have running screaming down the street!
We have never seen a possum but it sounds scary to have it in the garage.
Wow! Your Mom is brave to scare off that possum. They can be mean.
We've had those nasty possums in our yard, but never in our garage...thank goodness!!
Those possums, not much fazes them. I am glad I have never seen one face-to-face. I think they are kindof creepy!
We see them possumm guys in our back yard sometimes. Mum doesn't leave the metal monster room open much during the winter. No critters allowed inside, 'cept us of course.
I think Zolie was being smart and stay well away from that big possum. Not cool at all when they won't leave. Bad enough that he came in in the first place. Possums just have no manners. But your Mom is very brave to chase him off like that.
