Natalie's Milestones

I feel like I've neglected Natalie and her milestones on our blog. When Spencer was little every time he sneezed I blogged about it. Natalie is a little harder to write about because she doesn't do much.

I'm confident she'd be rolling over by now were it not for her cast.  She wants to move so bad and she gets irritable if I leave her laying on the floor. She wants to be up and in the action at all times.
She probably won't ever roll over. She will go straight from cast to brace. Good news though, the doctors say kids often learn to walk in the brace. Speaking of doctors, Natalie had her half way appointment where they removed her cast and put on a new one.

Here she is pre and post operation:
She did really well. The doctor said her leg looks good but the hip cup is shallow. They expect it to grow and develop around the ball joint. She has about five more weeks in the cast.
She isn't a great sleeper, I blame it on the cast being uncomfortable. Adam is so happy here because she FINALLY knocked off. During the day she'll power nap for 20 minutes at a time. At night she is waking up every 2-3 hours. I'm hoping once the cast is off she'll start sleeping longer stretches.
She has found her thumb and although I think she prefers the pacifier she'll suck her thumb until a suitable alternative presents itself.
She has taken an interest in food, she watches longingly as we eat our meals. We've been meaning to pick up some rice cereal but keep forgetting.
She is crazy about her brother. These two are good friends. Sometimes when we are driving in the car I'll look back and they are holding hands. Everyone needs at least one really good friend in this life and I'm so glad they have each other.

A Dream Come True

A few weekends back, by the luck of Adam hearing about it on the radio, we went to Andrew's Air Force Base for the FREE air show. The whole family enjoyed it, even Natalie...once we put her ear plugs in.

The pilots were phenomenal. The equipment and machines on display for people to look at and play on were vast and interesting. What was Spencer's favorite part? Car pooling from the parking lot to the base on a school bus. Yes, riding on a school bus has been Spencer's biggest fantasy and his dream has finally come true.

Don't get me wrong, he enjoyed the airplanes too. The first aircraft we saw flying around was an  F22  Raptor. It was incredibly fast and extremely loud.
Spencer was actually a little frightened by the noise but then we put in earplugs...all better!

Next we saw this little guy-
Yes, I have the picture the right way. I didn't catch this little aircraft's name but it's pilot was quite the stunt man. He would spin the helicopter in tight small circles and then plummet towards the ground--crazy.

Then we got to see the parachuters:
To burn time while we waited for the Blue Angles we played on/in the machines on display.
 In a helicopter
Talking on a radio
Spencer taught me the neck pose...
This is more difficult than it looks. Spencer nailed it, I look like a fool.

We met another "spica kid"
I couldn't resist taking their picture. For some reason I found it really endearing that Natalie wasn't the only spica kid there. It's like she has her own little club.

Then there was an announcement that the Blue Angles were going to do their show. We found a shady spot to watch and we waited. And we waited, and waited, and waited... We weren't the only ones that got tired of waiting...
The announcement was a good 40-50 minutes premature but once the show started we forgot all about the wait. They were awesome, I've never seen anything like them before.

Spencer got to ride on his first school bus and I got to see my first air show. We both feel pretty fulfilled.
