Due Date Recall

As it turns out, I am a little further along than originally announced. My first ultrasound was questionable. There were several factors that contributed to the confusion and my doctor was not satisfied so I was sent for another ultrasound.

I got the results back from my second ultrasound and everything (including baby) looks great.

Here I am at 16 weeks:

The sickness has gotten worse. I spend most of my days inside, laying down. You might have noticed I am wearing two black bracelets in my picture, those are my motion/morning sickness pressure point bands. I've been trying everything for the nausea and I think the bands are helping.

I am getting pretty tired of being sick. I'm ready to move out of this phase of pregnancy and start putting on some weight. I was sick for a good 20 weeks with Spencer so I am still expecting a few more weeks of misery.

My new due date is January 15th, just in case you were saving the date.

Summer Reading Program

Spencer signed up for Summer Reading at our library this year. I thought he'd be too young for something like this but I guess kids are never too young for books. Especially this kid, he LOVES books.

It was a five week program that ends this week. Spencer read 28 books. It has been enjoyable for me as a parent to watch Spencer take an interest in books.
I got to see his emergent reading skills take off as he turned pages, pointed at pictures and even read some of the words while we read to him.

The goal we had in reading this summer was to win a beach ball. They had prizes based on how many books you read and the beach ball was the ultimate prize. Of course we got our ball.
More than a ball though we got to spend time together reading and practicing reading skills. Life doesn't get much better.

A Lot of Poop for a Little Guy

Yep, this post is about poop. There is even going to be a picture so if you're not interested best just stop reading.

Now that I've properly warned I don't feel bad sharing that Spencer pooped in the closet today. I just got out of the shower and I noticed Spencer's diaper was hanging pretty low out the bottom of his shorts. Sure enough he had detached it and his shorts were the only thing holding it up.

While I was getting Spencer a new diaper and some day clothes Spencer took care of business. When I returned I didn't see any poop but I could definitely smell it. I took Spencer downstairs and cleaned him up. He had poop everywhere, all over his legs and the inside of his shorts; not very much on or in his actual diaper though interestingly enough.

Then as pregnant women often do, I forgot...I completely forgot to go back upstairs and check if there was more to clean. That is until Adam came home and I remembered to tell him this story.

Sure enough...

At this moment I have to say I wasn't mad or grossed out, I was simply grateful. Grateful it wasn't diarrhea. Truly grateful that for being poop it was contained and easy to clean up.

"Red Circle!"

On Saturday Adam and I took Spencer out in the stroller. As we were coming to the end of our walk we came upon a yardsale. We were forced to pass through it because it was set up on the sidewalk.

Spencer spotted a riding toy that he thought was pretty great.

Adam and I had no intention of buying anything because neither one of us had any money on us but we figured since Spencer was already on the toy riding around we might as well sit down in the shade and let him play for a few minutes. We talked with a lady running the sale about this and that while Spencer played.

After a good five minutes we told Spencer it was time to go home for his nap. Daddy picked Spencer up and Spencer waved "bye-bye" to the lady. Then the lady said:

Lady: "He should take that with him."

Me: "Oh, I'm sorry, we don't have any money on us."

Lady: "No, no, I meant I want to give it to him, for free. See it belongs to my friend and he gave it to me to sale and he told me what I didn't sale he wanted to donate."

We thanked the lady, packed up the toy and went home. The toy is dirty and old and most of the buttons don't work but Spencer loves it. We can't complain too much because it didn't cost us a dime....or can we...?

Yesterday while Spencer was playing with it, one of the buttons that previous hadn't worked started working. "Red circle", the toy said. What was strange about this was that after that button was pushed, all the other buttons stopped working...including the red circle.
When Spencer couldn't get any of the sounds to work he eventually lost interest and moved on to other activities. About an hour or two later when neither Spencer or I were anywhere close to the toy it spontaneously said "Red circle, red circle, red circle!" Naturally this caught our attention and Spencer went over to play with his new toy...but none of the buttons would make any sound.

The toy continued the pattern of saying "Red circle," about once an hour. It was completely bizarre. When Adam got home from work I told him about the toy's strange behavior. He soon learned for himself how the creepy toy would suddenly talk on it's own and then take a vow of silence.

It mostly made us laugh, until we were ready to go to bed. Adam and I were both in bed, the lights were off. I was actually asleep and then the toy started having a seizure. "Red Circle! Red Circle! Red Circle!" Over and over again, the toy probably said it 10 times or more. Adam jumped out of bed and was gone for a few minutes. When he came back I asked him if he put it outside. Even better though, my smart husband took the batteries out.

Problem solved, unless of course the toy still continues to talk, then we'll really have a problem.

Building Applications

Recently (in his spare time) Adam has been building an application for Android. I can't go into specific details because Adam is convinced that if his idea gets out prematurely someone with more free time will steal it and develop it first. Rightfully so, it is a pretty sweet idea. I can say though he has been learning a lot of Java and using (cursing) other people's libraries.

Adam hopes to release his app soon, although it may be a few more weeks until you can download it for yourself. He plans to offer a free version which will be generic and of course have ads for users to click on (you can't get something for nothing). He'll also release a paid version which will come with a few deluxe features that will make your using experience unbelievably amazing.

An iPhone version is down the road. Adam wants to get his Android app up and running before he moves on but don't worry that iPhone version will come eventually.

I have also been working on a new development (with Adam's help of course). I'm a little slower at building than Adam so my release date wont be for a few more months. My project has been in progress for about 12 weeks now with a release date of on or around January 24, 2012.

Check out this screen shot of what we have developed so far:

For now we are thinking about calling our project LamarBaby 2.0.

Yes we think we are pretty clever. I have been feeling nauseous pretty much all day every day so far. I've been sick a few times but I haven't been as sick as I was with Spencer. I'll be 13 weeks on Tuesday.

Here I am at 12 weeks:

I've noticed a pattern in my pregnancies, before conceiving I gain about 5lbs and after about three months of being pregnant I have lost 10lbs. It's almost like my body knows it needs to store up a little beforehand so that baby and I can survive the first few weeks.

Overall we are doing well and excited about the new baby. Of course Spencer has no idea of whats in store. Trust me son, this baby is going to turn your world upside down, just the way you did for me and daddy.

Staying Up Past My Bedtime...

While getting ready for bed tonight mom discovered I had a small rash on my bum and thought it would do me some good to air out...

I thought it was a good idea too!

Oh Hello...No Thanks.

Recently we had a young man stop by our house. He was well groomed, had a nice smile and even Adam said he had dazzling blue eyes. Add a charming personality and a duffel bag full of Living Scripture DVDs into the mix...you might see where I am going with this.

Did you know that for only $30 a month you could get a new animated children's DVD every 4 weeks which will teach your children good moral principles? Oh yeah, and did I forget to mention that you will also have to pay shipping and handling and you will be locked into a two year contract? Still, $820 for 24 DVDs is a small price to pay for your children to learn moral principles...I think I can find other ways to teach my family good values and Bible stories that don't include sitting them infront of the TV.

I DO NOT like people coming to my house asking me to buy things that I don't want. I don't even spend money on things I DO want. You're talking to the people who got rid of their monthly phone plan because it was too expensive and went with pay-as-you-go (which is working out nicely for us by the way).

I even feel uncomfortable when it is children knocking and asking for money. Unless of course I know you and your adorable children and then I would love to pledge them for their jog-a-thon and purchase their fancy gift wrap.

I think the reason I don't like this is because they are coming to my house, a place I have gone to get away from everything and relax. Then they spend 20 minutes of my time being charming and guilt tripping me. Every time I have been in this situation and have said "yes" I have always regretted it afterwards and it takes weeks, sometimes months to rectify the situation.

Sigh, no thank you.

Holiday Celebration

We didn't end up doing much for the Fourth of July. We did have plans to go to a potluck this evening and watch some fireworks but Spencer was begging to go to bed and we didn't feel like torturing him...or ourselves by forcing him out for an evening of holiday fun.

We aren't completely lame though, we did do a little celebrating on the Second of July. Adam's Aunt Ida invited us to her house for a BBQ.

Nothing says "party" like humongous marshmallows.
Which later became slimy yet satisfying s'mores!
We played on the slide...
And tested the bubbles...
...poked  people on the deck with s'more skewers...
We might have even tried to spray unsuspecting bystanders with the hose while they ate...
But mostly we enjoyed some good food with some good company on a nice day.
Thank you Ida for the fun BBQ.
