So I may not have children but I consider my four legged furry mut my child! So Thursday morning I came home and lately Stewie has gone through a small chewing phase so he has to be outside when me and Curtis are gone so when I opened the garage to let him out I saw all this pink stuff on the floor. We don't ever use the garage and our landlords still store some of there stuff in there so I didn't even know this was in there but Stewie had gotten into anti-freeze. My heart sank and I started to panic so I hurry and call Curtis he was at the fire station that day and he called the vet and they said to hurry and bring him in. I rush him in there and they have to hurry and do blood work on him to see if it got in his system cause at this point I didn't even know if he drank any or just spilled the bottle over. Come to find out the taste of anti-freeze is really sweet to dogs but it is the most toxic thing and can be very harmful and even deadly. So here I am sitting in the vets office waiting to hear and shedding a few tears. Finally she came out to tell me that the test came back and he didn't have any in his system but it might show up later but if you wait to treat it then it could cause kidney damage and can be very bad. So at this point its not shedding a few tears now I am full on bawling to the vet. So of course I tell her just to treat him for it just in case. So now they have to locate the medicine because they don't keep it in stock cause it has a short shelf life and its on a nation wide back order so they are calling everywhere to try and find some and since Stewie isn't the smallest pup in town they had to have three vials of it. So why they are doing this they have Stewie hooked up to and Iv for fluid and they actually give him charcoal cause it helps draw the anti freeze out if he did get any. So they locate the medicine down in Sandy so now me and my mom are on our way to Sandy to pick it up. We get the medicine and get it back to the vet and they have to give it to him through the Iv. So he has to have 4 doses of it and its every 12 hours. So Thursday afternoon at 3 he had it and Friday morning at 3 am I am at the animal er for his 2nd dose and so on and so on. So long story short he got all his medicine and is now doing good! It never showed that he had any in his system but better to be safe! He sure gave his mommy a scare but I am so glad he is doing better even if this is going to cost me a small fortune!! I Love You Stewie!!
