Back When It was Legal

On my second blog post ever I posted about a ride Dad, Gilbert, Andy, and I did up on Canaan Mountain. Several months earlier I had taken the same ride with some guys that had been there before and knew the way. I found some pictures I had taken (non-digital!), scanned them, and decided to put up a few.

If you look carefully, you can see the 4-wheeler coming down the hill.

Remains of the windlass that was used to lower shingles down the cliff above Canaan Ranch.

The far edge.

Off in the far distance you can see the highway between Short Creek and Apple Valley.
Plus, the scenic sewer lagoons.

This guy brought a dune buggy up!

It's too bad that these scenic views and wonderful vistas are now closed to all but the chosen few.  And my chosen few, I mean them that writes the rules!

Hiking With Barry

A few days ago Barry Glazier invited me to hike up Spring Hollow just south of Glendale.  He had secured permission from the landowner and wanted to show me an amazing little canyon just off the highway.

Of course, if you go with Barry you better be prepared to take pictures!  And why not?  We live in an amazing part of the world with wonders like this little canyon around almost every bend.

Barry and Kevin examining some of the many names scratched into the canyon's walls.  The earliest we could clearly read dated to 1909, although there was another, very faint, that looked like it was 1889!

Dancing Queens

The first of the month we were able to make a quick trip to watch the girls in a dance competition.  They are growiing up waaaay too fast!

Ruby showing off her scooter skills.

If you are ever in the Farmington area, drive on up to Aztec and try out 'Wonderful House".  Great Chinese food.

I know there is not much to this post (or others lately for that matter) but that's the way it is!

Annual Spring Ritual

What would spring be without the annual Fathers and Sons Aaronic Priesthood outing?    Ours was in Johnson Canyon again this year.  Matt was able to come with me.  He and Cassi came to town for Brandon Crosby's reception and since it was in Kanab Canyon at Angel's Landing (same place Matt and Cass had their reception) we just drove on over via Crocodile.  As usual the High Priests did a great job of dinner (dutch oven chicken and potatoes, what else?) and James Holland led a great discussion on the Aaronic Priesthood.  The Elders were in charge of breakfast and I assume it was great also, but we didn't stay the night.  Matt had to get back to Cedar and I'm not sure what my excuse was!

New Kanab Stake Presidency

The Kanab Utah Stake was reorganized on May 4, 2014.  President Johnson and his counselors Presidents Soderquist and Adair have served faithfully and well the past nine years.  I look forward to the leadership of these men in the coming years.

Mom's Flag

Meet Lloyd Laycook.  Lloyd is a retired Air Force officer and is very active in veteran affairs.  He has been instrumental in helping establish a VA home in the St. George area (Santa Clara, I think) and is currently placing a framed flag in each room of the facility.  I overheard him talking to one of my asssistants about this project the other day in the office and asked if we could do one in Mom's name.  He readily agreed and here is the result.  I think it's a nice service, both for Mom and those who served their country in the armed forces.
