Goodbye February - Hello March

Picture from a facebook post.

We may be saying goodbye to February and
 looking ahead to March, and hoping for
Spring-like weather....
But it doesn't look like spring weather will be happening
anytime soon here in Indiana.  We are expecting 6 - 8 inches of new snow
 overnight tonight.  I think the picture above is more likely what it
will look like here tomorrow.  I do believe I will declare
tomorrow a sewing/crafting day.

Happy March To All!

Hugs,
Terry

Today's Surprise...

So I hear all the giggles and chatter,
I go to the kitchen to see what's the matter...
And what to my wondering eyes should appear...
two granddaughters and one of our little goats, oh dear!!!!

                                             This is why I have gray hair, just sayin'.   LOL

This Week's Snowfall...

I couldn't resist posting some more winter pictures.
I know a lot of you are tired of winter, but I think it
is beautiful.  There is beauty in every season.
 Fall use to be my favorite, all the brilliant colors and
 the crisp air and wonderful smells, but in the past few years
winter has become my favorite.  I've been calling it the Sparkle Season
 or saying that the snowfall is God's glitter :)

 My chickens are not at all impressed with the cold, wet, white stuff...
It will take more than some water and chicken feed to
coax them out of their straw filled house.

 But the goats are loving it!!!  They have been
running and jumping and having a ball in the snow.

And then there is Gizmo...He's like, "yeah, right,
whatever....just bring me my food,
cause I'm not leaving this warm straw filled comfort"

Now we move on to the scenery around my yard

  This is looking out my sewing room window.
I have a snow awning...Love it!!!!

Stay warm and enjoy every season.
Be it weather seasons or seasons of life,
there is beauty all around us.

Yesterday's Celebration

 Yesterday was my birthday :)
And here are the beautiful flowers & cards I received.

This is the yummy chocolate cake my
mother-in-law made for me.
Notice only 1 candle...
and that's the way we are leaving it!!!!

 These flowers are from my oldest daughter and her family

And these flowers are from my 2nd daughter and her children.

And of course the embroidery machine that my wonderful
husband bought for me last week :)

I also received a birthday doughnut from one of my grandsons
and a birthday chocolate chip cookie and my favorite Monical's
salad from my oldest son and his family.  Phone calls from my other two sons,
and many other phone calls, texts and FB Birthday Wishes from family & friends.
A huge "Thank You" to everyone who made my special day
really special.  I am so Blessed :)

Today's Weather...Brrrrrr

So today started off cold but bearable.
I managed to get all the animals fed
and watered before it got windy.

Below two of the cats are playing in sun
this morning.  They seemed to be enjoying the sunshine.

Now my chickens on the other hand are
no where to be seen...I had to shovel snow from in front of
their little doorway before they would even come out to get water!!!
The goats weren't much better...they wouldn't come out of
their little house until they heard food being poured out for them.
They ran out and ate and ran right back in!!!!

Then this afternoon the wind picked up...OH MY!!!
That is blowing snow in the picture below,
 I believe the wind chill was about -10 at this point.
 By midnight that temperature will seem like a heat wave,
our actual temps are suppose to be -10 with wind chill of -25.

I love the snow, it is so very pretty, but the bitter cold temperatures
 are just too much for me.  So that is why the animals are fed and watered again
and locked in their respective homes for the night,
 and I am spending the rest of this evening
right here.....

Terry

Snow Day = Another February Finish

Today we received a bit of snow,
not nearly what I was hoping for.
It was very pretty.  I sat looking out my
 back window, and this is what I saw...

I was able to take these blocks, that I made about 3 years
ago for a group swap, and transform them into...

This bright and cheery wall hanging or table topper.

The blocks are 12" squares, with 1" sashing between them.
I ran a straight quilting stitch through the sashing, then
added a colorful button to the center of each block.
Another UFO finished!!!!

Valentine's & Birthday Gifts

Valentine's Gift
 These beautiful flowers came from my awesome husband.
He also took me out for lunch, before he had to go to work.
He truly is the love of my life, with or without the flowers.

Early Birthday Gift
I have been toying with the idea of an embroidery machine.
I had mentioned to my dear husband awhile back,
but then just kind of dropped it.

Well yesterday he gave me this little gem for my
birthday.  My birthday isn't until next Friday, but
he wanted me to have it now... gotta love him.
I am really looking forward to seeing how this little machine
and I get along.  I think tomorrow will be a good day to get to know each other.

Happy Valentine's Day,
Terry

This is my accomplishment for today.
I did this BOM (Block of the Month) several years ago.
Today I was able to get the sashing done and the
blocks all sewn together.

Now to figure out what I want to use for the backing...
Something that I can wrap around to the front that
will compliment all those blocks....

Hugs,
Terry

January Pincushion

I belong to a wonderful FaceBook Group that offers a POM...
that would be a Pincushion of the Month.
I was able to finish my January pincushion today.

Step #1

Step #2

Step #3

My Finish
I am really liking working with felted wool,
and I like embroidery, and I love Pincushions,
I think this is going to be a Great year!!!
Looking forward to seeing the design for this month :)

Another Finish

 About 2 years ago I was in group that offered a Redwork Bible Verse Block Swap.
Above are the 3 blocks I have from the swap.
They have been keeping company with my many UFOs in a tote
ever since.  Oh, they are one of my newest UFOs.
 I have some that are 10 -12 years old!!!
2015 is the year to get that UFO tote down-sized.

So these 3 blocks have now been transformed into
1 small decorative pillow  and 2 wall hangings :)

Nothing real intricate or fancy, but
I am very happy with them.

Now to visit the UFO tote and pull out my next finish.....

Hugs & Blessings,
Terry

Sewing Room Re-Do

I finally have my sewing room de-cluttered and re-arranged.
Now I feel like I can get in there and get things accomplished.
Sew, here is what it looks like now.
 This corner is where I can sit and do handwork
and enjoy the fireplace in the winter months.
Sewing machine sits facing out the window
where I can also watch my cats, goats, chickens...
and the occasional deer, raccoons, rabbits and other backyard visitors.

 The cabinet in the corner keeps all the quilts and afghans
that have been made by family members. They go back as far
as my great grandmothers and as recent as my daughter.

 The three cabinets keep my fabric stash a bit of a secret.
Well so does the skirt on  my cutting table.  There just might be
 a tote or two of fabric...and a tote or two of UFOs under that skirt.
Oh, and the boxes sitting here and there, they could have some
 kits and UFOs in them.  And that trunk in the picture below...
it probably has some fleece and flannel in it.  LOL

I'm ready to get serious about get things done in this room now.
Hopefully I will be sharing many projects from here very soon.

Happy Stitching,
Terry

February - Whirlwind Start....

February has gotten off on a "fast lane" start... and anyone who knows me very well at all knows I like a little slower pace in my life.  I don't mind being busy but it needs to be spread out, LOL
We have already celebrated 3 Birthdays this month and we have several more to go!!!  Been to 3 doctors appointments, and I have completed all my February paper crafting and quilt blocks swaps and commitments for February.  Looking at my calendar, I only see two more appointments this month...hoping to keep it that way :)  So here are some pictures of what I've done so far this month:

My son's 40th Birthday was on the 7th.  His daughter's Birthday was on the 8th.
First picture is my son and granddaughter, they had a shared party day.

Everyone had a great time.  Hard to believe my son is 40
 much less that he has a daughter that turned 13...WOW!!!
Where does the time go?

Grandson's 3rd Birthday was on the 9th.

He had a great time, loves his new ride.

*******************************************************

In the sewing room, I made the following quilt blocks for a Quilt group I am in that makes quilts for various charities.

The top 3 blocks are for a "Comfort Quilt",
a lady in the group had a family member pass away,
she will be receiving a quilt of Hearts with many prayers for her and her family.

The bottom 4 blocks are for a quilt that will be
assembled and given to a women's shelter.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moving into the Paper Craft room, I was able to complete these items.
 Above are the recipe cards I've made for a swap
 Here are some scrapbook Elements for a swap.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I love doing these swaps keeps me busy and keeps the creative juices flowing.  I am hoping that since I have all my February commitments finished that I can work on some of my Unfinished Sewing items...I have a tote full, from pillows to wall hangings to twin size quilts.  I will be sharing those later this week in their various stages.
Hugs & Blessings,
Terry
