Wow. Long Time. We are not dead.

Ok so I doubt anyone even checks my blog anymore.  I don't even get on here.  Thanks Pinterest.  It is more than Pinterest really but I do check Pinterest more than my email. :)
This last 6 months has been a wonderful busy challenging time.  We've decided to homeschool for a season and I didn't have spare time before I started doing that.  I'm loving it and not making bread as often.  I love all the bloggers out there who are homeschooling and giving me ideas.  I've got lots more growing and figuring and experimenting to do but this process has been all in all just what I needed.  Hopefully my children need this as well and for those occasional days when I've heard, "This is the best day ever!" I'll try to remain calm when I get told my daughter wants to die.  We're in this together and I don't give up easy.
Now we are officially on the board for 2012.  We'll see just how long it takes me to make a return voyage to the posting page.  Toodles.

Kid-isms

So I have been horrible at posting on the blog.  Sitting down to do things has always been rough on me because I don't sit down well.  I even stand to sew and scrapbook a lot.  However I am still alive and very much a busy mom.  Come and visit and I'm sure I'll share something out of my garden - my garden is more spotless than my house at present.  I use weeding in the morning as my solace time since I'm the only early riser in the house.  :)
Anyway - my kids say some funny stuff as children do and this is a great place to record it.  I do actually keep a journal for each of my kids - they each have a composition notebook and I try to record their latest stuff at least 1x every month - one day they will be lucky recipients of this written treasure but I've got lots more pages to go before that happens.
I think Cora takes the cake with the random things she says.  Eric calls them "Coraisms" because they are definitely HER original thoughts.  Today for instance - "Mommy sometimes I just lose my brain and I really need to try to keep it with my head."  Now that I know what happens I'll work on the patience and understanding part.
Jodi the other day was looking at the huge wall map of the United States and she said, "Texas and Alaska must love each other - they are both big."  The logic of a child somehow grows out of us.  Its a shame, lots of us could use a bit more of that.
With Marcus its mostly just pulling up his shirt sleeves and saying, "Wanna see my muscles?"  Thanks to his Uncle Matt for that.  Really Matt he is your little clone in sooo many ways.
Well there you have it.  The Haffners are still alive and well!

Freeze Dried Safety

Okay so this is not a post about safely consuming freeze dried food - its a promo for my brother's new website
He is selling just what it sounds like, freeze dried foods.  There are fruits, veggies, even meat and desserts.  They are all packaged with a 25 year shelf life and if its in your budget this stuff is a great way to "diversify" your food storage.  I'm all about the food storage.  If you don't have some GET SOME. Oh sorry was I shouting?  I feel strongly about this.  Especially after the tragedy in Japan (my kids pray for those people every night!) it solidified my resolve to be as prepared for the future as I can be.  My basement is a beautiful thing with all my jars of stuff and the other foods I've been collecting.  It makes me happy.  This brother also said once that if there was ever an emergency he knew where he wanted to be stranded.  That made me happy too.  Well check out his website.  Window shopping has always been free.
By the way if you like what you see please "like" him on Facebook.  This is a competition for one of his classes at BYU as well as a business venture.  He's been selling freeze dried foods with a company called Daily Bread so he is no novice.

V is for Valentines

I do a preschool playgroup with some friends.  We meet once a week and focus on a different letter each week. The kids love it and it has been quite a fun thing for me too.  If you need an opportunity to meet other moms... host something!  Anything you want!  1 - its gets you to clean your house (I always need some sort of reason!) 2 - there is something you can hold over your children's heads  3 - its winter and who doesn't need an excuse to get out of the house?  4 - It means you can make cute crafts, sing silly songs, eat good snacks and best of all just hang out and talk to other moms.
This weeks rundown...
Using a heart shaped bean bag the kids are going to play "Boolah Boolah."  The bean bag will be hidden by a "V" object and the kids will take turns finding the different "V" things as we sing louder or softer when they get closer or farther from the bean bag.

We'll practice some zip zag lines to get them ready for writing the letter V and we'll use some Popsicle sticks as well as markers and paper to make the letters.

Since its Valentines Day they will be making some cute monster valentines to feed the monster valentine box.  See THIS link for the box idea.  The monsters are from letteringdelights.com
We'll be singing songs too and making another craft but my friend is in charge of those sections this month so if you want song and craft ideas you'll have to wait until next month when I am in charge.
Happy Valentines!
