Long Time. We are not dead.Ok so I doubt anyone even checks my blog anymore. I don't even get on here. Thanks Pinterest. It is more than Pinterest really but I do check Pinterest more than my email. :)
This last 6 months has been a wonderful busy challenging time. We've decided to homeschool for a season and I didn't have spare time before I started doing that. I'm loving it and not making bread as often. I love all the bloggers out there who are homeschooling and giving me ideas. I've got lots more growing and figuring and experimenting to do but this process has been all in all just what I needed. Hopefully my children need this as well and for those occasional days when I've heard, "This is the best day ever!" I'll try to remain calm when I get told my daughter wants to die. We're in this together and I don't give up easy.
Now we are officially on the board for 2012. We'll see just how long it takes me to make a return voyage to the posting page. Toodles. Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-81011054478017853162011-06-23T20:36:00.000-05:002011-06-23T20:36:54.181-05:00Kid-ismsSo I have been horrible at posting on the blog. Sitting down to do things has always been rough on me because I don't sit down well. I even stand to sew and scrapbook a lot. However I am still alive and very much a busy mom. Come and visit and I'm sure I'll share something out of my garden - my garden is more spotless than my house at present. I use weeding in the morning as my solace time since I'm the only early riser in the house. :)
Anyway - my kids say some funny stuff as children do and this is a great place to record it. I do actually keep a journal for each of my kids - they each have a composition notebook and I try to record their latest stuff at least 1x every month - one day they will be lucky recipients of this written treasure but I've got lots more pages to go before that happens.
I think Cora takes the cake with the random things she says. Eric calls them "Coraisms" because they are definitely HER original thoughts. Today for instance - "Mommy sometimes I just lose my brain and I really need to try to keep it with my head." Now that I know what happens I'll work on the patience and understanding part.
Jodi the other day was looking at the huge wall map of the United States and she said, "Texas and Alaska must love each other - they are both big." The logic of a child somehow grows out of us. Its a shame, lots of us could use a bit more of that.
With Marcus its mostly just pulling up his shirt sleeves and saying, "Wanna see my muscles?" Thanks to his Uncle Matt for that. Really Matt he is your little clone in sooo many ways.
Well there you have it. The Haffners are still alive and well! Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-71842265924843652902011-06-06T13:25:00.001-05:002011-06-06T13:25:38.281-05:00

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-53699966806335904272011-03-17T20:53:00.001-05:002011-03-17T20:58:33.619-05:00Freeze Dried SafetyOkay so this is not a post about safely consuming freeze dried food - its a promo for my brother's new website

freezedriedsafety.com
He is selling just what it sounds like, freeze dried foods. There are fruits, veggies, even meat and desserts. They are all packaged with a 25 year shelf life and if its in your budget this stuff is a great way to "diversify" your food storage. I'm all about the food storage. If you don't have some GET SOME. Oh sorry was I shouting? I feel strongly about this. Especially after the tragedy in Japan (my kids pray for those people every night!) it solidified my resolve to be as prepared for the future as I can be. My basement is a beautiful thing with all my jars of stuff and the other foods I've been collecting. It makes me happy. This brother also said once that if there was ever an emergency he knew where he wanted to be stranded. That made me happy too. Well check out his website. Window shopping has always been free.
By the way if you like what you see please "like" him on Facebook. This is a competition for one of his classes at BYU as well as a business venture. He's been selling freeze dried foods with a company called Daily Bread so he is no novice.Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-82650418527055132282011-02-08T09:22:00.000-05:002011-02-08T09:22:52.821-05:00V is for ValentinesI do a preschool playgroup with some friends. We meet once a week and focus on a different letter each week. The kids love it and it has been quite a fun thing for me too. If you need an opportunity to meet other moms... host something! Anything you want! 1 - its gets you to clean your house (I always need some sort of reason!) 2 - there is something you can hold over your children's heads 3 - its winter and who doesn't need an excuse to get out of the house? 4 - It means you can make cute crafts, sing silly songs, eat good snacks and best of all just hang out and talk to other moms.
This weeks rundown...
Using a heart shaped bean bag the kids are going to play "Boolah Boolah." The bean bag will be hidden by a "V" object and the kids will take turns finding the different "V" things as we sing louder or softer when they get closer or farther from the bean bag.

We'll practice some zip zag lines to get them ready for writing the letter V and we'll use some Popsicle sticks as well as markers and paper to make the letters.

Since its Valentines Day they will be making some cute monster valentines to feed the monster valentine box. See THIS link for the box idea. The monsters are from letteringdelights.com
We'll be singing songs too and making another craft but my friend is in charge of those sections this month so if you want song and craft ideas you'll have to wait until next month when I am in charge.
Happy Valentines!Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-47863533443023341652010-12-25T21:37:00.000-05:002010-12-25T21:37:45.208-05:00Merry Christmas!According to one very excited 6 year old, "This is the BEST Christmas EVER!" It has been such a fun day. Really its been a wonderful Christmas day! There are many of you we wish we could have seen today to share in the fun and joy of this day but our long distance love and best wishes will have to do for now. Love to you all on this most wonderful day of celebration! We will post pictures of our festivities soon! Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-80720105528110965452010-11-14T12:36:00.001-05:002010-11-14T12:37:03.865-05:00The LatestI need to make sure I post in November and here is "the latest"
Eric's latest news...he is gearing up to break 20 min in a 5K road race this month.
Lesley's latest news...she is loving coupons - 12 cents a can for Cambell's soup yesterday!
Jodi's latest news...she can now wish for 2 front teeth for Christmas and she's on the brink of reading.
Cora's latest news...she loves her home preschool group and can write almost all her letters!
Marcus' latest news...he is slowly earning back his matchbox cars as he uses the toilet when he's supposed to!
Jimmy's latest news...he coos and smiles and is just generally the best baby ever.
There you have the Haffners in a nutshell as of late. Happy Thanksgiving!Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-28752969699120569442010-10-19T15:45:00.000-05:002010-10-19T15:45:14.548-05:00Genious Birthday PresentThe girls got invited to a neighbor boy's birthday party this past weekend. I almost always make gifts because there are so many ideas out there but with this one I was at a loss. I couldn't think of something he might need or even really want that was in my non-existent birthday present budget until...this. Squeaky Clean Monster Puke. Brilliant. I really wish I had taken a picture but since I finished the gift 10 min after the party started we were a bit rushed. I uploaded the labels to Scribd but the font, Monster AG, did not transfer. It's the Monster's Inc. font and it looked really cute with the eyeball letters but if you want to copy me you'll have to make your own.
We included a neon green bath sponge, and chocolate eyeballs. Inside the bottle of "puke" we put several plastic snakes. I wanted eyeballs but could not find them. It got some great laughs at the birthday party. I think I'll make this again - maybe even send some to the nephews I have who could use some scrubbing and puke. Anyone have any great little boy birthday present ideas?Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-9787592272630536352010-09-27T20:46:00.001-05:002010-11-14T16:20:09.065-05:00My baby is 6 years old!

Well my 1st baby is 6 years old today! What an excited birthday girl she was too. She made sure everyone we talked to at church on Sunday knew it was her birthday the next day and she even made sure to tell me that if I forgot to tell her happy birthday she would forgive me. What a generous loving little spirit she's got. Pictures to come of her "waterlemon" cake and the silly band rings cupcakes we took to her class. We love our Jodi bug!Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-47054841469194354402010-09-11T08:22:00.001-05:002010-09-11T08:22:56.729-05:00

Wide Awake! He usually is from about 9-midnight and I like to blame my night owl husband for that but its most likely my fault too. Perhaps if during pregnancy I would sit down sometime during the day my babies might think its okay to wake up. I really can't complain though because even when he is awake he doesn't make hardly a peep. He is such a good baby. His siblings are quite the fans too. Patrick Henry gave a pretty famous speech on this day in 1775. Read the whole thing. It is quite a speech and quite ironic that ObamaCare was signed today.Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-38933387392232840142010-03-03T15:47:00.000-05:002010-03-03T15:47:54.773-05:00Non Media Travel IdeasMy sister-in-law Kristin called me today and asked for some travel ides. They are moving cross country in a month and have a 2 yr old and a 5 month old. I had some ideas for her from our last summer trek out to WA but I'm always up for new ideas. So ladies I know there are plenty of you out there who have to travel cross country to visit family and I want your little travel gems. I want ideas that are non-tech as much as possible. Maybe you have a good sing-a-long CD that doesn't drive parents crazy or something like that but plug in the DVD player isn't quite what I'm looking for. I know it has it uses but I prefer it as a last resort or at least for the trip home when all other mental mom powers are exhausted. I'll compile your ideas in another post and we'll see how much fun we can have keeping our children (and ourselves) happy while we hit the road. Thanks for your help!Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-60807307523746086162010-02-27T22:43:00.000-05:002010-02-27T22:43:46.219-05:0030 is the new 20 right? That is what Eric is hoping! Today is his birthday! Happy Birthday deary. I made him his cake but it was a crazy hectic day and so I never made the frosting (German chocolate for his German chocolate cake which is what he wants every year) and cake without frosting is like not wearing clothes - Don't do it! We'll be singing and blowing out candles tomorrow. Sorry! The kids were excited to give Daddy his presents and Mommy's present was a stay at a bed and breakfast. AWESOME! I've never stayed in one before and man am I hooked now. Who wants to sponsor us to check out all the ones in our area? Here is their website. Super cute place and such nice owners! http://mckenziehousebnb.com/ Anyway, Eric I'm so glad I get to be around as you get older 'cuz I think you are pretty great and pretty much my bestest friend. Sure love ya! Happy 30th!Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-2908008217473446622010-02-10T20:43:00.000-05:002010-02-10T20:43:27.634-05:00Bye Bye MarleyI am sadly lacking a picture of Marley, our 1992 Ford Aerostar. She is black and cost us $800 2 years ago. I really am proud of that van, it never needed any major repairs either, a patched tire here and an oil change there and by golly she got us where we needed to go. Granted she had some problems and more than once I had people give me looks when I fired her up wondering if I'd make it home. She had one duct tape window, a front passenger door only opened from the outside, not much in the way of AC, some trouble purring (vaahvoom, vaahvoom, vaahvoom, die, start her again, much better) and she didn't like to shift into gear all the time. (Did I miss anything?) It usually happened when I was backing out of the driveway putting it into drive and nothin' doin'. Well despite all these little set backs I was admittedly prideful of my ugly van. My dad (of all people) also told Eric once he was impressed I put up with the van for so long. Well when we bought it the goal was for it to last a mission, or 2 years, and it has done just that. I'm sure there was help from heaven to keep her going.
Her name is Marley and that came from Jodi. Jodi pulls names out of her hat for anything and everything (hence 2 previous cats were Snugly and Boofer). One day we were driving down the road and the girls yell out "Go Marley!" "Mom Marley is a super van, she can beat all the other cars. Go Marley!" Well the girls were right, she is a super van who has been donated to the local homeless shelter. She went away today and we only shed a partial tear. She is being replaced (hurray!) but not forgotten. So long and thanks a bundle Marley.Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-5482036739021201852010-01-20T19:14:00.000-05:002010-01-20T19:14:48.918-05:00Tabernacle SoupWhat is "tabernacle soup" you might be asking yourself? I found out just what that concoction is this afternoon. I was in my little get dinner done bubble, very focused on the task at hand, when Cora came down and got a fork out of the drawer. "What are you doing Cora?" "I'm making tabernacle soup and I need to mix it up." A quizzical look from Mother is all she got until...Later that same afternoon (10 min tops) Jodi comes running in the kitchen, "Mom Cora is in trouble she is making a mess and you need to come right now!" My mom sense must be turned off today because I was still thinking Okay Okay I'm coming. Here's Jodi's response, "Mom run I'm right behind you." Okay I'll move a bit faster. Here is what I find: 2 little people and an orange mass taking over the bathroom floor. Its bubbling out over the cottage cheese container and spreading towards the carpet. Come to find out "tabernacle soup" is an entire box of baking soda, an entire container of Tang, vinegar and water -all mixed thoroughly with a fork. No wonder it was bubbling and expanding over the floor. Its a recipe using all the cleaning supplies Mom keeps under the bathroom sink and at least it didn't smell bad. To Cora's benefit she had no idea what that mixture would do. I started smiling after the mess was mostly cleaned up. I called Eric from our room, "Where were you on this one pal?" He was doing homework. Okay I'll give it to him. Then I had to fess up that Cora just came down to get a fork for creating her concoction. He said, "Haven't you ever read Calvin and Hobbes? You just let her go back upstairs?" The laughter started. Hope it has for you too. Happy parenting!Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-9808767610860160002010-01-05T06:24:00.000-05:002010-01-05T06:24:37.917-05:00End of AdventThe last of the nativities. I kind of fell off the blogger planet that last part of December - sitting at the computer was not one of those luxuries I allowed myself I suppose. Anyway here is a list of some of the last few advent things we did. This is more of a family journal entry than anything else so if you're interested flag this entry fro next year.
- Over the river and through the woods to Grandmothers house we go (we really did go to the house Grandma grew up in)
- Game night at Grandma's
- Wrapping secret Santa presents
- Secret Santa deliveries
-Act out the Nativity
-Give Jesus his birthday presents (he has a stocking and we write down his gifts and put them in the stocking Christmas morning)
- Play in the snow day
- Early morning special surprise - we took the kids at 7 a.m. to pick up the newest family member Zoey, (that's how Jodi spelled it) a two year old beagle. The kids were excited! Jodi had been asking Santa for a puppy so Mom and Dad delivered. So far mostly good.

Well we had a great Christmas holiday. We got to see cousins, aunts, uncles, and even Both sets of Grandparents. It was great! The kids were used to having Daddy home every day so they are asking where he is and saying they want him home right now. It was really nice to have so much family time together - that is one of the best things about Christmas.Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7132591876567989125.post-78822997399282144482009-12-16T15:57:00.000-05:002009-12-16T15:57:47.992-05:00Make the Car Go CrazyEric remembers this from his childhood. The car would swerve back and forth, seem to turn without warning or some other such craziness. He wanted our van to go crazy and wind up somewhere we could have a yummy breakfast. Good idea except Jodi found out we were going for breakfast and when we said, "Not McDonald's!" there was meltdown and hiding behind the couch in tear gushing disappointment. Well that saved us $40 at a sit down restaurant dear, thanks. No, actually we made a compromise: you can be happy and go where the crazy car goes or you can stay home. We went to breakfast. Smart girl. None of us have eaten since then either. Granma's House of Pancakes has HUGE portions - I'm so glad I'm not counting calories or watching my weight! (can you hear the sarcasm?) It was a lot of fun anyway. I love that you can count on American's to have a great breakfast! I'm comparing the breakfast options they have in Europe which are frankly downright dismal. Eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast, pancakes, crepes, omelets, hash browns, fruit, whipped cream , orange juice, chocolate milk, hot chocolate - this was just at our table - the menu had so many more options. Yummy! Sorry we forgot the camera or I would have a picture of Marcus' adorable Mickey Mouse pancake.Indiana Haffnershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13083618280227757050noreply@blogger.com0
