thankful thursday

i love this quilt...i can't wait to have one made! (one day)

Um...does this need an explanation?

cute.cute.cute.

makes my heart sing!

i have a slight obssesion with dishes... i'll have to do a post one day with all the beautiful photos i've collected!

this makes me want to have a party.

maybe i could have this for a birthday cake this year... lol yeah right!
i love pretty packages. this paper defiantly fits the bill.

when i am a super successful event florist, i shall meet with my clients in suits like this. On second thought, maybe if i dressed like that now, i would be more successful? hmmmm

i think she is going to lunch with friends from college...?

when i have a formal party, don't be surprised if you find me in something like this!

this one fits in the category, i'd love to but probably never could!

i might even have worn it with this skirt.

and these shoes. (they're Dior, who would've guessed?!)

I am thankful for beautiful, cool, artistic & random things this week!
And now you understand why my blog is called My Random Life! You might also have a little more insight to my brain function, I'm bouncing from one thing to another all day, every day!!

twenty-four things

I came across this idea of sharing 16 things about yourself on a couple of blogs this week – if you do this exercise, it gets you to acknowledge & appreciate some of the things that make you YOU.

You are unlike any other person on the planet, & I think that we should all take the time to focus on & celebrate the qualities that make us unique, even if we think that some of our qualities are less than desirable. That having been said, here are 24 things (one for each day in this month) that make me ME (the good, the bad, and the ugly!)

1. I want a soda fountain in my house. Barqs Root Beer, Dr. Pepper, Coke, Cherry Coke, Strawberry & Ginger Ale would be on said tap!
2. I really, really, really want to take sewing lessons.
3. I've never been on a cruise.
4. I wonder what kind of mom I would be. A lot.
5. When Clint & I met online, my screen name was SassyTexan. (still love it to this day!)
6. I enjoy being near water. I get very distracted by lakes, rivers, fountains, the ocean...
7. I LOVE mexican food, pizza & jelly beans. I could eat them only for the rest of my life & be perfectly content.
8. I feel very confident in my artistic abilities, however the thought of judgment on them really, really freaks me out. I would love to show Heather Miner to the world, but it scares me too much, still.
9. Clint & I collect magnets from every place we travel. We're waiting to display them in some kind of really cool art project! We also save all of our movie tickets & fortunes (from cookies) for the same purpose!
10. I usually feel disappointed on my birthday. This is the one day of the year where I want to be noticed, but I never get the level of attention that I want deep down inside. (no offense to anyone, I'm just bein' honest lol!)
11. I HATE talking on the phone... nothing against anyone, I just get distracted by everything around me & feel really bad that I don't pay enough attention. But I love to text!
12. I have an irrational fear (like should have been in counseling years ago for it irrational) of bridges or any other structure that is high above water. I'm afraid it will break & I'll drown in the water & no one will ever find me. But I think even more I'm afraid of the fall.
13. I would secretly (guess not so much anymore) like to move away for a few years & live in North or South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee or Seattle. I often imagine how my life might be a little more what I'd like in one of those places.
14. I know TONS of lyrics from songs from the 80s. I know, you’re probably thinking – I do too – but seriously, I know tons, TONS of lyrics. That's what happens when you work at a flower shop in college for an owner who was a teenager in the 80's.
15. Sometimes I can be so concentrated on something that I am totally in another place. I won't hear anything at all, people will try to talk to me & I won't even hear them or recognize they are standing there, which is bad because then I appear rude. People have scared me before because they'll come up & nudge me & I'll do a little jump from fright because I won't know they are there. LOL
16. Clint & I have to flip a coin most of the time when we want to go out to dinner because neither of us wants to make the decision!
17. I love buying presents for people. LOVE IT! I always try & find the best, most perfect present possible. It gives me so much joy to see them unwrap it & love, wear it, play with it, use it, whatever. Nothing is better than that. I wish I had the money to just buy random gifts all the time, just because.
18. I really enjoy helping people. I feel honored when people come to me for help.
19. I wish I were brave enough to wear half the outfit ideas I have in my head, I would always look so cute! But it's a little out there & I fear judgment.
20. I create a monthly menu for dinner. It helps me not get a rut of making the same thing week after week & actually buy what we need at the market.
21. I would love to be pampered all day everyday. Pedis & manis, massages, someone to do my hair & make-up, make me fabulous meals & drive me around.
22. I admire people who make their dreams into realities. I wish I had the drive to do the same.
23. I take my shoes off all over the house & leave them there for days, or longer. I still can't figure out why!
24. If I could work on projects all day long everyday I would. And I would be 100% content to create.

23 January 2009

fabulous friday

If I lived in a loft in Savannah, Georgia I'm pretty certain this is what my bedroom would look like!
Can't be sure though, maybe I'll know for sure once I've traveled there. Until then, I'll keep day dreaming!

change is inevitable

That is the reality of life & so as I learn to adapt & welcome change, I hope I can be open minded, giving every person a fair shot at proving to me that they can bring change for the positive.

I wanted to post some of my favorite images from yesterday's presidential inauguration as part of my history, because it is something I witnessed & something I am interested in. I am anxious to see how our country will change in the next 4 years. Yesterday was the start of that change.

After President Obama took oath

This is my favorite photo from yesterday, they were on their way to the helicopter to say a final goodbye. It's the closing of one door & the opening of another. I loved first lady Laura Bush, I look forward to learning more about first lady Michelle Obama.

let freedom ring

Today, as we honor & celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. I feel grateful at the strides we have made as a nation. I believe he was a man inspired of God, & that he helped bring much unity into our nation. He must have understood that we all truly are children of God, brothers & sisters.

As I look back at the history of the civil rights movement, I am amazed. I can't even begin to understand the racism that occurred during that time.
Growing up in the south I saw my fair share of it, I remember thinking as a kid how glad I was that I did not share the same feelings as a lot of people I encountered. I believe whole heartedly that we not only in our beloved nation, but throughout the world should have respect for one another & for the life experiences we've all encountered.

I like Dr. King, dream of a day when :

"... every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

This is our hope. This is the faith that I go back to the South with. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

This will be the day when all of God's children will be able to sing with a new meaning,

"My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrim's pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring."

And if America is to be a great nation this must become true.

So let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire.

Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York.

Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania!

Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado!

Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California!

But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia!

Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee!

Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi.

From every mountainside, let freedom ring.

And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

On this day, It is my hope that we can see how far we've come, yet realize how far we have to go!

sunbeam

In Texas, there is a wonderful bread company called Sunbeam. It's family favorite. To me, it is the BEST bread in the whole world & I'm totally bummed every time I go to make a sandwich that I don't have any of it to use.

On the add above it says "more energy", well I wish I had that to deal with the Sunbeam class I teach at church... I definitely need MORE ENERGY when dealing with these kids. I am getting too old! I'm already wishing for nap & haven't even left for church yet! lol

Happy Sunday!

thankful thursday

It has been a good week, I am thankful for growth & for change.

Allow Events to Change You: You have to be willing to grow.
Growth is different from something that happens to you.
You produce it.
You live it.
The prerequisites for growth:
the openness to experience events and the willingness to be changed by them.

chop chop

I finally chopped my hair! I absolutely love it! I am a short hair girl at heart but I haven't made time to get it cut in quite some time so I'm totally thrilled I finally did it. I have the best hair girl in the world & I'm so happy she made my hair match my personality again!

11 January 2009

i am one of "those" aunts

{enjoying his post game snack}

Oh heck yes I am!!! This past week we went to Tyler's first "real" soccer game. I still can't figure out why they don't wear "real" uniforms but that's neither here nor there! Those little kids were totally cracking us up because they so didn't have a clue what they were supposed to be doing, the other team even went to the wrong net to score the first time! I sounded like a deranged crazy person yelling from the sidelines!!! I was yelling out which direction to go, to go faster, to kick the ball harder & so on!

I didn't even realize I was doing it until Burke, Tyler's dad (my brother in law) was like, Dude Heather you're not going to be one of those parents are you?? I then realized what I was doing. We all laughed & laughed, maybe I've been around Clint's Dad a little to much, he is the best to watch sports with because he is a riot. I toned it down a few notches & had a seriously great time! Tyler even made the first goal for his team! Go Mr. T! I'm totally looking forward to the next game this week!!

sayonara nursery; hallo primary

In my church we are asked to serve in various areas of the church. Clint & I have been serving in nursery. That means for 2 hours every Sunday we were in charge of 10-12 children from the ages of 18 months to 3 years old. We teach them a little lesson, have snack time, play time & singing time. It's been a wild ride! We were told a couple of weeks ago it was time for new teachers starting in January & they would no longer need our assistance in nursery!

I was super excited for about 5 seconds until I was asked to serve in primary. I was asked to co-teach a 3 year old class with 2 other women. Last week was i
nteresting to say the least! I hope I learn to like doing this or I fear I'll be stuck doing it forever!!! Here are a couple of photos we snapped of our lovely little nursery in their Christmas Finest. We are missing a few kiddos but, they are who we nurtured, taught, laughed at & with, & grew to love!

-Clint
-my sisters
-friends near & far
-quiet moments
-music
-the ability to create

a miner first

Clint's family is a hiking family! I knew this walking into our marriage, but never really gave it much thought. I have been around for 6 years now & not once in that time frame have I ever even entertained the idea of going with them. It's just not my cup of tea.

Let me give you a little bit of background before you say anything! My family is not a hiking family. We're not really an outdoorsy family! You try being outdoors in the nasty Texas humidity or better yet dealing with all the bugs. I have however gone on lots of hikes throughout my life with my church group & friends. Not once in those times did I ever enjoy them, much less want to do any more.

So, when I met Clint & his family, I just decided from day one that I would never be a part of the whole hikeing thing...Until this year!

I decided that since my word for 2009 is CHANGE, than what better of a change could I make then to join them on the New Year's Day hike. So, I put all my negative past experience behind me, put on my comfy shoes, filled up the water bottle (which we forgot!) & charged my camera battery (I did not want to miss this monumental moment!).

We had a nice time (even if we did get off course the first go around, it wasn't to bad!) & the weather was wonderful. It was a nice change & I'm really glad I decided to be a part of it. It was fun having Tyson there because he was even slower than I was!! He set his own pace & wasn't hurrying for anyone!

Now, with that said, I can't guarantee I'll go on ALL the hikes, but I do promise to make a token appearance a couple times a year!!

After the hike Brad & Meg had to take off & we headed back to Mesa & dropped Amy off & then went had a nice lunch with Clint's parents (thanks!), it was a good day!
