Book Review: Lightning Thief

I recently read Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. This book is about a 12 year old boy named Percy Jackson who has ADHD and has been expelled a school every year of his life. But the reason for him getting in trouble can never be explained (like the man who stalked him on the play ground that only had one eye on the middle of his forehead.) Every year something peculiar has happened to him. This year, it is when his algebra teacher sprouts wings and claws out of her and tries to kill him. In a quick paced turn of events, Percy looses his mother, who he believes is his only living parent. He later finds out that his long lost father is actually Poseidon, god of the water. Percy is sent to camp Half-Blood where all of the other children who have one mortal parent and a god or goddess parent live. When Percy discovers his father is accused of stealing Zeus' Magic Lightning bolt he must go on a quest to the underworld to return Zeus' lightning bolt, fight mythical monsters, and clear his family name. I really liked this face paced story and it kept me on the edge of my chair the whole time. This book refers to a lot of Greek mythology and is filled with action and comedy. This was a great book.
