Happy (Belated) Birthday Skyler!

So, we were so busy partying with Skyler on the 26th I didn't get the chance to wish him happy 2nd birthday on the blog. E, Grandma and I popped down for a quick weekend to celebrate the momentous occasion. (I promise Grandma was there she's just taking all the pics.) Sklyer had one rocking party and Ellis and I had a blast jump, jumping away with him at the Jump Zone. Here we are at the bottom of a huge inflatable slide.

Skyler had the most delicious Yo Gabba, Gabba cake that you can see both boys enjoyed. It was quite tasty. Bauer, agreed so much that he finished it off when we weren't looking. He is one smart doggie. I was fortunate, I ate 2 pieces and got my share first though :)
We followed up that fabulous party with another one at the park. The menu was Skyler's choosing: Chicken Mcnuggets, french fries and pop. You can see from Ellis' cheeks that quite agreed with him.
Bren and Ally graciously put us up. Their house was so prettily decorated for Christmas and they even had my favorite, white cheddar popcorn, plus a comfy bed. Thanks guys!
Here Ellis is helping Skyler to get quieted down for bedtime. The boys thought a little wrestling and body slamming was the best way to get settled down.
Flying was not our favorite part of the trip (a lot of screaming) but it was well worth it. Also, considering Ellis needed to get up at 2:45am our time for the flight home he did pretty well (see pic of him in his PJ's with clothes underneath:) I dressed him the night before so all we had to do was unzip him at the airport. Mom thought is was goofy but I didn't want to wrangle him into clothes at that hour! Thanks again guys for such a fun birthday trip and happy 2nd Skyler!

Happy Birthday Allyson!

It's not like a cool cricket sign but here is our version of a birthday sign Allyson. Happy 28th! We love you. Steve, Tessa, Brighton, Fletcher, Bennon and Ellis
(Not pictured are Ellis who is sleeping off his weekend of fun with Sklyer, Tessa who was having a bad hair moment and Steve taking the pic:)

Christmas and Great Gramma's Pillows

Great Gramma Bateman made some super neat pillow slips for our family. Here is a video clip of the Watson kid's saying thank you to her for them. GG Bateman always puts lots of time and thought into her kind presents.
Christmas was truly fun with the little Watsons.
My twin grandsons are certainly not identical - each is his own person.
Here is an interesting experience that shows the difference between them. Ben and Fletch each got a Mr. Potato Head toy as a gift. On Saturday morning I had occasion to play with them and their Mr. Potato Heads. Fletch was very orderly about putting Mr. Potato’s eyes, ears and feet all in the right locations. Ben on the other hand had a very different appearance to his toy. Mr. Potato Head had feet for a nose, an arm for an ear, eyes for a mouth, etc. He was laughing and thinking this great fun while Fletcher raised his eyebrows and wondered how the poor guy was ever going to be able to see or talk with such unorganized anatomy!

Christmas for the Florida Fletchers

This week has presented with lots of challenges, but none the less, we are grateful to be enjoying the season. We can't help but feel the Spirit of Christ, even through all of these challenges :) Hopefully you can laugh with us as we describe the most interesting last three days.

-On the 23rd, Skyler lost his FAVORITE dog blanket in the mall. That night there was lots of crying as we tried to get him to sleep. I searched the house, car, mall and my mother's home for hours until I finally called it quits around 1am.

- On the 24th, Skyler greeted us at his bedroom door .... This was a HUGE surprise as he has never climed out of his crib before!!! Time for a toddler bed we decided .... we tried to put it off for as long as possible, even though our pediatrician has been recommending it for the last year. Apparently his dog blanket was the calming influence (like the good angel on his shoulder), keeping him in line while we weren't there to tell him no!

- After lots of fervent prayer and requests for a Christmas miracle, we started our Christmas Eve morning searching for Skyler's dog blanket for hours ... NO LUCK. We then bought other blankets to try and replace doggie, but no luck. Bren jokes that Skyler appears to be getting along fine, but his mommy is torn up. (a note - can you get PTSD from your son loosing his favorite blanket?) It is so sad to see him ask for and reach for something that you cannot give to him!!!!!

- We then put together the bed rail for the new BIG BOY BED .... what a joke those things are ... the first one we got was so difficult to put together we had to take it back and the second one did not fit. Of course that was the night that all the stores closed at 7pm!!!! That night we put Skyler to bed in an empty room, in his converted crib, without a bed rail. Well that was a mistake! It took at least half an hour for him to fall asleep ... at the door! The little guy kept rolling out of the bed onto the blankets and pillows on the floor. We finally set up the pack n play to keep him somewhat contained, praying that he could not climb out of that too! Fortunately, he stayed in that and fell back asleep after another half an hour! We have now decided to postpone the transition until after the stores re-open on the 26th.

- Christmas Eve also included the building of many toys! No one told us that Santa does not bring the toys already built!!!! A late night for mom and dad :) Here are the finished results :

- Christmas morning - the weather was warm, rainy and extremely HUMID! We woke up, finished the toy building, and went to get Skyler. We did a recreation of the nativity. This was a wonderful activity and too funny to watch Skyler put the shepherd to sleep in the manger!

Then we opened Christmas presents. Grandma and Grandpa Fletcher brought Skyler this amazing train table that started off like this when Skyler saw it -

And ended up like this by the end of the night :

My favorite line was when Brendan told Skyler that when he yanked and pulled on the pieces that it was like an earthquake for the people living in the little town! Skyler did not seem to be moved by that speach and really set the earthquake in motion.

We then went to Grandma and Grandpa Mitchell's home for dinner. What a great influence Aunt and Uncles are ... Lots of candy and even a mud pit party :

Then it was dinner time ... This is how we do dinner at the Fletcher house ... We start off with a good showing of all the food groups (or at least most) -

And then end up with something like a Corn Dog if we are lucky -

Night time for Skyler on the way home from all the fun and relaxing time for Mom and Dad while we wait for his birthday to hit in a few hours !!! What were we thinking with a December baby?

Now we are waiting for the Fletcher family to join us for some more Christmas and Birthday fun all the way from Arizona !!!!

So glad to have friends and family like you .... Enjoy the holidays :)

Thanks for the visits to San Francisco!

A highlight has been having family and friends visit us in San Francisco. We had great fun with Tiff and "the 2 Jordans" in November, Eric 2X (September and Thanksgiving) and Gramma and Grampa Bateman for Thanksgiving as well. Don't be dissuaded from vistiing just cuz our new place is even smaller than our last place - our new place is actually attached to a hotel!

Jordan, Tiff and Jordan and the famous Lombard Street which is near our place.

Gramma and Grampa Bateman on a fascinating tour of Japantown and The Fillmore which is across the street from our present apartment.

(How about this - Dad, Eric and I all in the same jackets. A great purchase at Costo!)
(Thanksgiving 2009)

Dad (in the same jacket), Tiffany and Jordan at the Pacific Ocean - 15 minutes down our street.

Skyler likes Aunt Patty

Aunt Patty (Ally's sister) knows how to get Skyler to perform for the camera. Look at this great dance sequence from the Tampa studios yesterday! Terri and I were lucky to be present for this stellar performance.

Thanks Everyone from Elder Taylor Fletcher!

I just want to say thank you sooo much for all the packages and birthday and Christmas surprises everyone. I was very surprised and pleased with all of the packages and needless to say everyone else was super surprised too! It was pretty funny at zone conference because as I tried to move all the packages around all the other elders were like what the heck!!! And I just laughed. Thanks again!

Here I am with all the packages that i received. It was hard having to return back to our house with them all, but well worth it!

And as well here is my lovely Christmas tree with all of the presents around it!

As well I put up the CHristmas countdown board and totally forgot that i still had the "Happy Halloween" banner up. Not until i was looking at it the other day did i realize what was next to it. (We all got so used to the Happy Halloween banner that we forgot about it.)

Anticipation

So way back in September I bought the boys a tool bench at the thrift. They used it primarily to make pretend sandwiches and serve them. I sold it on craigslist. I took that money and found this awesome Pottery Barn kitchen set on craigs too. Finding a blue one was no SMALL feat. There are pink ones everywhere but my budding chefs needed boy colors. Then I waited and waited and waited for their birthday. It starts in half an hour. Of course they won't be awake then.I was just up checking on them and getting the view ready for when they wake up in the morning. Brighton made the posters for their magnet board. She's excited too. I sure hope they like it. 5 is a big birthday. Happy Birthday Fletch & Ben!

You say Tomato I say Tomato

Bennon was helping me put Ellis to bed. "Mom, should I do the pacifider?" Looking at him confused I asked him to repeat that. "You know turn on the pacifider, in his room." Suddenly realizing what he was asking I was about to correct him when Fletch from his bed says, "Duh, Ben it's a human-fire."

Ellis sleeps with a humidifier in his room as white noise to drown out the sound of his siblings. We have some interesting ways of pronouncing that around here.

Gingerbread

Gingerbread House by Ben and Fletch with a little assistance from the rest of us. (I mostly ate candy as my contribution:)
Gingerbread girl by Brighton and Tessa L. with 3 times her own body weight in candy. Yum!

Watson Train

This little "Watson Train" was so cute I decided it had to be posted. Stop your video player on Ellis as he turns into view and see if you can read the message on his shirt.

Thanksgiving & Burmese cuisine anyone?

Gramma and Grampa Bateman are just like us and love to eat out at different ethnic restaurants. Last week we tried the cuisine of Burma (sumptuous food and we went back a second time), Korea (greasy), Ethiopia (spicy and made your lips tingly), and Nicaraguan (lots of plantain banana dishes).
So easy to cover the world while eating out in San Francisco BUT......the best food of all was Thanksgiving Dinner at "The Kate and Taylor Eatery" in Santa Cruz. Delicious!
(Thank you Kate and Taylor and Gramma for doing all the work and just inviting Don, Eric and I to come eat with you.)

Gramma Bateman and Don sharing a Burmese noodle dish - yummy!

Thanksgiving table at Taylor and Kate Bateman's place in Santa Cruz.

Beautiful Thanksgiving table and Geza and Eamonn helped decorate and set it up.

Yep - you would kill for those homemade pies too! Thanks Kate and Taylor for sharing your culinary skills with us - you both are master chefs.

However, with all that diversity around us, we still have yummy hamburger places nearby to enjoy. Right Eric?
(Thanx Eric for joining us for Thanksgiving. We enjoyed!)

Happy 20th Birthday Elder Taylor Fletcher

While Gramma and Grampa Bateman were visiting with us in San Francisco we made a "Happy Birthday" poster for Elder Taylor Fletcher's December 11th bday. I loved mine and Tessa's birthday wishes from Taylor so the four of us did the same for him.
(WOW - Taylor has been out for 8 1/2 months!)
