Canadian Man Killed During Police Raid Had Built Online Life Around Supporting ISIS

Aaron Driver was boarding a taxi outside his sister’s home in the small Canadian town of Strathroy, Ontario when armed law enforcement agents moved in to arrest him. Driver, 24, was known to local authorities as a prolific online supporter of Islamic State. He had previously been placed under government surveillance due to his social media postings and had received a judicial order in February banning him from use of the internet.

Acting on a tip that Canadian authorities say came from the FBI, police on Wednesday descended on the home of Driver’s sister on suspicion he was planning to carry out an imminent terrorist attack. In Driver’s possession were two explosive devices. As police approached, he detonated one device while sitting in the backseat of the taxi, before being shot. He died in the encounter, while his taxi driver escaped with minor injuries....

....The problem, that the McLaren report likely ‘leaked’ to WADA and CCES in advance, is devoid of evidence. At the press conference, McLaren said that he had evidence, but was not going to publish it. With zero evidence, the report had to refurbish Cold War memes: FSB agents emptying urine samples by moonlight and substituting them with clean urine, “through a mouse-hole”. But, most importantly, he had a Russian, who had defected to the USA and who was willing to turn on his state and tell ‘the whole truth’ about it.

The ‘Russian’, Grigory Rodchenkov, is the chief and only witness in McLaren’s Report, a report which owes a ‘tip of the hat’ to the late Colbert Report for its sophisticated use of ‘truthiness’. (Truthiness is a quality characterizing a “truth” that a person making an argument or assertion claims to know intuitively “from the gut” or because it “feels right” without regard to evidence, logic, intellectual examination, or facts. -Wikipedia)

Rodchenkov is the disgraced former head of RUSADA (Russian Anti-Doping Agency). This agency, located in Moscow, was the only WADA-accredited agency in Russia. In other words, WADA explicitly endorsed the methods, standards and authenticity of the results of that lab.

The plot of the real thriller thickens: Rodchenkov was kept on at the Russian Anti-Doping Agency, with the tacit approval of WADA, even after he was charged in 2011 by Russia with selling banned, performance-enhancing substances to his sister, for resale to athletes. She was charged, convicted and jailed in Russia in 2013. Her brother got off the charge by claiming a ‘personality disorder’. Yet, in spite of all the above, WADA kept him on.

And last but not least is Juliya Stepanova herself, who has confessed to using banned substances and to paying Rodchenkov thirty thousand rubles ($1,000US) in 2010 to conceal her positive test results. Stepanova’s husband, Vitaly Stepanov, an anti-doping agent at RUSADA 2008-2011, knew of his wife’s and Rodchenkov’s practices, but told no one until 2015. In June 2016, the Stepanovs admitted receiving help to move to the USA and $30,000US in cash from WADA. Conspiracy at work: chronology, complexity and concealment!

In other words, Rodchenkov supplied banned substances to his sister, who sold them to athletes, from whom he then took bribes, in order to conceal the evidence of their drug use. But now Rodchenkov has a new role: he is the sole supplier of uncorroborated evidence to documentary film makers in Germany and the USA, whose so-called ‘investigations’ first stoked the fires of the conspiracy and, finally, to McLaren himself. Rodchenkov, is now wanted for questioning in Russia for the crimes he has confessed to. In fact, the highest official to be implicated in the alleged systemic doping in the Russian Federation, is Rodchenkov. Yet, McLaren states repeatedly in his report that Rodchenkov is “a credible and truthful source“......

Readers of Canada’s mainstream media mock latest “Russia did it” stories

following the lead of its counterparts in the United States, media mainstream in Canada has joined the latest anti-Russia assault, this time over alleged hacking of the U.S. Democratic Party machine which is now firmly in the hands of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. We are bombarded with the message that Russian government agencies “maybe” or “surely” hacked the computer records of the Democratic National Committee.

Upon reading, we learn that the sources are anonymous hackers and speculative commentators.

The story behind this non-story is exposed well in many alternative news outlets. Nathan Robinson, the editor of Current Affairs, published a commentary on July 27 titled ‘Democrats are redbaiting like it’s 1956‘. RT.com‘s current affairs program ‘Crosstalk’ devoted its episode of August 1 to the topic.

Nathan Robinson wrote, “The issue here is not really whether the Russian government was behind the DNC hack. It’s that liberals are using the hack, plus a lot of wild, speculative theories about [Donald] Trump, to avoid substantive criticisms from both their left and right…

Former CIA Director And Hillary Supporter: "We Should Kill Russians And Iranians Covertly"

Last Friday, former deputy and acting director of the CIA, Mike Morell became the latest neocon to join the Hillary bandwagon with a NYT Op-Ed titled "I Ran the C.I.A. Now I'm Endorsing Hillary Clinton" in which he not only praised Hillary but slammed Donald Trump, as follows: "Mrs. Clinton is highly qualified to be commander in chief. I trust she will deliver on the most important duty of a president — keeping our nation safe. Second, Donald J. Trump is not only unqualified for the job, but he may well pose a threat to our national security....  In the intelligence business, we would say that Mr. Putin had recruited Mr. Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation."

What Morell, who sought to portray himself as bipartisan, did not say, is that he was an active participant in painting the Benghazi attacks as caused by YouTube video. When Hillary Clinton says 'best information provided by the intelligence community" she is referring to her man in the CIA: Michael Morell was the CIA official who crafted the "talking points" on Benghazi with the Obama White House according to his own testimony in 2014 to Congress. In emails later uncovered by Congress, CIA Director David Petraeus called the resulting talking-point language 'useless.'

What he also forgot to mention is that in 2013, he left the CIA to join a DC consultancy group with strong links to Hillary Clinton. Beacon Global Strategies, Morell's employer, is a ten-person firm whose co-founders include Philippe Reines, a senior counselor to Hillary Clinton when she ran the State Department. Reines is still her spokesman, serving in that capacity in what New York magazine calls 'a second full-time job. “And if she runs again... Reines will be onboard,” the magazine concluded in Ferbruary 2014. Meaning that Morell, as a senior official at Beacon, will also likely be part of the Clinton spin machine. ...

Ukraine-Novorossiya crisis: un-biased western point of view

In trying to analyze the Ukraine-Novorossiya crisis we must first realize and accept the true nature of the current regime in Kiev, i.e. a nazi/fascist, racist, illegal junta, appointed and installed by the US, that overthrew a democratically elected president and parliament that was recognized by UN, EU, Russia, US and so on. This is an indisputable fact, but the US and their servants, the EU, try to distort this.

But how did it get this far? Why didn´t Russia react? After all, former Ukraine (together with Belarus, Kazakhstan and some other republics) are within the Russian sphere of interest. How could Russia (the Russian leaders) not notice the preparations for a coup against the legal president Yanukovich, that started even before he was elected? And if Russia did notice them – why was there no reaction? After all, he was – and still is – the legal president. I think we will never get a real answer to those questions, unfortunately.

The main stream media in the west, in EU, is controlled by a few people and corporations that themselves, in turn, are controlled by Washington. They do not spread the truth but only the propaganda lies of their masters. Fortunately, more and more people in the EU are realizing this fact, to a great extent thanks to the internet and Russian sources such as RIA, Sputnik, Russia Today and others. Still, a lot remains to be done in the information field.

In the summer of 2014, after the Odessa-massacre, and as the Ukrainian military was attacking and killing protesting civilians all over Novorossiya and especially in the Donbass, the general sentiment in the west was prepared for a Russian intervention to save the Russians and Russian-speaking Ukrainians that were against the “Maidan-coup part II”. People were mentally prepared for this scenario, and no-one would have found it illogical. All the pre-requisites were in hand – but still the awaited intervention/liberation did not happen. Why it did not happen is another question that will probably  never be clearly answered, and we can only speculate as to what made president Putin back down from his promise to defend the people of Novorossiya against armed aggression. Was it threats from the west? Did/does he have a “master-plan” for the liberation of all of Ukraine – not just Novorossiya? We don´t know. But to try to liberate more than Novorossiya including all lands east of the Dnepr river, is a bad idea because the people of western Ukraine and, especially, Galicia, are not Russian in contrast to those in Novorossiya and east of the Dnepr.

The liberation of Crimea was of course very positive in all aspects, but there is one aspect that is often forgotten:

Remember that "Ukraine" including the Crimea had a pro-Russian majority in the last legal elections. Without Crimea it is 50/50 division between pro and anti Russian voters at best, and without Donbass the pro-Russian voters in the remaining "Ukraine" are a minority. Because of this fact it is impossible to stop the liberation at the borders of Donbass. We cannot leave most of Novorossiya occupied by the fascists in Kiev who want to join NATO and attack Russia. So the liberation must continue into the rest of Novorossiya and preferably all land east of the Dnepr too.....

Coverage of the breakdown of the partial ceasefire in Syria illustrated the main way corporate news media distort public understanding of a major foreign policy story. The problem is not that the key events in the story are entirely unreported, but that they were downplayed and quickly forgotten in the media’s embrace of themes with which they were more comfortable.

In this case, the one key event was the major offensive launched in early April by Al Nusra Front — the Al Qaeda franchise in Syria — alongside U.S.-backed armed opposition groups. This offensive was mentioned in at least two “quality” U.S. newspapers. Their readers, however, would not have read that it was that offensive that broke the back of the partial ceasefire.

On the contrary, they would have gotten the clear impression from following the major newspapers’ coverage that systematic violations by the Assad government doomed the ceasefire from the beginning.....

From Moscow to Myanmar, US-European funded organisations undermine the essential work of genuine NGOs.
A nongovernmental organisation (NGO) is described as a not-for-profit organisation independent from states and international governments. They are funded by donations and facilitated by volunteers drawn from the communities they serve.

Genuine NGOs fitting this description fulfil a vital role within the nations they work regarding issues including education, healthcare, the media, the environment, technology, and economic development.
They often perform their work in parallel with government organisations and may even cooperate with their national government. At other times, the provide a necessary but constructive check and balance to deficiencies present within a state.

However, NGOs can be abused. Foreign governments and financially motivated special interests can use the structure and appeal of NGOs as vectors to project unwarranted, coercive power and influence.

Funded not by the communities they claim to serve, but by these foreign interests, they often operate under the pretext of upholding the legitimate  roles and responsibilities of genuine NGOs while in reality undermining a targeted nation's government, its people, its institutions, and national peace and stability. Ironically, such organisations also undermine the perceived legitimacy and effectiveness of real NGOs....

Deceased FBI Agent Found At Trump Tower With Silenced Pistol

A source within the NYPD has reported that an armed 62 year old man tried to sneak in to the Trump Tower late Tuesday night. Interestingly the suspect who was found with a semi-automatic handgun fitted with a silencer has been identified as Barry Lee Bush, a former Newark NJ FBI agent who has been dead since 2007.

A Secret Service agent discovered Bush after he had circumvented a security partition on the bottom floor of the Trump Tower.  Questioned by Secret Service at the scene, Bush who initially identified himself as Barry Franklyn, remained silent offering no explanation for why he broke security at the Trump Tower.

According to the NYPD source, Bush was arrested for trespassing and for illegally carrying a pistol fitted with an illegal silencer. During his booking at the NYPD Jail, Bush’s fingerprints were submitted to the National Crime Information Center, which immediately reported Bush’s true identity.

“I wasn’t sure if our system had malfunctioned, so I rescanned his fingerprints to confirm that our system was working correctly.  There was no system error. The man we have in custody was reported deceased in 2007 after being shot in an attempted bank robbery, “one source speaking on anonymity said.

The New York Times reported on April 6, 2007 that Barry Bush,  a veteran F.B.I. agent on a bank-robbery detail was fatally wounded apparently when another agent’s weapon accidentally discharged during a confrontation with three gunmen outside a bank in a quiet town in central New Jersey.

Speaking about the weapon found on Bush, the NYPD source stated, “We don’t find hardware like this on the streets–that Glock was never stamped at the factory [serial number]—those pieces are reserved for people with a lot higher pay grades than me.”...

‘Kiev has turned to terrorism’: Putin on foiled sabotage plot in Crimea 

Kiev has turned to the “practice of terrorism” instead of trying to peacefully resolve Ukraine’s crisis, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in commenting on an FSB report that it had foiled terrorist attacks in Crimea plotted by Ukrainian intelligence.
Ukraine is “playing a dangerous game,” the Russian leader said when talking to reporters on Wednesday, while calling Kiev’s actions “stupid and criminal.”

Moscow cannot turn a blind eye to the deaths of its servicemen who were killed during special operations to prevent terrorist attacks in Crimea, Putin said.

Given that the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR MOU) was allegedly behind the thwarted terrorist attacks in Crimea, it is “pointless” to meet with Ukraine’s current authorities to seek a solution to the country’s crisis, Putin said.

The leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France, and Germany were to meet in the so-called “Normandy format” to discuss the peace process in Ukraine on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 in China.....

He became a test pilot and: “one of the first Americans to fly in world War Two.” Seventeen years later he had graduated from dropping Candy Bars to dropping the world’s first atomic bomb on Hiroshima.

Tibbets told the authors:

    “I got called on this bomb job … I was told I was going to destroy one city with one bomb. That was quite a thought … We had, working in my organization, a murderer, three men guilty of manslaughter and several felons; all of them had escaped from prison.

The crime which the “oufit” committed was also unique, making the odd murder, manslaughter or felony on home soil pale in to insignificance in comparison.

ISIS, Taliban call truce to fight US-backed forces in Afghanistan - military officials
 Having been engaged in fierce battles against each other for over a year in Afghanistan, Islamic State and Taliban militants have agreed a truce to counter US-backed forces in the region, military officials told American media.

Afghan government forces have been using the rivalry between Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) and the Taliban to push the latter’s forces back from the territories under their control. But several months ago the conflict died out as the two terrorist groups seemed to have reached a shaky truce, Afghan officials say.

“They [IS] fought deadly battles with the Taliban before. But over the past two months, there has been no fighting among them,” the Wall Street Journal cites Mohammad Zaman Waziri, who commands Afghan troops in the east of the country, as saying.

The truce enabled Islamic State to regroup and concentrate on engaging Afghan forces in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, which used to be an Al-Qaeda stronghold, media report. ...

Saudi Arabia sends tonnes of text books to each and every address where a donation has been sent.  These text books have filth written in them about Christians and Jews and anybody not Muslim. 
Is it any wonder that students of such schools grow up hating all non-Muslims and become raving Wahhabists bent on jihad?

Saudi government funding private Islamic schools in Canada, documents show

The Saudi government is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to help finance the expansion of private Islamic schools in Canada, according to newly leaked documents that shine a light on how foreign states are helping finance a growing demand for religious education.

The documents, involving cables between diplomats at the Saudi embassy in Ottawa and government officials in Riyadh, contain conversations from 2012 and 2013 about a $211,000 donation to a school in Ottawa and $134,000 to a school in Mississauga.

The schools confirmed to The Globe and Mail they had sought such donations to help build or buy new facilities for rapidly expanding student bodies.

The memos about the donations were among 500,000 Saudi diplomatic cables that WikiLeaks has begun releasing, yielding unprecedented insights into how the secretive Arab kingdom operates outside its own borders.

Foreign donations to private schools are legal. But Riyadh is frequently accused of spreading a puritanical form of Islam, and its critics allege Saudi dollars can pave the way for Saudi doctrine....

Ar-Rahji offered the resulting version for free to mosques, schools, and libraries throughout the world. The footnoted commentary about Jews remained so egregious that, in April 2002, the Los Angeles school district banned its use at local schools."

"From the beginning, the Hilali and Muhsin Khan translation reads more like a supremacist Muslim, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian polemic than a rendition of the Islamic scripture. Although this Saudi-sponsored effort, undertaken before 9-11, is a serious liability for American Muslims in particular, it still remains present in Sunni mosques, probably because of its free distribution by the Saudi government."

 The recent and rapid successes of the Islamic State (IS) in seizing Palmyra in Syria and Ramadi in Iraq, together with its three successful same-day strikes on 26 June 2015 in Kuwait, France, and Tunisia seem to have left British Prime Minister David Cameron rather panicky — like a twitchy kitten experiencing its first thunder-and lightning storm.

In response to these events, Cameron has come somewhat unglued. The leader of a once mighty, respected, and feared nation has responded to IS’s offensive operations by (a) calling on the UK Muslim leaders to perform a miracle and control the thoughts, sympathies, and actions of all members of the Muslim community; (b) predicting that IS was on the verge of “terrible” attacks in Britain, without offering any sign of the backbone needed to credibly warn IS of “terrible” British retribution if its forces attack in the UK; and (c) demanding that the BBC stop identifying the Islamic State as the Islamic State and instead call it “ISIL” because it is “death cult” and has nothing to do with Islam. On the latter point, Cameron sounds like an Oxford-educated version of Barack Obama.

One must wonder what Cameron thinks he is accomplishing with such prattle for the defense of his nation or the deterrence of its enemies. The British prime minister seems to have missed the fact that there probably are not any leaders in the West’s expatriate Muslim communities who can reliably control their young males or lessen the strength of their faith, their admiration for IS victories, or their eagerness to join the jihad. Cameron perhaps should ask his advisers about the rumors he might have heard claiming that many thousands of young Muslim males — Muslim-born and converts — from the UK, all other EU nations, the US, Canada, and Australia are already fighting with IS forces or helping IS to build, organize, fund, and administer its nascent Caliphate. Braced with this hard data, the prime minister might stop delegating the UK’s defense to unnamed “Muslim leaders” and get on with his job of making sure the realm is both defended and capable of annihilating its enemies.

Cameron’s warning that “terrible” IS attacks are coming Britain’s way also suggests he is a bit under informed. Thirty of the Queen’s subjects, for example, were slaughtered by IS fighters last week on a Tunisian beach, apparently after receiving militarily training from IS members based in the peaceful, multicultural, and secular Libyan democracy created by Cameron, Obama, Hilary Clinton, and Sarkozy.

Cameron has huffed, puffed, and looked sad about the murders of his countrymen, but the odds are that some or all of the dead might never have gone to swim and sunbathe in skimpy swimsuits, cavort, and drink alcohol in a Muslim country if Cameron had not constantly reiterated the now mandatory US-UK-EU lie that IS, al-Qaeda, and other Islamist groups are made up of small numbers of criminals, fanatics, and lunatics who have nothing to do with the Islamic faith, and whom the West is defeating by killing them one at a time. Had Cameron jettisoned this lie and truthfully said that an ever increasing portion of the Muslim world is waging a religious war against the West and is ready and eager to kill as many Westerners as necessary to drive the West out of the Muslim world, the now quite dead Britons might have stayed home to swim and frolic in the colder but safer waters of Britain’s resort towns.

And more will die because David Cameron — and all other Western leaders — will continue to base the defense of their individual nations and the West as a whole on three pivotal and ultimately self-defeating lies. First, as noted above, they will continue to claim that Islamists are not Islamic, that the war they are waging is not a religious war, and that Islam is a Quaker-like religion of eternal peace and pacifism, even when polls show that most Muslims believe their faith and brethren are under attack by the West, especially by the United States and its closest allies, and must be defended.

Whether the pen is mightier than the sword  may be open for debate, but one country is taking no chances and using both weapons in the fight against Islamic State militants.

Iran, which has provided military aid to the Iraqi and Syrian governments in their battles against the Islamist extremist faction, hosted a just-completed cartoon contest with a very pointed goal: using caricature to mock the militants.  

 

The event, dubbed the Daesh International Cartoon and Caricature Contest (after a pejorative Arabic acronym for Islamic State), was designed to expose the group's "true nature," according to Masoud Shojaei Tabatabaei, head of the House of Cartoon, an Iranian organization aligned with ruling hard-liners that organized the event.

"Daesh tries to associate itself with Islam, but in essence it has no idea about Islam," Tabatabaei said in an interview with Iran's Press TV last week.

Since first announced in February, organizers say, the contest has drawn more than 1,000 works by artists from more than 40 nations, the entries coming from as far as Brazil, Malaysia and Australia.

Judges pared the submissions to 270 for exhibition. Winners Aref Nazari and Ali Reza Pakdel each received a $1,500 cash prize.

The destruction of Islamic State, which has cut a bloody path of destruction across large portions of Iraq and Syria, is a rare foreign policy goal embraced by both Tehran and Washington, although the two adversaries vehemently deny any cooperation in their respective anti-militant campaigns.........

Iran launches anti-Isis cartoon competition   'to expose true nature of Islamic State'

Iran has launched an anti-Isis cartoon competition, inviting submissions from around the world which mock the militant group and the atrocities it has committed.

Organisers said selected works would be displayed at four cultural centres across Tehran, and that a winner would be announced on 31 May.

According to the state-run IRNA news agency, artists were briefed by Iran’s House of Cartoon to focus on “the crimes committed by the Islamic State (Isis)”.

Mohammad Habibi, the executive secretary of the contest, said 280 works had been selected from 800 submissions, including entries from over 40 countries such as Brazil, Australia and Indonesia.

Mr Habibi told the Tehran Times that some foreign cartoonists were attending the contest, but that they had been forced to travel under pseudonyms due to security concerns...........

Abu Qatada, the radical Islamic preacher deported from Britain after an eight-year legal battle, is released from prison after being found not guilty of terrorism offences.
A military court in Jordan, Amman, ruled there was insufficient evidence against Abu Qatada, who was charged with planning to target Israeli and American tourists and western diplomats in 2000 in the so-called "millennium plot".
The 53-year-old cleric, who was previously acquitted in June of charges relating to a foiled plan to attack an American school in Amman in 1999, was later released from prison.

But ministers moved fast to reassure that he would not return to Britain. Theresa May, who headed government efforts to remove Abu Qatada from the UK, said: "The due process of law has taken place in Jordan. That is absolutely as it should be. The UK courts here were very clear that Abu Qatada poses a threat to our national security.

"That's why we were pleased as a government to remove him from the UK. He is subject to a deportation order, he is also subject to a UN travel ban. That means he will not be returning to the UK."

Abu Qatada - who was once referred to as "Osama bin Laden's right-hand man in Europe" - was finally deported from Britain in 2013 after a protracted legal battle involving successive home secretaries........

FEMA Wants at Least $5.8M in Sandy Aid Repaid

Thousands of people who received government aid after Superstorm Sandy slammed the East Coast may be forced to give some or all of that money back, nearly two years after the disaster.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is scrutinizing about 4,500 households that it suspects got improper payments, according to program officials and data obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request. As of early September, FEMA had asked around 850 of them to return a collective $5.8 million. The other cases were still under review.

FEMA's campaign to recover overpayments, called "recoupment" in government lingo, involves instances where the agency believes a household got more money than allowed under program rules, but not necessarily through an attempt to cheat the system. Fraud cases are handled separately.

Many people asked to return money were deemed ineligible for aid because their damaged properties were vacation houses or rental properties, not their primary homes. Others had double-dipped into the aid pool, with more than one household member getting payments. Some received FEMA money for things later covered by insurance.

In all, about $53 million in payments are under review. That's just a fraction of the $1.4 billion that storm victims received. But that is no consolation to many homeowners.

As of July 30, the average demanded refund was $6,987, a sum that could be difficult for many people to produce, given the modest income of most aid applicants. Roughly half the households under scrutiny reported an annual gross income of $30,000 or less......

An important Syrian military airbase falls into the hands of ISIS/ISIL/IS/xyz along with all fighter jets, helicopters and heavy weaponry within that base.  This is extremely bad news for each and every country around Syria.
Remember that this hell has been deliberately created by those who think they have become masters of the world and can bring about revolutions and regime changes wherever and whenever they want to.

Keeping Score on the Libya Intervention:  Good Idea or Tragic Mistake?
On April 22, 2003, at the American Enterprise Institute, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer remarked:

“Hans Blix had five months to find weapons. He found nothing. We’ve had five weeks. Come back to me in five months. If we haven’t found any, we will have a credibility problem.”

In response, the Crooked Timber blog declared April 22 “Krauthammer Day,” so that each year we could reflect on Krauthammer’s perspicacity and the powerful sense of accountability and stewardship that pervades America’s foreign-policy establishment.

In that spirit, I suggest we declare August 24 “Slaughter Day,” to commemorate former State Department director of policy planning Anne-Marie Slaughter’s August 24, 2011 Financial Times piece entitled “Why Libya Sceptics Were Proved Badly Wrong.” According to Slaughter, “the real choice in Libya was between temporary stability and the illusion of control, or fluidity and the ability to influence events driven by much larger forces.” Having chosen the latter, Slaughter said, it wasn’t too early to judge the Obama administration correct and the skeptics wrong.

Slaughter’s account of the initial debate over the war includes several arguments: according to her, the advocates claimed Washington had a “strategic interest” in demonstrating to the under-thirty populations in the Middle East that we “live up to [our] values”; Washington needed to assert its belief that “effective leadership must come from the centre,” which is America; and the intervention emphasized U.S. relations with “social forces,” not just states, which was an overdue change.

I don’t remember those arguments featuring in the debate. The main skeptic argument was that even after the U.S.-led coalition regime-changed Qaddafi, stability, unity and liberalism were likely to be elusive. Stephen Walt surveyed the social-science literature on foreign-imposed regime change and judged,

“the probability that our intervention will yield a stable democracy is low, and … our decision to intervene has increased the likelihood of civil war. Heading off that possibility is likely to require a costly and extended international commitment, which is precisely what the people who launched this operation promised they would not do.”

Three years on, it’s worth a look at Libya and an effort to determine just how wrong the Libya skeptics were. So let’s start with the economy: According to Morgan Stanley, 2014 will see Libyan oil production above 25 percent of what it was under Qaddafi. Unemployment among youth ages 15-24 is 24 percent.....

Will the West now beg Assad to help it to defeat the wahhabi monster?

After destroying and breaking up  his country, creating a civil war which at last count has claimed 191K lives and sent millions of his people into refugee camps, if Assad is asked to side with the West in their fight against ISIS/ISIL/IS/xyz,  I hope he will tell them to go to hell and remain there.  

Con Coughlin, the first few paragraphs of his article are below, is the Defence Editor of The Telegraph UK and he is supposed to be a world-renowned expert on global security and terrorism issues.  The man has changed his tune in this his latest article, he used to be a zealot and a shill for Assad's "opposition" but now he thinks the West needs Assad's help.  Most so called analysts are equally as blind as this man, until someone comes right up to them and gives them a resounding slap.  Looks like ISIS/ISIL/IS/xyz did just that.

Now we need Assad's help to defeat Isil  
If any further proof were needed of the complete state of chaos that currently afflicts Western policy towards the Middle East, it is to be found in the dawning realisation within both the British and American governments that we need Syrian President Bashar al-Assad as an ally, not a foe, if we are to stand any chance of defeating the Islamic State's terrorist army.

Exactly this time last year David Cameron was hurrying back from his annual holiday in Cornwall to lend his support to the Obama administration's plans to bomb the Assad regime in retaliation for its alleged use of chemical weapons on the outskirts of Damascus. One of my main arguments then for opposing the air strikes was that, if the air raids succeeded in overthrowing the Assad regime, there was a strong possibility that Islamist militants would end up seizing control of the country, which could hardly be deemed to be in any of our national interests.

Now, thanks to the appalling atrocities that have been perpetrated by the same Islamist militants in Syria and Iraq, mssrs Cameron and Obama now found themselves having to take military action against Islamic State fanatics to prevent them from achieving their goal of establishing an Islamist fiefdom in captured territory in northern Iraq and Syria from which they can plan attacks against the West.

And it is now blindingly obvious, as Lord Dannatt, the former head of the Army, pointed out on Radio Four this morning, that if we are going to succeed in our attempts to defeat Isil, then we will need Mr Assad's tacit support, particularly if, as Mr Obama has now warned, the West is giving serious consideration to launching air strikes against Isil positions in Syria......

I see many tweets from Israeli hawks on Twitter  trying to compare Gazans dead to the bigger numbers dead in Syria in just so many days, and stating that only anti-Semitism is the cause for the outcry against Israel. It's comparing apples to oranges, but when have Israel's supporters stopped to think twice? Do they ever look in the mirror and wonder why there are just as many critics of  Israeli policies as there are of Islam's disgusting norms and deeds?  

The thing to remember is that the Syrian govt is battling jihadis who place car bombs in crowded places and drive trucks laden with bombs into not only military bases but also market areas. The civilian deaths in Syria are more to do with jihadis battling it out with each other than to do only with Assad.  Moreover, in Gaza, the blasted Israeli govt. is blasting away at Gazans who are restricted to a tiny little area and not to areas like in Syria which are a 100 times larger than Gaza ... the most tiniest battlegrounds of Syria would be at least 50 times the size of Gaza.  To learn more about the Syrian situation, which is far more complex than the genocidal massacre going on in Gaza, Joshua Landis blog often has good coverage.

The all-American al Qaeda suicide bomber  

Seconds before he detonated the massive truck bomb that killed him and a number of Syrian soldiers two months ago, Moner Mohammad Abu-Salha radioed other fighters in al Qaeda to say, "I see paradise and I can smell paradise."
That in itself may not be unusual. But what should focus our attention is the identity of the bomber -- he was an American.

The son of a Palestinian father and an Italian-American mother, Abu-Salha grew up in Vero Beach, Florida, where he played high school football.
Abu-Salha, who was 22, is the first American suicide bomber known to have died in Syria.
On Monday, an al Qaeda-affiliated group in Syria released a half-hour videotape in which Abu-Salha explained his rationale for the impending suicide mission.
The video is an important window into the worldview of a Western recruit to al Qaeda drawn to the Syrian civil war, which is now in it fourth year. And the video also helps illuminate the recruitment techniques that the group has used to draw Westerners to the conflict, estimated to now number around 2,000.

n the video, Abu-Salha is shown tearing up his American passport and then the passport is set on fire. Next he is shown wearing a green camouflage vest and holding an AK-47 rifle delivering a diatribe to the camera directly.
Speaking in a strong American accent, Abu-Salha explicitly appeals to fellow militants in the States and the United Kingdom, saying that coming to fight with al Qaeda was so simple that he arrived in Syria "with only $20 in my pocket." Abu-Salha explained that "Allah made it easy for me" as he traveled from the States to Turkey and from there crossed over into neighboring Syria.............

Pope calls for prayers as militants chase all Christians out of Mosul
As the last Iraqi Christians in Mosul fled the city, Pope Francis urgently called for prayers, dialogue and peace.

"Violence isn't overcome with violence. Violence is conquered with peace," the pope said before leading thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square in a moment of silent prayer July 20.

"Our brothers and sisters are persecuted, they are chased away," he said, as he assured Christians in all of Iraq and the Middle East of his "constant prayers."

The pope's plea came as the last Christian families living in Mosul were forced from the city after facing increasing threats, violence and intimidation.

The Islamic State group, which has taken control of Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, was threatening to kill any Christians who did not convert to Islam or pay a tax, Syriac Patriarch Ignace Joseph III Younan told Vatican Radio.

The militants in Mosul also burned to the ground the building housing the Syriac bishop's office, residence and library, and everything inside, he said July 19......

At least five people have been killed, one local official said.

 Just days after the militant group the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria said they killed hundreds of Syrians, dozens of Iraqi Christian families are now fleeing the ISIS-controlled city of Mosul, hoping to avoid a similar fate.
On Friday, the al Qaeda splinter group issued an ultimatum to Iraqi Christians living in Mosul -- by Saturday at noon (5 a.m. ET), they must convert to Islam, pay a fine or face "death by the sword."
A total of 52 Christian families left the city of Mosul early Saturday morning, with an armed group prohibiting some of them from taking anything but the clothes on their backs.
"They told us, 'You to leave all of your money, gold, jewelry and go out with only the clothes on you,'" Wadie Salim told CNN.........

The violence in Iraq has killed more than 5,500 civilians over the first six months of the year, according to a report by the United Nations that documents the massive humanitarian toll of the Sunni militant offensive.

The Islamic State (Isis) and other Sunni insurgents seized control of the city of Falluja, as well as part of nearby Ramadi in Anbar province in early January. The militants then launched an offensive in June that has brought a huge swath of northern and western Iraq under their control.

In its report, the UN mission to Iraq says at least 5,576 civilians were killed and another 11,665 wounded from 1 January until the end of June. Another 1.2 million have been driven from their homes by the violence, it adds.....
