I think I've reloaded this video about 10 times already....
Baauer is proving to be an unstoppable force with his recent productions, and with the Trap Music subgenre really starting to take off worldwide, it's safe to say we can expect big things to come over the next year from this kid.
No, it's not a fly on the wall documentary about Gotham's favourite billionaire, it's actually a promo video of my good friend DJ Bruce Wayne from The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen rocking Proud Galleries in Camden, London.
I'm yet to party with Bruce & the Dixon Brothers on a Friday night, but I hear (and can see) that this place is proper lively!
One of the posters over at Grime Forum kindly threw this up on Youtube the other day.
Originally aired in 2003 on BBC Radio 1, and featuring interviews from Plastician, Oris Jay and even a then 17 year oldBenga, it gives an interesting insight into the birth of 8 bar/early Grime and Dubstep. Highlights also include challenging Benga to make an 8 bar riddim in 10 minutes on Music 2000 for the Sony Playstation.
It's great to look back on the scene in 2003, and to see how it's developed over the past 10 years.
I was a massive fan of the game, so I'm really looking forward to this movie.
However, my only concerns are:
1. It still better be in film noir style, and not delve into some stupid supernatural shit (which may be the case if you watch the trailer closely, or check out the suggested plot outline).
2. The 'bullet-time' is done well, and doesn't come off looking like a poor man's Matrix.
3. The characters have depth to them like in the videogame. Too many action films have weak main & supporting roles....
4. It follows the storyline of the game accurately, unlike the "Super Mario Bros" movie, which sucked balls....
BONUS! Here's the Boy Better Know crew playing "Mallett's Mallet", hosted by none other than 1980's TV legend, Timmy Mallett, who actually makes a cameo in the official video.
An outstanding performance - From his entrance with "Wonderwall" (take that Noel!), to flipping ACDC for "99 Problems", and using The Prodigy's 'Smack My Bitch Up' for 'Is That Yo Bitch', and even spitting over 'American Boy', it was solid from start to finish.
Here are the videos:
My only criticisms are that he should have performed 'Roc Boys' instead of "I Know" - which wasn't the best track to perform that early on in the set, and it would have been nice to have heard something from the 'Reasonable Doubt' era (preferably "Can't Knock The Hustle")....Apart from that, it was a great look for Hip Hop, and definitely proved wrong the critics who said that the music has no place at Glasto....
In my eyes, Hova is THEG.O.A.T.
P.S. Jay, I just wish you had spat over "Pow!" as well dude!
Jonathan Ross had Hova & Will Smith on his show last night. Peep the interview, which covers things like Glastonbury, growing up in Bedstuy, and Damien Hirst. He even briefly talks about Beyonce....
