Dennis has been putting in for an Archery Elk hunt for about 5 years now and he finally got drawn. He went out with my dad and my brother Dave everyday for almost 2 weeks. It seemed like all they ever had was bad luck. The first day they had a good spot and the elk were persistent. Of course, that would be the day that they didn't see any elk. Come to find out someone had been out spotlighting just a few hours before they got out there and scared off the elk. They had 2 different Game Warden's stop them. They were calling in an elk and my dad's cell phone rang (oops... he forgot to turn it off), another time Dennis kicked the bucket he was sitting on. He finally got a shot at one the day before he was to leave and he shot over the elk. Missed him and then hit a fence post.
His last day hunting he decided to go out with his cousin Danny. They hadn't seen anything in the morning and he had a feeling he wasn't going to see anything in the evening. I get a call about 5:45pm and he is freaking out. First thing that comes to mind is that one of them got shot. Since Dennis was on the phone I instantly thought Dennis shot Danny. That thought quickly went out of my head ad I hear Dennis scream "We got one, We each got one, I think they are 7x7's. I'll call you back." Well come to find out they were headed back in for the evening when they came up on 2 bull elk fighting. They both shot an arrow and hit them. They kept fighting so they shot another arrow and they finally fell. Come to find out they both shot both elk. Danny got a 6x6 and Dennis got a 6x7. He has been so happy that is all he has been talking about it. I am so proud of him for sticking to it even though they have had bad luck trough the whole hunt.
