How Quickly We Forget

I don't know how many of you have read the blog Little Green Footballs (not linking due to an AOS Moron policy to not give the blog any more traffic), but it started becoming popular among righties when writer Charles Johnson discovered that the documents that Dan Rather used in his news report on George W. Bush's wartime service were faked.

Johnson is an atheist. Nothing wrong with that, except that when the discussion on his blog turned to evolution vs. creationism his idea of debate was to ban anyone who posted in favor of creationism.

I kept him in the blog roll for awhile, but finally decided not to link to him because he had started leaning more towards the left. And it was becoming apparent that his personal views were adjusting to fit those of the people he most wanted to play with at any given time.

Johnson came out as a lefty earlier this week, which was basically just making it official -- it's like coming out as gay to your friends, chances are most of them knew already, you were just confirming it.

Anyway, in his apparent need to go "full lefty," Johnson has a post up on his site today about climate change. (Screenshots taken from Weasel Zippers)


Note the first line: "A few years ago, I used to doubt there really were climate change denialists..."


Apparently, he has a very short memory -- as far back as 2007, he was one of them.

How quickly we forget, huh, Johnson?

Cash4Gold and Consumerist

I'm sure everyone on the internet has heard about this story already, but for those who don't know about it, here it is.

Cash4Gold, who advertises that they pay "top dollar" for gold you send them, is suing two former employees and consumer site The Consumerist over claims that the "top dollar" figure is false advertising. The two employees had posted on a blog and a forum about the practices of Cash4Gold.

Consumerist, now being part of Consumer Reports, employed a different technique to test the employees claims by buying some relatively cheap gold, getting them appraised at pawn shops, then sending them in to Cash4Gold to see what they paid (along with two similar companies). The verdict -- Cash4Gold and the other companies didn't pay top dollar.

Now, to try to counter the bad PR, the Cash4Gold PR person's job has been going into overdrive to try to counter the claims and erase the damage of the story.

Too late. Story's out there all pink and naked.

Moral of the story: don't piss of The Consumerist.

Blog Gets In Trouble Over Comments that Might Have Been A Set-Up

Over the weekend, Free Republic had a "caption this picture" post featuring President Obama's daughter Malia wearing a t-shirt with a peace symbol on it. Well, a lot of the comments crossed the line when it came to racism, and the blog was forced to take the whole thread down.

I'm not saying this is what happened, but there is something rather fishy about the whole thing.

The guy who reported it for the Vancouver Sun? His name is Chris Parry, and he has blogged in the past under the name "hollywoodoz" at Daily KOS. In the past he had advocated flooding conservative blogs with hate speech so that the site administrators would get blamed.

Is he responsible for what happened at Free Republic? Don't know. Coincidence? Don't know that, either. But it does kill his credibility, doesn't it?

Happy One Year Anniversary!

I got so busy with taking care of my son today as well as school tonight that I forgot that, not only would today have been my late father's birthday, but it is also the one year anniversary of this blog.

So....Happy Birthday to ConChrist!

So, what's coming up in the new year? Hopefully more entries than there have been recently, which I continue to apologize for.

Sometime this week I'm going to try to give a rundown of the upcoming Town Meetings here in New Hampshire. There are a few scheduled tonight, but more will be coming down the pike over the next few weeks. It will depend on how quickly I can do research before I can start reading my books for this class.

So Why Isn't Palin In Washington Helping Out With the Bailout Bill?

This has got to be one of the dumbest questions I have ever, ever seen in print by a "journalist."

Why isn't Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., bringing Gov. Sarah Palin to Washington, DC, to help hammer out the compromise on the bailout bill?

After attending McCain's speech at the Clinton Global Initiative this morning, Palin is scheduled to head to Philadelphia and be down for the rest of the day.

If this crisis is so serious McCain needs to suspend his campaign activities and cancel his appearance at the first presidential debate, why would Palin not be there with him in Washington, DC?

I know her office is in Juneau, not DC, but surely the governor McCain insists is "absolutely" qualified to run the Free World would have some contribution to make. Surely her presence is needed at such a dire time.

No?

Let's see...maybe because it's not her job!

Unlike the other candidates in the race, she's not a senator. She can't do anything even if she were there.

It's like, no matter what she does or doesn't do, the press and the Democrats are looking for some kind of "gotcha" moment to get her on. And failing.

And you notice how most of the stories about her are made up? It's like they couldn't find anything that was truthful and just decided that the truth doesn't matter anymore.

The Obama Campaign Astroturfing? Can't Be True!

I don't have a lot of time to post the details, but several bloggers including Rusty Shackleford from the Jawa Report and Ace have been doing research into a anti-Palin video that was allegedly posted by a "grass roots" organization which may have actually been posted by a professional PR firm.

For those not familiar with the term "astroturfing," it's a play on the term "grass roots," except when you "astroturf," it's a way to make something look like a grass roots effort. It's not illegal, it's just disingenuous.

In this case, the video in question was a smear against Palin which was proven false several weeks ago -- that she was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, which amongst other things believes that Alaska should secede from the union. Since the reporting started, the YouTube accounts of the people hosting the video were deleted by the owners of the accounts.

Why The Left Is Afraid Of Gov. Sarah Palin

I've been following the recent stories since the announcement that Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin was the vice-presidential nominee for the Republican ticket. Because of Christopher still learning his schedule, I haven't been able to post too much on my thoughts on what I thought of the smears being thrown at Palin by the left (and some from the Republican party in her own state).

As soon as the announcement was made, those in the left bogosphere tried to find anything they could on Palin. Let's run down the "concerns" that have been expressed on her nomination, shall we?

Palin Would Be Neglecting Her Children By Running For The VP Spot

Palin is a mother of five children. Her husband, Todd, is a house husband when he isn't doing commercial fishing or working the pipeline for BP. What I find funny about this "concern" is that, according to feminism, women are supposed to be able to do anything. Why is whether her children being "neglected" suddenly a concern? This is never brought up amongst those who are left-leaning. Is she supposed to put her whole life on hold?

Palin Has An Ongoing Scandal In Her Administration, aka "Troopergate"

This would be a concern if her office wasn't fully cooperating with the investigation into the firing of the head of the Alaska State Troopers. But the state attorney's office has not felt the need to issue supoenas in the case becasue of the cooperation of everyone in the Governor's office on the matter.

If you aren't familiar with what the issue is, Palin was accused of firing Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan over the potential firing of former brother-in-law Mike Wooten. Palin said that she offered Monegan another position, but he turned it down, so she let him go over budgetary and recruitment issues.

The only thing that the media is reporting is the investigation, not giving any of the details of the backstory behind it. The full affidavidt, released today, is here. But to sum it up, her sister was married to Wooten. In 2005, before she became the governor, Wooten had made several threats against Palin and her family. He was put on suspension for five days, which the Palins didn't find out about until after she was in office, but was still allowed to be a trooper. In fact, it is recorded in the affidavidt that one time Wooten called Palin's daughter Bristol at a sporting event a "fucking asshole."

Palin's Son Trig Is Not Hers

This is the sickest of the rumors. Why pick on a little baby? He's only four months old, for crying out loud. This one was started on Daily KOS and just spread through the Internet through other lefty bloggers. KOS has since removed most of the posts, but the damage has already been done.

Palin's Daughter Bristol is Pregnant!

This one is true, but again the whole story is not out there. Most of the residents of Wasilla, the town where Palin is from, already knew about it, but didn't think it was anyone's business.

The story is this: Bristol and her fiance got engaged first, according to the mother of the fiance. A few months later, they found out that Bristol was expecting their first child. So they decided to move up the ceremony. No shotgun wedding here -- the wedding was planned before the pregnancy. It's just that the joy is just coming a little sooner than expected.

And it really is a joy. Babies always are, regardless of the circumstances of when they happen. But the left wants to paint this as some sort of "shame" on the right. Far from it -- it would be a shame if she had decided to abort the child. But her and her fiance are going to raise the baby. And that is commendable -- they are dealing with the situation the best way they can. If anything, the story has united the right in a way I don't think the left expected, with the blogs and MSM coming under attack by the right for using the 17 year old as a political tool.

So Why Is The Left Afraid of Palin?

Because they don't have a woman on their side as tough and as smart as Palin. They have nothing in Obama (who has been trying to play the Experience card, forgetting that she has more executive experience than he does), so they have to attack Palin on anything they can find. The press were caught off-guard by McCain's choice, so now they are in attack mode.

Some feminists are responding to some of the attacks on Palin regarding whether she can be a mother and VP at the same time -- why is the same question not asked of men? But most are staying silent, prefering to use her experience as a beauty queen or her looks against her. They forget that she is a real reformer when it counts, and that she is getting the GOP really excited for the first time.

Before, I was going to go to the polls holding my nose while voting for McCain. Now, I'm a little more excited about the ticket. Palin is a welcome addition, and I will be sure to vote for her and McCain in November.

"A Script A Day"

I'm getting to the point where my interests are splintering into places that don't belong on this particular blog, which has become a depository for just a bunch of random stuff over the past few months. So, in an attempt to keep my interests separate, you might have noticed my separate blogs on the side addressing certain issues or interests.

The newest one: A Script A Day. This comes partially out of an assignment for a class I'm taking this summer. He gave us the link for Drew's Script-O-Rama, which has scripts from all over Hollywood posted up there, because we have a screenplay based on a short story due next week. As I was looking over there, I started reading one script in particular, and thought that my thoughts on it didn't belong here.

So, once I get done reading it (and probably watch the movie again), I will be posting my thoughts on "Death to Smoochy."

Updating The Site

You are going to see some changes while I try to clean up some elements around here while adding a few new tools.

1) One of them you are probably already seeing -- Blogger has a new feature called a "Blog List" where you can put blogs and other sites into a list form and it will update what's been put on the site. Some sites it can't read as of yet, and some site can't be read because they don't have RSS feeds. But enjoy this new feature.

2) I'm also going to make an attempt to clean up the topics list. When I first started this blog back in March, my topics were admittedly kind of random (and some are misspellings of other topics that I didn't catch). So now that I have certain tags that I do use more than others, I'm going to clean up the mess over there and try to make that list shorter.

"When Remakes Are Good"

I've often said that a remake isn't necessarily the kiss of death for a film as long as the director either updates the original concept or shows how things have changed between the original and the remake.

Someone agrees with me, at least on a few examples, anyway.

Karl Hungus has a post on his site you should check out on the few times that he can think of when the remake either was equal to the original or surpassed it. He cites "A Fistful of Dollars" (a remake to the Kurosawa film "Yojimbo"), "The Fly," "The Thing," "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," and "The Departed" (a remake to the three part "Infernal Affairs" series of movies) as the rare exceptions to the remake rule.

I'm going to forego doing this bit for tonight -- what I consider "top" might not what you consider "top". And it's been hard to blog this week because my allergies have been acting up all week.

As usual, blogging will be halted for the weekend while I try to get some homework done, as well as get some stuff done around the house and try to get a garden started before planting commences next month. I will probably be in with a video report sometime this weekend with my review of "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed." Hubby and I are going to be working out the logistics because the theater showing the film does not have any decent kids movies that we can just "drop off" my stepkids with (he wants to see it, too, after I told him what it was about).

If I'm not here with a video report by the end of the weekend, see you next week.

Keep Free Speech Alive in Canada!

In fact, he was often both a customer and an investigator at the same time.

Richard Warman has brought almost half these cases single-handledly, getting websites he doesn’t like shut down, and making tens of thousands of tax free dollars in "compensation" out of web site owners who can’t afford to fight back or don’t even realize they can.

The province of British Columbia had to pass a special law to stop Richard Warman from suing libraries because they carried books he didn't approve of.

Richard Warman also wants to ban international websites he doesn’t like from being seen by Canadians.

The folks named in his new law suit are the very bloggers who have been most outspoken in their criticism of Warman’s methods.
