Back to School

First Grade

Fourth Grade

Today was the first day of school for Cade and Carter. Both boys had great days and like their teachers. Overall a success, not even a phone call from the nurse. (Side note- I had to edit the above caption on Cade's picture, he is in 4th grade not 3rd! Whoops!)

Here are some recent pictures taken by my friend Chelsea. I am trying to figure out how to blow them up big and arrange them on my wall in the entryway. (There's not too many of Cami because I already had some really cute ones of her done.) Chris and I weren't planning on being in any of the pictures but she got a few of us all together. Mistaken Identity

We took one of our kittens, Tiger, to the vet yesterday to get shots and get fixed. She had to be dropped of by 8 am and spent the day there. When I went to pick her up at 6 that night they brought her out and gave me the post-op directions for her care. I went to take her and realized the cat they were trying to give me was not Tiger! The nurses were all confused and said they had 3 cats in that day for surgery that all looked identical and somehow the cats got mixed up and they weren't sure which was which! About the same time someone called on the phone and was talking to a nurse. These people on the phone were calling to say that they had just picked up their cat and had gotten home and realized their cat was wearing someone elses collar. So the nurse told them to bring the collar back in and they would get it to the right owners. Meanwhile, I have been waiting about 20 minutes for them to go find the right cat (although I wouldn't have minded a different cat that was better behaved than the one I brought in). While I am there waiting a guy covered in tattoos and piercings walks in carrying a cat. He says he is the guy who called about the wrong collar. When they started looking closer they realized not only was it the wrong collar but also the wrong cat! It was Tiger. They sent her home with this guy! Lucky for her they brought her back and she is now safe at home. Just a little incompetent! Don't think we will be going back there. I'm just hoping they did the right surgery, guess we will find out if she has kittens. Cami thinks Tiger looks adorable with her cone around her neck that stops her from licking her wound. She has been a little mother to Tiger, petting her and making her a little bed out of towels on the bathroom floor. Chris asked Cami today if she wanted to be a dr. that takes care of animals when she gets bigger. Cami said, "No, I want to be a mommy. I just don't want to have any kids!" Nice.

What we've been up to...

It seems like the last few weeks of summer vacation have flown by so fast! School is starting in 9 days! Last week Carter and Cami finished up their swim lessons. I am so happy Cami can swim well now and is able to pick her head up and take a breath. She loved doing lessons with her friends. The boys have been getting ready to go back to school. They had to get physicals done for school and we discovered that Cade needed glasses. So far he hates them and is refusing to wear them. The eye dr. said he doesn't have to wear them all the time, just to watch tv and see the board in class. But considering genetics, he will be wearing them full time soon enough. Everyone in both my family and Chris's family wears glasses or contacts so unfortunetly my kids don't stand much of a chance at good eye sight. We've been doing the traditonal back to school shopping for new shoes, cool backpacks and new uniforms. They are excited to go back and find out which friends are in their classes this year.

Stevie and Lidia came down for their summer break and it was fun to get to visit with them. We went to the lake Saturday and had lots of fun. The highlight was when we were leaving. We discovered our Tahoe had been blocked in by a suburban and a honda. So in true Torrance style, Chris and my dad proceeded to drop the boat trailer, hook up tow ropes to the suburban and pull it out into the middle of the parking lot where they left it for the owners to find! Definitely a red shirt day! (Whenever my dad wears a red shirt he always gets into a confrontation with someone. I think we are going to have to get Chris his own red shirt so they can get in fights together.)

Yesterday I went on a short overnight trip to California with my parents to visit my grandma and grandpa. We went down yesterday morning and came back early this morning. It was fun to see everyone and get to visit without having the drama of the kids (Chris stayed home with them!). Now we are onto the final days of summer vacation and squeezing in all the last minute things we wanted to do this summer.
