A Weekend in Logan

Last weekend my grandpa was honored at Utah State during homecoming weekend. I must admit, he was the cutest Grand Marshal I've ever seen. Luckily for me, I was working in Logan that Friday so I met up with my parents and Jenn to go to the dinner. Little did we know that this dinner led into the homecoming dance, so half of those attending the dinner were in formal wear which made me feel a little under dressed in my gray church skirt... oh well. When we sat down at our table I was happy to see my good friend Dave Wangsgard who has been frequently attending our family functions with my cute cousin Sarah Barlow.
Brock was tied up in Bountiful but came up around 11:30 - just in time for True Aggie Night. It's such a fun tradition. The next morning in between breakfast with my grandpa and the football game we had some time to walk around campus. I really miss it! Logan is so pretty and Utah State's campus is amazing in the fall. It was fun to walk around and talk about memories of school. I am definitely happy that I'm done with school but being on campus made me really miss being there.

This picture is blurry but it's of my grandpa in the parade. I was a little disappointed because I thought he would be at the front of the parade marching with a baton - no such luck.

Here I am during the parade with my cousin Meg and my mom in front. You would think the homecoming parade would be small but it was huge - a lot bigger than most 4th of July parades I've seen. The best part was being thrown candy. Jenn's friend Jed got a small tub of Aggie Ice Cream and Quinn got squeaky cheese.

Jenn is always doing something random. Here she is imitating a weirdly posed mannequin in a store window.Utah State Homecoming Football game. Here they are introducing my grandpa.

It was such a beautiful day, much warmer than I remember Logan ever being. Also I must say it was a great football game, even though odds were against me - I don't like football that much and Utah State is really bad - but it was a really close, intense game. Sadly we lost in the last 2 seconds with a 60 yard field goal. Brock was kicking himself because a fan from the opposing team in front of us kept saying "I'll make a bet he doesn't make it, there's no way he can" and Brock almost took him up on it but decided not too... Too bad, it could have made us rich but it was probably good we didn't bet against our own team.

Happy Birthday Grandma

My grandma turned 87 last weekend. She is the sweetest nicest lady in the world. Here are the Barlow girls minus Julia and Katie.
Fashion News
Apparently yellow and black are the new colors of the season. Also it looks best when you pair it with really pointy high heels

REAL Salt Lake

Last Thursday Brock and I had the pleasure of going to the REAL Salt Lake game. I work with a lady named Colleen, she is the VP of PR at Icon and she was given a couple tickets and couldn't go so she passed them along to me and my good friend/co-worker Sayward. I thought this was extremely nice of her especially considering how nice of seats they were. They were the president of REAL Salt Lake's personal seats! Here we are at Gandalfo's. Brock loves this place but he will only go to the one in downtown Salt Lake, he thinks it's a lot better there. This picture was taken from our seats... No one between us besides the guys in green vests.

This was the first game in their new stadium. It was a really cool design and I can only imagine the view during the day.Well it sounded really glamorous to go to the soccer game, sit on the front row, cuddle in our blanket and drink hot chocolate. However, getting to the game brought out my survivor skills. Since the stadium is brand new, parking was an issue. The traffic was horrible so we took a side street just in front of the stadium. We were running a little late so we opted for the $6 parking. They had us park in a nasty dirt field of which our car almost didn't make it out (by the way it was our nice car - had it been the Camry we would have left it there). When we asked the parking attendant how to get there she said "I don't know, just follow them" - very comforting. So we followed the trail of people walking along a dirt road bordering a canal. We asked two people passing us going the opposite way how we should cross and they said there was a bridge up the way.... Well the bridge turned out to be three pallets, one completed emerged in water. But to get to the "bridge" we had to walk down a very steep 15 foot hill. The hill was so steep that I slide down, not on purpose, holding Brock's hand in front of me and a strangers shirt in back of me. After crossing the bridge, we walked through the broken fence with massive amounts of barbwire on the ground and went through a break in the fence of the Stadium's parking lot. By that point I was beginning to wonder if this wasn't a public path...

Oh and by the way REAL Salt Lake tied 1-1. It was a very fun game, both of us really enjoyed it.

Conference Weekend at the Barlows

I love conference weekend at my mom's house. My family all gathers in the family room and watches it together - which was incomplete this time since my sister Katie and her family live in Denver. Even thought she has lived out of state for a couple years now, this conference session it seemed a little more empty at my mom's house than usual. All of my other sisters were there doing the same things you probably would have seen them doing 10-15 years ago but it wasn't the same without Katie. I missed her singing and dancing for Jenny while egging Torie on, Miles singing "Thomas the Train", Ava asking for Juice and Steve making us all laugh.

WE MISS YOU KATIE!!

To update Katie on what went on as well as try to explain my families quarks to all else viewing this, I took pictures of everyone in their usual conference state. First off though, my mom loves her traditions - some I loved and some I hated growing up but now they all make me laugh. My mom has been called (more than once) a conference Nazi - mainly due to some of her rules. These are some things you can be sure to count on if visiting my mom's house during conference.

1- The Big Candy Bowl - to entice us young children to pay attention during conference, my mom would buy lots of candy and put it into a bowl but we could only have it if we were in the room and not sleeping.

2- No Sleeping - I remember my mom throwing mini-sized candy bars (from the candy bowl) at my head whenever I would fall asleep in conference. I think Julia and Jenny have permanent dents in their heads from my mom trying to wake them up. But now since our family has evolved my dad and brothers-in-law are exempt from this rule for some reason.

3- You have to Watch Conference - This was the big rule. We weren't allowed to listen to it on the radio while doing something else or go with friends to watch it (my mom was too smart to believe that one) we had to be in front of the TV watching conference. If you had to go to the bathroom.... too bad. I'm really just kidding but you get the idea.

Brock is tickling my back - he looks so happy to be doing it!
Julia and Braden are glued together - I think she is giving him a pedicure in this picture... Isn't her hair cute though? She just got extensionsHere is Jenny and my mom. This is pretty normal to see one of my sisters laying on my mom's lap - my mom is really good at tickling backs.
Here's my pops, asleep as usual. Without fail he'll let out a big snore, stop quickly and peep open his eyes to see if anyone heard him then go back to sleep. Here is Jenny and the new member of our family - Eddison. Actually I'm not sure if he has a name but Miles calls him Bruno and Brock calls him Eddison. When we ask Miles what its name is he says "not Eddison". Either way we love that cat. Here is Torie being seductive...

Reagan is the crafty one of the family.... Well Jenny, Julia and Katie are crafty too - but Reagan is definitely the best. Here she is making bracelets. She is always doing crafty projects - making picture frames, staining furniture, scrap booking - you name it, she does it. And behind Rea is Hazen sleeping like a baby.
Torie and I have this game we like to play to see who can pull the uglier face. I definitely won in this picture but she can hold her own most of the time.

All in all, conference was great and my family was fun as usual. It was a great way to spend part of the weekend.

One Fun Weekend

Last Saturday Brock and I decided to go on a hike up Adam's Canyon. It was so beautiful to see all the leaves changing colors and there was a really strong scent of pine trees... I love that smell. It was nice to get out and spend some time together just talking about whatever we had on our minds. This is a picture at the waterfall at the end of the hike. Here is my muscle man

As a side note - here is my new obsession. These are the greatest shoes in the world. Brock got them for me and each time I wear them I realize more and more how much I love them. I know I'm spoiling my feet because I wore high heels last week to church and it felt like I was walking with a broken leg. I can't decide if I'm turing into boy or a hippie - either way I'm comfortable. This is a picture of me and my cute little sister Torie. She is so grown up and such a blast to be around. We took this picture after her day activity for Homecoming - she is a Junior in High School!! We are looking more and more a like and some people (cough... dad...) are getting us mixed up more than ever. I've gotten to the point where I will just respond to the name "Torie" but I figure if we look alike we should dress alike so I should be entitled to her clothes, right?
