The Castle

I've always thought my dad had a cool job. For my whole life he's been, essentially, a general contractor. He can do anything when it comes to building a home. It wasn't until the last few years that he's been licensed; a proud moment in my life. For the last three years he's been working a big job. I'd heard how big the job was and have wanted to see it but haven't been able to go. FINALLY on Saturday my dad and mom took me Mike and our boys to what has been dubbed as the castle. Now, while my dad is a licensed general contractor his specialization is concrete, He is a concrete specialist. The first photo is a close up of his stamped concrete work. the entire driveway is stamped like this. It's a big driveway. the stamps are about a 3ft. square. you can imagine then, that it would take a long time.

This is the guard house, just past it will be a gate to enter the property.

You can see half the magnitude of the driveway here, this is the left half of the house, you can see the other half through the porte-cochere on the right. the entire exterior is stone, solid block stone about a foot thick.

This is the hallway to the ski preparation room over the driveway. This driveway is still the stamping. To the right of my dad is a door. Inside the door is a room that has a bathroom that would typically be used by groundskeepers or maintenance workers. There are also boilers and valves to control the heated driveway.

Don't you think you'd feel like a princess living in a castle that looked like this?

This is the front door.

Inside the door looking to the left, a hallway. Where the scaffolding is, is a spiral staircase in a tower. Down this hallway is a bathroom on the left, the library to the right, the master bedroom to the right, and the office.

Inside the door looking to the right a hallway. Down this hallway to the left is a sitting room of sorts, the floral arranging room to the left, a butlers pantry, and the kitchen. This hallway leads to the bridge over the driveway to the ski preparation room. At the end of the hallway another spiral staircase leading downstairs.

When you step through the front door directly ahead of you is this room. If you ever saw Beauty and the Beast, that fireplace is as big as the one in the movie. I could almost stand up in it. For you Harry Potter fans you might be tempted to pick up some ash and say "Diagon Alley!" It might work. In this room there are three rows of Sheetrock. The third row from the bottom is backed with plywood so the homeowner can hang special items.

This room is to the right of the huge fireplace room. It could be a sitting room, a room for sitting.

This is the back patio. There is a big grill, and it will have a fire pit. The whole thing is heated to avoid ice build up.

This is the tower with the spiral staircase. In one of these the homeowner will have her taxidermy stuffed giraffe looking down the hallway, you'd see it when you look down the hallway.

The hallway to the ski preparation room reminded me of the bridge to Hogwarts from Harry Potter.

This is the ski prep. room it has a fireplace, a closet to store skis and a door to exit. Upon exiting there is a ski lift about 10 feet from the door. The property line had to be roped off because skiers were skiing on the property.

This is the library. It has two separate doors.

This beautiful window. . .

. . . and these built in shelves.

This is the office, you can't really tell how big it is but it will be beautiful. You can see from the roof that this ceiling is a turret shape.

No, this isn't another family room this is the master bedroom! The plans say there will be a TV on the ceiling. There is also a fireplace in the room. I wish I had one, how romatical!

This is the tub in the master bathroom.

This is the tile of the shower in the master bath.

Here is the "closet" there are two doorways on the left and two on the right. All closets for her clothes, shoes, purses, you name it. There is also a space for the dog and a closet there for all the dog toys. In the lower level of the home there is special room for seasonal clothing, and wine closet, 3 guest bedrooms which all have their own bathroom, and an exercise room. Outside the exercise room will be a spa/hot tub. I would like to befriend this homeowner.

This room is downstairs it's a mechanical "closet" the pressure gauges in the back are for the heated floors of the house.

This is her three car garage that will have a car wash bay. That will come in handy.

Driveway leaving the garage.

More driveway, and to think my dad did it all! He had help of course but isn't it cool?!

Here is her ski lift.

Again, my dad's job is totally cool. I have always loved to see what he's working on. There is a reason he gets jobs like this one because he's good at what he does. If you ever need work done I have his card!

Ryder James Despain

Ryder James made his premature debut on Super Bowl Sunday. Non football watchers that was Sunday February 5, 2012. He was born in the hallway of the hospital at 32 weeks on the nose. He was 3lb. 13 oz. and 16 inches long. This little kid has been a fighter since conception. His mom Lyndsie my super strong sister in law, was on bed rest for i don't know how many weeks with a placental tear, I think. But baby hung one, literally the tear healed and for the last few months Lyndsie and baby have been doing well thanks to an injection at a specified frequency. When he was born he came out crying much to the relief of Mom and Dad. He was on oxygen at first.

We went to visit the next day so the girls could see their mom. Josh and Jackson also got to see Aunt Lyndsie. We took the kids home and put them to bed and headed back to the hospital. We scrubbed in and headed back to see this new little guy. He is so tiny! I was a little scared to touch him but I did touch his little tiny foot. He was on oxygen for less than 24 hours.

He has a feeding tube and was able to have breast milk given to him through it.

He had an IV they tried to insert in his hand but he's just too small so it's in his foot.

Feb. 7th Lyndsie was able to hold him and I think they were letting her nurse him once a day, maybe twice, I wasn't there. I stole these pictures from her facebook.

Feb. 8. eyes open! Look at that face! I think he looks like his mommy.

The binky really shows how small he is.

Monday Feb. 13, at one week, one day Ryder graduated from his incubator to a bassinet. I got a quick visit after my own doctors appointment that day. He woke up when I started talking to him and then he pooped. After that someone called me the poop whisperer. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'd rather just say he's been waiting so long to meet his favorite Auntie Manda that he just had to open his eyes.

Ryder got a valentine!

Now he is two weeks and one day. Lyndsie says he's getting 6 of 8 feedings by mouth. He just keeps growing and improving everyday. We can't wait till he's well enough to go home and be with his Mommy Daddy sisters and brother.

Doesn't his daddy look happy. We can't wait till we can go visit him again.

Jackson got a two-fer. He got to do two things he likes at once, climbing and Curious George.

No children were harmed in the taking of these pictures or the duration thereafter.
