How might we serve the poor and those who have least? Perhaps we can start by asking who do I know in my life now who is poor and whom I can serve? It may be economic poverty or it could be that poverty of spirit has left them empty and bereft. Perhaps they have experienced loss or diminishment. The gift of yourself, your loving care, your presence, could make all the difference.

Tending Our Gardens – Br. Lain Wilson

Our brightest gifts cast the darkest shadows. When we can recognize them and name them, we can be more perceptive as to their impact on us and the world.

Reflecting on Jesus’ parable of the wheat and the weeds, Br. Lain Wilson encourages us to move beyond simple patience and actively “tend our own gardens.” By examining our failings and the shadows cast by our own gifts, we can implement spiritual disciplines that nurture health and holiness.
