Once you accept that in this world physics don’t apply, they’re two fantastic action films.

2·7 months agoI think the problem with Solo is that it was released just a few months after The Last Jedi. People were possibly Star Wars fatigued by this point. (Just speculation)
Disney were releasing one film a year, Force Awakens (2015), Rogue One (2016) and The Last Jedi (2017). Each film was released in December of their respective years, including Rise of Skywalker which came out in 2019. Why release Solo in March?
Considering the drastic reshoots and production issues to get the film done, I would’ve thought aligning the film to December would’ve of given production more time to breathe. PS I would love to see more of the footage shot by Lord & Miller, but just like the Rogue One reshoots, that’s locked in the Disney vault, never to be seen.
PS - I really like Solo as a movie. It’s a lot of fun and I own it on 4K!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any RPGs that take into account when you reload a save? Or that break the 4th wall like this?English
5·7 months agoYou had to kill enemies and then stab them with a special dagger to extract special sand that filled up an on screen guage.
That guage represented how far back you could rewind the game if you died or did something you wanted to undo.
My favourite part about this is that the entire story of the game is a giant flashback story as told by the prince.
Every time you died, the prince would say something like, “No, no, no, that’s not what happened. Let me tell the story again.”
Yep! Definitely had those in the house back in the day. I’m pretty sure there were a few even cheaper versions mixed in that were made from coloured paper as well.
That’s a great build…and keep it away from me! 🫣😁

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What 'bad' movie could you fix with a simple casting change?English
1·8 months agoIn regards to Star Wars, I remember watching the behind the scenes documentary on the Phantom Menace DVD where you get to see them auditioning child actors for the part of Anakin.
Specifically, you watch them screen test the final three kids, one of which is obviously Jake Lloyd.
In my opinion he was second place of the three, I could never understand why George chose him.

62·8 months agoI’ve realised that over time, a lot of my favourite films or ones that I enjoy and basically mainstream blockbusters.
I try to broaden my horizons but quite often, I find these amazing acclaimed films boring.
It’s not quite the same but I was amazed when I got the Criterion edition of Armageddon. All these bonus features about a great blockbuster film.
So imagine my disappointment when every other release from Criterion is a film I’ll probably never watch in the first place.
Example, I took a chance on Brazil because I was in a bit of a Terry Gilliam phase. I quite enjoyed that one. Then I tried Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. That DVD never got a second play.
The only one that I unsubbed to pretty fast was the 8bit guy. I generally enjoyed his videos and then in one of them, he had a fairly rare IBM PC and for some reason, he sticks a screwdriver into the power supply and blows a component.
But what really turned me off was when footage of him turned up on Reddit, taken by himself, of shopping in a place like Costco with his assault rifle on his back. I think he was taking pleasure in scaring some of the customers too.
(I think I’ve remembered that correctly)
Anyway, never went back to his channel after that.
EDIT: I found this Reddit page where someone asked what he did. Didn’t realise that was 5 years ago now!

I can attest to that, it’s my first and only 4K player.
I used to visit the 4K sub-reddit but soon left because people would shit on the PS5 for having no Dolby Vision support.
Personally, it doesn’t bother me because my TV doesn’t support DV either. I watch 4Ks on a budget! 😁
