I don’t know about the rest of the boob havers around here but I quit doing cartwheels the first time my tits hit me hard in the chin doing a cartwheel. Safety consciousness takes some of the whimsy out of it.

They do spin, but you have to get her just the right kind of dress that puffs out just right and she’ll be spinning in no time. Bonus if the dress also had pockets. She’ll smile HUGE, put her hands in the pockets, pull the sides of the skirt out and proudly proclaim it has pockets.

I am happy to report as a 50+ dude I still do cartwheels on occasion. I’ve done a few in the last couple months even. If kids are around we just might get in a cartwheel competition. If I’m walking someplace with a long hallway, a cartwheel calls. They always make people happier at a hospital. Do more cartwheels!

If I’m walking someplace with a long hallway

There’s a maintenance tunnel that runs between a couple of buildings where I work, housing a bunch of pipes for the boiler system. It’s probably 15ft wide, about 500ft of smooth concrete, with the two ends angled down towards a drain in the middle.

Every single time I’m in that tunnel, I wish I had a skateboard… I haven’t been on a skateboard in 30 years… One day I’m going to break a hip in that tunnel, get fired, and lose my health insurance but it will be awesome, and I’ll have the biggest smile on my face the whole time!

The real reason though is simple:

When you are younger, your center of balance is way more core and your arms/legs weigh a lot less.

As you grow your limbs become way heavier.

Think about how easy it is to pick up a 7 year old vs a 30 year old.

Well, when you do a cartwheel, you are also having to move the body of a grown adult, your own body that is.

So its possible if you are very fit, of course.

But for an average person, good luck haha.

General rule of thumb is that a cartwheel is similiar to a pull up.

Remember how easy pull-ups were when you were a kid? Same principle.

I don’t think this is correct.

I’m a middle aged man in poor overall shape but I can still do cartwheels.

I’ve never been able to do a pull up.

Cartwheels don’t require much strength. You aren’t on your arms for very long and don’t actually further extend your arms during the period when they’re touching the ground.

What cartwheels do require is coordination, flexibility, and balance.

… and practice. Lots of practice.

If I had to guess for most people the limiting factor as you age would probably be flexibility.

That’s assuming you knew how to do them when you were young. I learned it in my mid twenties, but would not envy someone trying to learn it in their mid forties or later.

It’s the lots of practice part

Lots of practice means lots of failure on the way.

Failure to do a cartwheel at 10 means trying again. Failure to do a cartwheel at advanced ages means a week of pain.

A lot of this is just growing and aging. Child bodies are great at flipping and spinning. Adult bodies less so. Older adult bodies break in ways that don’t quite heal all the way.

Not just the flexibility, people underestimate the forces an adult body generates by spinning that mass at those distances. A kid couldn’t break his own bones, but I could easily break a kid’s bones.

Most of it is not aging, it’s sitting on your ass all day and not using your body. Yeah, it’s easier for kids but we simply stop moving our bodies and then we unlearn all those precious abilities.
