The month that i was about to give birth to my first baby Max, i was negotiating with a recruiter about employment to Australia. The offer was around 80-85K Aus Dollars every year and i could bring my whole family (which at that moment comprises of Chad) and they will fix my Visa. I could remember that i was asking for about 100K a year because at that time, i had 5 years Systems Business Analyst confident experience in my belt. They couldn’t give it, but said there were other benefits on the package – but they wouldn’t disclose it until i sign.
At the time, we have just settled down in a new place (we moved to the room just across the previous), and i was anxious that i was about to give birth in a few weeks. How can i uproot my family from convenience? How can i raise my son without experiencing grandparents? With doubts (and a bit of sour-graping) i declined the offer.
3 years later, I’m hunting for jobs in Australia in the net. Colleagues in Melbourne said that nowadays companies rarely hire those without working visas. Applying for working visa will cost me about 200K pesos (almost 4 years of savings), and i would have to leave my family behind for awhile before i can bring them with me. Even though i qualify in the Skilled Occupation List. Should i have taken that offer 3 years ago? That might be the biggest what-if in my life so far.
