Thankfully The Walking Dead had already started declining in quality before I ever started it. Been meaning to, but just never have. Probably unlikely I ever will at this point.

DS9 was, I believe, the first real “serialized” Trek aside from the occasional two-parters. You can watch it out of order for the first couple of seasons, but after the Dominion War plot picks up, yeah, you gotta watch them in order. Luckily I didn’t see any of the TNG-era Trek until COVID so got to binge them in order as the gods wormhole aliens intended.

I’m the opposite. I loved ENT. Kinda had some heavy-handed post-9/11 plots which are really hard to watch today, but otherwise I liked the “how we got from there to here” and seeing the Trek Tech we take for granted either not exist yet or be highly experimental and dangerous. I get why people don’t like it, but I can look past that easily enough. Plus, the last season is basically one long TOS love letter.

SG and Battlestar are both on my “will watch when I have time” list that’s ever growing.

Good luck with the Expanse. Hope you enjoy it. There’s a LOT happening in the first season, so you really gotta pay attention to the factions and locations. They don’t really spell a lot of things out for you other than a short intro in the first episode. I just did my 3rd watch of it recently and picked up all kinds of details I never even came close to catching on my first watch.

I personally think it’s as good as its reputation. It helps that it’s adapted from a book series. I’ve only read the first three but the TV show definitely does them justice. Unlike Game of Thrones, there was still book material they hadn’t adapted before they wrapped it up at the end of the sixth season. It didn’t end on a cliffhanger, but it definitely left the door open to pick up with the arc it ended on. I haven’t read that far into the book series yet but planning to…eventually.

Aside from the alien MacGuffin, it’s a solid hard sci-fi series which I always appreciate. Love me some Star Trek, but stories that limit themselves to relatively near-future, plausible technology and obeying laws of physics, alien MacGuffin notwithstanding, really help sell it for me.

This is purely subjective, but the weakest season for me was the fourth which was the first one after Amazon revived it. Most of the conflict/plot was interpersonal. It wasn’t bad at all, but felt like “something totally different” coming into it during a binge watch right after Season 3. It hit its stride again with the last two seasons, so it wasn’t a letdown like GoT.

Well, the silver lining of being this radioactive is that I have a coin flip’s chance of either developing the powers of Q or spending the rest of my life in the beep chair. Wish me luck!

I think Piefed has a workable API now, but the big limitation for me is that all of the components that make up Tess are tightly coupled to Lemmy’s type definitions.

To support Piefed, I would need to make a translation layer to build Lemmy-esque objects from Piefed’s API responses. That’s perfectly doable, but Lemmy’s type definitions are also limiting a lot of things I want to do. I’ve extended a few of them but, really, I need to re-write most of these components to use platform agnostic interfaces that meet my own needs while mapping both Lemmy and Piefed objects to those.

Unfortunately, that’s going to take a lot of work that I just don’t have time to dedicate to right now. Life has been hectic to say the least.

The Lemmy API doesn’t combine duplicates/crossposts together and requires it to be done client-side by detecting duplicate URLs when calling getPosts() to generate the feed. This means most apps that do roll up crossposts can only do so for ones that come through in the same API fetch. It’s possible to roll up crossposts across different fetches, but having done that in Tesseract, it causes more user confusion than just letting it be a duplicate.

I’ve got a natural bias towards Tesseract because I build it, but it does roll them up both by URL and by title. The latter covers cases where someone posts identical things to different communities that don’t use a URL, such as questions to the Ask communities. No bonus points because it still doesn’t support Piefed, and it’s not looking like that’s going to happen any time soon.

AFAIK, Mlmym is the only “old” reddit UI. I’m not sure if it’s still maintained or not but the last commit was sometime last year.

Didn’t know Alexandrite wasn’t maintained anymore. I liked it.

Tesseract is sort-of like “new” reddit circa 2023 but without all the crap. It’s Lemmy only.

Voyager is also pretty popular, but not my cup of tea.

Blorp is I think relatively new but looks really nice. Haven’t played with it much.

I gotta give the showrunners credit. “Dinner Party” was both the most cringe-inducing episode as well as one of the best of the series. That’s really hard to achieve.

Seasons 4-6, I believe. My gripe is just them calling it an “original” of theirs.

For comparison, Hulu did a similar move for The Orville for its 3rd season. But instead of calling it a “Hulu Original” the title says “Hulu presents”.

Edit: Nevermind, I was wrong. Hulu is actually worse lol. “Hulu presents…a Hulu Original…A 20th Century Production…The Orville: New Horizons”. Though they did run the show with a new name (New Horizons) so maybe that does count as an original production.

Maybe it’s a country/market “original”?

I had to think, but the few times I remember seeing “Netflix Original” for shows that I knew 100% were not original to Netflix, they were Canadian shows. Pretty sure they were Schitt’s Creek, Continuum, and/or Orphan Black. Maybe Netflix was the only service carrying them in the US and that allowed them to call it an “original” with a straight face?

At least with Black Mirror, Netflix is producing them now. It’s not “original” to them (like The Expanse wasn’t original to Amazon) but at least they have an actual stake in it.

But yeah, I just ignore it lol.

Push the two sides of the loop together and bend it into a “J” / hook shape. It should hold shape long enough to get it in there. It also helps to come at it from a 45 degree angle. Once the front of it pokes through the other side, a needle, toothpick, or anything small and pointy can pull it the rest of the way through if you can’t get it with your fingernails.

I guess my gripe is mainly semantic in that it’s definitely not an original production by the second production company. Streaming companies tack on “original” or “original series” when they only either took over (Amazon and The Expanse) or just have the rights to stream it on their platform (Netflix with lots of shows they definitely didn’t produce).

If they’d simply had the title card say “An Amazon Production” I’d be fine with it.
