YW 😀

YW 😀

Part of the joy of watch parties like #Monsterdon / #MonsterMiru is that an awful film can still be enjoyable as everyone riffs on it. But I can understand not wanting to spoil a treasured memory.

I’ve only seen two, FIst of Fury, & Legend of the Eight Samurai. I watched that in #MonsterMiru watch party last October. It was on pretty late so I don’t remember much except it was pretty bonkers, & rated it 2.5/5.

The Chinese Connection is the US title for 精武門 (1972), English title elsewhere Fist of Fury, i.e. my favourite of Bruce Lee’s Golden Harvest output. Definite keeper.
I’ll have check out the other ones (& any alternate titles that I might know them by). Good excuse to add a bunch of films to my wishlist 😁

Doh! Need read when brain work right

1st time I’ve seen it, tropey but fun

I hadn’t realized there was a copy on YT.
I notice that’s 9 minutes shorter than the standard. It’s also got “HK theatrical subtitles”*, and the translation quality of those is usually… godawful 😆
*HK law back then (maybe still) said films shown in cinemas had to have subtitles in both Chinese and English. But the law never said they had to be any good!

There’s a little bit of Mr Vampire-style spells with chicken blood stuff, but this actually goes with Western-style vampires, not hopping goengsi.
Sammo Hung’s Encounters of the Spooky Kind really kickstarted the action-horror-comedy genre in HK and is definitely worth checking out.

It’s a Russian site (part of VK, the social media giant there) and IIRC Russia specifically passed a law removing copyright from “hostile” nations, i.e. ones that participate in sanctions.
Maybe technically legal in Russia but probably nowhere else.
I don’t ordinarily look for stuff there, but I got so frustrated yesterday trying to find stuff in my wishlist (only 1 in 20 available thru licensed sites) I resorted to it.
But I understand not wanting such links, I won’t post any more OK.ru.

Cool, looking forward to those features

Looks interesting! Will keep trying it over the next few days.

You’re right, thanks for the catch!
I love the added dynamism from Calvin (and the bat) breaking the frames.
In Argentina, they’re called the Semalvinas

I didn’t get hit by the paywall when I read it. Just tried to get a paywall-free link thru the Wayback Machine, and even that DID get hit by the paywall :(
Well, I watched Hawk the Slayer in #Monsterdon, then Beastmaster after in #MonsterMiru… and Beastmaster was so much better!
A great film? No. But an entertaining film? Yes.
