About SABR
SABR is a proven shaft, gear and bearing conception and design package. Developed to integrate into the design process and reduce product development time, SABR provides an intuitive graphical interface allowing the transmission system to be modelled at a level of detail appropriate to the current design phase. Additionally, it allows sensitivity studies to determine the effects of different geometric features, bearing types and gear positions, with immediate results. The solvers themselves are based on engineering standards as well as Ricardo’s product design, manufacturing and testing experience, and are continually updated to be kept in line with real-world test and development programmes. This software program has been adapted and used extensively by most of the consortium members as the main gear design and analysis tool. Variations of this model to perform surface wear and duty cycle analyses are also available. WindowsLDP employs computationally efficient and accurate semi-analytical formulations to compute the load distribution between multiple mating teeth of gears. With the predicted load distribution, it computes the loaded transmission error, root and contact stress distributions, mesh stiffness functions, tooth forces as well as other design relative parameters such as lubricant film thickness and surface temperature. User has the choice of using SI or English units in the analyses. WindowsLDP’s capabilities also include multi-torque analyses and manufacturing robustness analyses.

It simulates both rigid and flexible body dynamics by combining traditional rigid multibody dynamics with cutting-edge finite element technology for modeling flexible bodies, known as Multi Flexible Body Dynamics. The gear calculation covers all common types: cylindrical, bevel, worm, crossed helical, hypoid, and face gears. In addition to calculations based on standards ISO, DIN, AGMA, VDI, etc., numerous sizing and optimization tools are offered, as well as methods that go beyond the standards. The shaft and bearing calculation is fully integrated in KISSsoft®. Among other things, shaft strengths and rating life of bearings are calculated optionally taking into account internal geometry (ISO TS 16281). The calculation can include several coaxial shafts and their connecting bearings. Torsion and bending-critical eigenfrequencies of the shafts are determined. When calculating the shaft-hub connections, the system checks whether a connection is valid and whether the pressures occurring remain below the permissible material characteristic values. All calculation modules offer sizing functions for the strength-relevant geometric dimensions and the maximum transmittable torque.
