I believe this design breaks down once you prepare an ingredient that then gets split for use in two or more later steps.
But now I’m thinking which kind of diagram could be used as well. Some adaption of an UML activity diagram maybe?

Staying on the serious side, it bugs me how many “hardcore gamer” spent a fortune on their setup and then just connect their monitor and be done with it. Even the best GPU and the highest settings can’t help you when the colors are completely blown-out due to the monitors stock settings. I particularly love how I often see Trackmania players that complain that a track is “too dark”, but it’s actually just their miscalibrated monitor.

Yeah. I’ve been loving it as a rock solid base for a server. Trying to use it as a desktop though? For basic browsing and such, sure, but once you want to do anything complex and require recent packages it becomes a mess.


So I usually swap my GPU every other generation after ~5 years or so, CPUs less frequently, but I always give the old parts to friends, family or colleagues and I Haven’t heard of a single defect yet. So yeah, I just don’t believe that heat related failure is something I should have to care about at all. Instead, I’d rather optimize my cooling capacity towards silent operation.
Other than that, the throttling limit already is the throttling limit where the hardware operates well at, not the limit which at which the lifespan gets noticeably affected. Those are much higher. This isn’t like hardware from 20 years ago anymore.


I mean, for recent generations of hardware that’s pretty excessive unless you have put in a considerable amount of cooling. Otherwise, if you’re doing that to a part that’s been rated for 95 degrees for example, which many current CPUs are, you’re most likely just loosing out on value by not having picked a lower tier part that already runs cooler by design in the first place.
Generally, thermal stress, caused by frequent heating/cooling cycles also causes far more damage to hardware parts than sustained heat.

Slightly off-topic, but has anyone ever checked if the tri-counts given here are actually correct? The first one, sure, you can count that by hand and it seems to be more or less correct (since we can’t see the backside). The thrid and fourth are too hard too count, so we just have to believe that. The second one though? I don’t see how that can be more than 300 tris or so.
Some routing instance in between your users and your server might.
Although that should only be possible if the user has a hijacked client or you’re not using HTTPS. Or am I forgetting something?
While this is a very special and interestng use of this attack vector, I do think it often gets too much focus, mostly because it’s ignoring a much bigger problem: The average person doesn’t even know what the legit URL of a website should even be, and that starts with the TLD. Was it .com? Or maybe .org? Maybe some country-TLD or maybe one of the thousands of new TLDs like .world or .finance? If you don’t have a perfect memory of every URL of all the websites you’re using, being able to inspect the exact shape of each letter isn’t going to help you.


And for those that care about preservation and ownership: Physical releases on DRM-laden consoles aren’t the solution either. DRM-free products on a free platform are.
Your distro most likely just skipped that version. I distinctly remember getting excited about installing that specific version (on Arch). That said, I think that version was very shortlived due to a printer-bug or something like that.


Agree as well. Some of the hostile responses here are so insane I have wonder if they’ve even worked anywhere at all.
There’s so much to hate about Teams and Microsoft. Them trying to make the work status feature not completely useless isn’t it.

Many smaller projects like these often don’t have much of a visible online presence, so it’s nice hearing from the actual devs about the state of the project beyond what’s written into changelogs.


Exactly. This was less important before the internet got ubiquitous, but nowadays, when manufacturers can screw you remotely, it’s very important.
This kind of vertical integration, where a single entity controls both hardware and software shouldn’t exist.

Yeah, I really hope these are just the death throes of a slowly crumbling market segment (walled garden consoles).
Not only has the Steam Deck already blown a small crack into the almost entirely propietary handheld market, so much so that there’s now even a (niche) market with a bunch of different devices competing, but I also wonder what happens once the Steam Machine and whatever is happening with the next Xbox.
I’d usually be the last to root for Microsoft, but if their next device is really something more akin to a PC, then I wish them the best. That said, anything shipping with Linux, e.g. Steam Machines would still be my preferred choice of course.

Ultimately I’m not very confident, but I think I agree. The text and layout look very human to me and it’s looks all pretty human to me. There are some inconsistencies in the ports and the linework on the inner age between the three laptops on the left, but I think that’s just the artist doing some touch-ups on it after already having copied the laptop across the panels.

And that’s exactly why I think that recommending Mint to gamers is actually evil.
If you want to use any of those features exclusive to Wayland there’s no option to do that on Mint. Your only choice is to completely restart and use another distro, which I don’t think that leaves a good impression for anyone who is just starting out with Linux.
Yeah, I’ve noticed there’s this subsection of people that have a completely wrong understanding of what the term “stable” means in the world of distros, and that it often creates as many problems as it solves, particularly on a desktop PC, or even worse, a gaming PC.
And for there record: Stable just means that things don’t change. That doesn’t mean it contains less bugs, is easier to use or is more secure. And on the flip side it doesn’t mean that distros that are not “stable” are necessarily “unstable” in any shape or form.
