The YouTube app for Android. It’s become my hobby to observe how it gradually becomes worse and worse. But not with dark patterns but just plain bad handling.

• all icons became bigger over time, having to scroll more if you have multiple playlists
• sorting has recently become almost impossible, you have to hit that perfect one pixel wide spot to rearrange videos
• the search, oh my… 3 results, 5 unrelated videos, twenty shorts, 5 suggestions, 3 more results, repeat
• only shows couple of playlists, have to click on “show all”
• playlists are sorted alphabetically, or by last addition, varies from update to update. Muscle memory is useless
• all the above varies from device to other device to browser to PC, there’s no consistency
• and so much more

If I want to use YouTube seriously I’m using Firefox and ublock, but I reached a point where I’m looking forward to every app update to enjoy the “improvements” they made for a “better user experience”.

The German intro (as well as the whole series) of Captain Future has a completely different soundtrack. And it is widely regarded as the better one (the 70s/80s style gives the show a whole new feeling).

Sadly the German version is heavily censored, so we will never get the best of both worlds.

That’s why I love gog, and it’s the only store that gets my gaming money. The games are mine, as long as I keep a backup of the installer. I can do with them what I want.

I see why the newest AAA games are a must have for younger gamers, but as an older one I now have the patience to simply wait until it releases on gog if I actually have the urge to play it.

Actually there was a story where Scrooge McDuck uses a mirror satellite to shine sunlight on a factory of him to cut down costs at night time. He even starts selling it to citizens of Duckburgh. That must have been a story from the 70s.

I adore Tron. It’s sometimes surprisingly spot on in its predictions of future tech, and other times so completely bonkers like Hackers.

But visually it’s absolutely stunning, every time I watch it I’m amazed what great work the Special Effects people have done in a time when people went to the Arcade to play Pac-Man.

As good as the new movies were, they don’t hold a candle to the classic. When they went to the old server in Ares I finally felt back home again!

Client side scanning is not yet here and won’t come with the current law. The can scan cloud storage and, if possible, messages. Voluntarily, the are not forced, but they are eager to do it. Client side scanning will come with the next iteration of the law which isn’t just here yet. And hopefully will never come.

They are definitely doing it. From day one onwards. Business as usual for these companies. At least that’s what I believe.

They really want to protect the children. And want to continue their scanning. For the greater good of cause.

But to think they won’t be taking advantage of this is, at least in my opinion, giving them too much credit. These companies would sell their grandmothers if they had one.

The good thing: It’s voluntary for companies. The bad thing is: For now.

Signal will not comply, so all the more reason to use this.

But the big companies (meta, Google etc) will definitely use this. If only to get them an itsy bitsy tiny more data about people. Sorry, I meant the ability to protect the children of course.

Das ist unentschuldbar. In so einer Situation den Hinterbliebenen noch das Leben zusätzlich zu erschweren sollte eine Straftat sein!
