No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Microsoft has billions of dollars and thousands of people. So why is Windows still worse than Linux ?English
2·12 days agoYou kind of haven’t addressed the point though, you’ve just pointed out that linux experiences memory pressure less often.
But OPs point is that Windows is better at it when you inevitably fill its memory. I run multiple clusters of docker containers and virtualised systems in my day to day, and its true that linux (Ubuntu at least) isn’t the best at huge memory pressure, especially when I fill swap. And I’m running the latest intel chip with 32gb. I wish I’d gone 64gb… but, memory prices.
I don’t know if thats better or worse than Windows though, I haven’t touched an MS machine in a decade.
Something like bunsen?
They’re the ones who have built the environment we’ve inherited.

1·2 months agoWe definitely encountered challenges, like rouge data sets from silod teams, rehydration of backups, etc. but we managed to comply with the right to be forgotten. And these are large companies. If someone as a data engineering manager admits to not being able to do it? Well thats either a resourcing problem, a negligence problem, or a skill issue.

6·2 months agoI actually really dislike that abot pop os tbh. I know its silly. But branding does matter. And a name is about as close to an identity as you can get.

There were a lot of fears around capital flight when France implemented their wealth tax and it just… didn’t happen. Basically the things that actually matter to economies and societies, like companies, skilled workers, and infrastructure doesn’t just up and leave on some rich dudes tantrum.
I like an LVT, but capital flight arguments against more targeted wealth taxes aren’t well founded for the average voter. Basically. They’re a net good for most people.
