Until you are out driving and its clear, no sign of snow yet, weatherman predicts a light dusting for the day. Then all of a sudden, thundersnow. 4 inches of snow dumps down in an hour, roads are a disaster. Every one suddenly forgets how to drive. Wrecks everywhere. Every main road is congested, every side road is congested because every main road was congested, it takes you 2.5 hours to get home when it should have only taken 20 minutes.
It looks cozy and all, but I’m happy my area doesn’t get much snow anymore. People suck at driving in it, it sucks to clear it out, it’s cold, wet and slippery when walking.
Opinions vary, but this is the good kind of snow IMO. It’s light and fluffy, not wet and heavy. You can easily walk through 2 feet of it, and it brushes off the car easily. Doesn’t clog up the snowblower, either. Downside: no snowballs, they just disintegrate.
Having to clear it does suck at times, but I’m just visiting so it’s quite nice to experience. I miss it.
Central or western NY would be closest to CT if you want proper lake effect snow. You need to be near a Great Lake. There’s only a few areas in the country that get snow like this.
Tug Hill and surrounding areas (it’s a pretty big area on a map) get massive snowfalls usually. I remember driving around north of Syracuse (Fulton, Volney, Oswego county area) and seeing road signs on top of other road signs because the snow gets so deep. Balconies on the third floor of a building because the snow gets deep enough to drive your snowmobile right up to the deck when the snow piles up. Blew my mind and i live less than 2 hours away.
