Love Science Fiction, Cyberpunk, post-apocalyptic settings; Fan of the games of the defunct Arkane Studios. Listening to (Power-, Speed-, Thrash-)Metal, Gothic, Deathrock, EBM, Vaporwave, Lo-Fi; Classic and Musicals are fine too. Can’t stand Hip-Hop.

Probably going either Berserker/Nightblade for those piercing/bleeding/cold synergies or Berserker/Necromancer for the 2h/cold/piercing style. I'm not completely sure for now haha

Not gonna go for a chaos build for a first char tho - i am such a masochist that i deleted every single thing in my stash when FoA came out lol

Cloud saving was always wonky in Grim Dawn, including inducing performance problems; i would advice you to disable it if you don't need it,

Wildmimic OP ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

Nowadays there's Diablo 2 Resurrected which runs fine under Linux using Proton.

Also, there is a long running community mod (since 2016) for Grim Dawn called Reign of Terror which tries to replicate the D2 feeling in Grim Dawn - just be aware that although it already has been updated to work with the new expansion, there might currently be some unexpected issues around.

You might use something like Syncthing to synchronize the prefix data, making cloud saves unneccessary without much effort.

Wildmimic OP ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

I realized that quickly. I only play hardcore in ARPGs, and the character show in in the screenshot is already populating my graveyard, something that hasn't happened to me that quick in a long time (most of my chars die somewhere in the transition from veteran to ultimate)

Good for you - for me cloud saving introduced stutters, which were caused by the way they handled updating the cloud saves; always felt like it feels if your HDD i/o is too slow to cope with something and the whole thing starts grinding down, while being installed on a NVME drive. Disabling the cloud saves made those issues disappear.

Yeah, Berseker/Nightblade gives a huge amount of mobility, even if not leaping into the fray; just combining Pneumatic Burst and Rallying Cry makes you zip across the screen :-)

I've got thousands of hours in this one! It's my all time favorite ARPG. The only thing that even gets close to this is Last Epoch, but that's a completely different feeling to play.

Occultist has always been my favorite secondary class - there's something for everyone in there ;-)

LoL it wont stop a those 5 builds, i can tell you as much haha

Wildmimic OP ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

Haven't played it in coop, but it is an ARPG, meaning text/interactions are neither common nor needed (although i always enjoyed the codex entries one can collect)

Its mainly noticeable as a unstable framerate independent from any real system load. The Latency of your internet connection is the actually deciding factor while the game is waiting for the cloud save to update.

The issues you describe sounds very much like the consequences of packet loss somewhere between the host and the clients. Anyone using mobile internet or WiFi instead of all cables? Thats the main culprit for these problems - their net code never was super stable and badly coped with spotty connections.

Yeah, let him plug in a cable and see if it changes anything 😁

It's the name for the currently occurring Apocalypse in game.

I currently use wifi6 because i am too lazy to deal with the cable right now, but i also don't play online. Would definitely go back to the good old cable when changing that

I'm A Game Dev Who Got Layed Off From His Non-Game Dev Job

Hello, just wanted to share my story as a reminder with all the lay offs in the gaming industry, it has been terrible outside of it too. I've been working as an automation QA for a pretty decent software company and I was about to hit like 11 years on the job. Also on the side I've been trying to get my own indie game dev studio ...

Wildmimic ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

I've been on the receiving end of "making the bride look good" for selling the company too, 3 times in my life. Either you still have a job but everything around you falls apart because there aren't enough people to keep shit running, or you lose the job; both variants suck. I always was on the team "keeping my job", but it also always ended with me fleeing as soon as i could because working conditions deteriorated fast.

Wishlisted your game !

This looks awesome, although i might be occupied converting my existing storage into something that can work with this. installing 20k repacks to pack them into archives again might take a while ... fuck.

My watercooler for my CPU comes in about 2 weeks - after moving my PC into it's nice new case i'm gonna start migrating lol

Wildmimic ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

I'm not sure either. I saw someone including their Gog installers on github, which would mean i don't have to do all of this. Let's see, i'm gonna get myself the docker container in the next days and will add a comment regarding progress.

Wildmimic ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

For sure. This could be the first project that can take the place of Playnite and even surpass it for me, so i am pretty hyped about it.

6554€, starting with HL2.

@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

My Linux Steam client uses 391MB RAM - the last reboot has been 2 weeks ago.

Wildmimic ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

At least Counterstrike was also available - i know because i installed steam after buying HL2 for a LAN party i was going to, and we also played CS at that point. 2004 sounds about right - must have been about 23 at that point.

Wildmimic ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

Steamemu can be nice, but to be honest, i really like a lot of the Steam clients features. I like opening the Wiki for games in the steam overlay and seeing all game updates in a nice overview with patch notes, and i like the steam forums (toxicity aside - if the devs use them, they are a good information channel for planned stuff and submitting bug reports)

Wildmimic ,
@Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus avatar

I also don't care much about achievements, and i simply sync my Faugus / Heroic game Prefixes with Syncthing, so Cloudsaves are a non issue if they weren't provided by Steam. Steam Workshop works well, but i have to agree that i would prefer if the downloading of mods wasn't coupled with the need to have a license for the game on steam; some games like Rimworld, KSP and Factorio have their own clients (which is ok)

But i have to admit i don't really know if the need to have a steam game license to download mods is something steam is enforcing or an option under control of the publisher. Since the decision if Steams DRM is used is up to the publisher, it would be quite strange to force this restriction on them.
