At the end of the day it’s the culture that did this. Some of that love has to come from people you’re not attracted to, otherwise you get mixed motives like what you’re describing. Toxic masculinity is called that for a reason, right? Women already know how to love and support each other. They shouldn’t be expected to bear the burden created by an ailing culture of male loneliness.

So on the basis that he’s Trump, I will assume the diagonal opposite is true: the US military is spent while their many enemies (not to mention false friends) are ready for more, there’s no deal on the table and possibly even no table, and Iran is presumably sprinting towards nuclear capabilities after they assassinated the new leader’s father and convincing them they need it after all.

ST is levied on the same of goods irrespective of the buyer. You’re not exempt just because you owe other forms of tax to another government too. If a seller chose not to charge you on that basis, it would come out of their pocket.

I see it as a bad tax personally. It affects lower earners proportionally more of their wealth, and is often politicised (as when they levy higher tax on sugary soda or smokes). I don’t necessarily hate the idea of discouraging smoking, but the same legal argument can then be used to tax things I might see as normal. That’s how legal precedent works, it generalises and tends to be applied in unexpected ways.

Learning about how this formula causes waves to crest was such a lightbulb moment for me.

There’s no reason there couldn’t be a national endowment for open source, the way there is (or was) for the arts. A non partisan governing body would direct and oversee funds towards projects for the creation, dissemination, promotion, and maintenance of open source software for the whole world. Funding could come from a big tech wealth tax, and governance could be drawn and elected by top maintainers as a bylaw. Just off the top of my head.

Obviously “reshape society completely” is a preferable option, I’m just daydreaming

Putting forward Unicorn Warriors Eternal, Central Park, and City: the Animation. The other suggestions are pretty great too.

It has mature emotionality, but my 8 year old was okay with it. We agreed it was good TV, but didn’t quite recapture the magic of classic AT. I think because it’s too serialised, too long, too grounded.
