I am not familiar with the curriculum of every single accredited engineering program in Canada, and few people are. I am fairly confident that I do not know as little about them as you do, however.

You can see the CEAB accredited programs and decide for yourself if they meet your personal criteria – they all seem to include a substantial variety of advanced mathematics.

The key differentiation is between a licensed, professional software engineer with a stamp, and a software developer who was given “engineer” in their title at work.

Cheap kitchen scales are $10-20 and are accurate enough for cookies. I’m not suggesting that volumetric measurements should go away, but you will find that cooking or baking by weight is much more reproducible than by volume.

CAEB accredites Canadian university programs, including civil engineering programs, electrical engineering programs, and yes, software engineering programs. In addition, provincial engineering organizations such as PEO require that all professiomal engineers are employed as engineers in training (EIT) for a period of time, have passed an ethics exam, and are in good professional standing.

A programmer builds the software. An engineer designs it.

It’s a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, I have much less time and patience for personal software projects. I prefer to do carpentry or sports as a change of pace. On the bright side though, the experience I’ve gained from working professionally makes the projects I do tackle go much more smoothly than when I was an amateur.

I too enjoy actually writing code. I feel fortunate that I was able to make a career out of something I enjoy so much. I am not sure that most people had that experience. Alas, it seems like the industry is paying me to set up guardrails and supervise AI agents. I am not sure how long this will last, but at least I know that I will always be able to enjoy programming as a hobby if nothing else.

Too much CYA decreases the effectiveness of chlorine, so keeping it around 30 ppm is optimal.
