Not really, we gather loads and loads of seeds from the cones (best while it’s still snowy, March-April) by collecting branches that break off on their own in windy weather and drying the cones at home, and just scatter seeds in pots; sometimes something sprouts. Sometimes they just sprout from other outdoor pots if there are alder trees around.

Technically, TTS/STT are mostly MLs; I’m pretty sure many people run these. I have a setup but I’m better with buttons that with spoken words, and I listen to ambient sounds or music. I think some day I’ll make voice assistant for talking to while driving, but that’s not a trivial task hardware-wise, even if I used cloud LLM layer, which I won’t. Putting AI on baremetal sounds like an interesting project.

I have a homemade “local agent” that can actually “code” somewhat, I use it just to figure out how this thing works on the inside practically. Alko is overpriced, has extremely limited selection and most stuff is of very low quality, and it actively kills off all local small manufacturers. We have 2 wineries in my town, neither got into Alko. They only exist to feed government funds and corruption now (top management just happens to get bonuses, not even mentioning total lack of monitoring of bribes from industry), who cares about healthcare of population when people can import alcohol through EU, cook it at home, and until recently just smuggle extremely poisonous stuff from Russia (I know people who did it repeatedly well after the border was “closed”).

Now, altruistic feelings aside, in addition to somewhat endangered tits and not really endangered sparrows, there are birds that are totally lethal for cats. Some of those, like owls, are often really hard to spot for an untrained human, for they are very fast and make no noise. Others, like crows and seagulls, are just very fast and devious. And they would totally try to do anything in their power to prevent the hunting for their babies, from instilling fear, to physical damage of various severity (that they could also inflict onto humans, I guess rarely lethal in Europe, but eye traumas happen; I know of conflicts between humans and crows where government had to resort to inviting professional military sniper to settle it. Hunters know not to mess with owls lest they are fine losing their face, literally.).

So this is just another theory that does not require cat predators and quite fits the setup described.

My neighbors keep cats outside; those look scared to death most of time this season - for a good reason, there is an extremely hungry owl family learning to fly here (that only I and people on Fediverse who saw my shitty smartphone pictures know about). Those are an addition to everpresent lynxes, a bear, and at least one wolverine, yet it’s never this scary for them as now, it seems.
