No matter how kind you are, German children are still kinder.

The factories may use fossil fuels, but I do not.

The fossil fuel companies are responsible for their own actions, as are the companies and people who still choose to use fossil fuels.

The people who have made an active choice to avoid fossil fuels (or the people without a choice) are not at fault. Blaming them instead of the people who can make a difference helps no-one.

    “we all use”

Speak for yourself. I refuse to pay them a cent, and have taken every step I can to distance myself from them.

Try induction. It’s so much better than standard electric, and in my opinion, also better than gas.

Who would have thought that having something do the thinking for you would have a negative impact on learning.

98% of hydrogen is currently made from fossil fuels.

While it’s possible to make hydrogen from renewable electricity, you immediately lose at least 60% of your energy in the electricity to chemical to electricity conversion steps. For comparison, batteries only lose 5-10% in the round trip charging.

Hydrogen really only makes sense in applications where batteries can’t be used, or efficiency is not relevant. So many companies have publicly announced their new hydrogen vehicles, then quietly stopped using them and started using battery electric vehicles instead.

Hydrogen just costs too much, and the hard limit of chemical efficiency means it will never be cheaper than batteries.

    Ritalin long acting.

The default (short acting) Ritalin worked, but it was like a rollercoaster. When it worked, it was amazing. As it started to wear off a few hours later, I couldn’t even get out of bed.
I was on the minimum dose. I tried cutting the pills in half and taking the second half later in the day, but that just gave me 2 cycles per day instead of 1.

The long acting is much milder, but the wearing off effect is also milder. I’m only 1 up from the minimum dose and I’m quite happy with it. I just can’t schedule anything important between 4pm and 8pm.

You’re not alone. I dropped out of university partly because I was making a Minecraft mod instead of studying. I knew study was important and I knew the tasks were interesting, I just couldn’t stop.

Something that forces a pause (router schedule) can help initiate a task change, but that doesn’t stop you thinking about what you were just doing. Sometimes you just don’t have the executive function to be able to change task.

I never found a good solution until I had an effective medication.
I’m certainly not fixed now, but the same strategies are a little more effective since. Coffee (and other stimulants) can assist too, just don’t rely on them as a miracle cure.

My memory is not great, so I know a lot of things without any memory of having learnt them. It’s a little disconcerting.

I’ve heard of Australian bushfires traveling close to 100km/h (60mph) with a strong wind.

What’s even worse is if the flame front is diagonal to your path of travel. The flames might be going 50km/h, but if they’re coming at you at 60%, then you have to be going at least 100km/h to outrun them.

Fires don’t need to follow roads. If a fire is traveling perpendicular to the only road you have, you can’t drive away from it.

It took a long time and some trial and error, but I have finally found medication that helps (Ritalin - long acting).

I don’t feel like a different person, and I don’t feel like I don’t have ADHD. I just feel a little more in control.

    Examples

Instead of working on a side project for 12 hours straight and forgetting to eat or work on the important tasks, I’m working on a side project for 12 hours with food and drink breaks, while being aware that the important tasks aren’t being done.

Instead of getting irrationally angry when interrupted and going straight back to what I’m working on, I get angry for a few seconds, take some breaths to calm down, then listen to the person who interupted me before going back to what I was working on.

Instead of wandering aimlessly around the house unable to focus on anything, I wander for a while, then decide to have a nap because I’m now aware of the exhaustion.

It really isn’t a miracle drug, but my life is so much better now. Most of the time I don’t even notice the effects, but I really notice the lack of effect when I forget to take them for a week.

Are you using a rechargeable battery?

AA batteries are typically 1.5V, but some rechargeable ones are only 1.2V. This leads to the product thinking the battery is always low even when it’s fully charged.

If you have a Li-ion rechargeable, you get the opposite problem. The battery is actually around 2.7V, and has a converter internally to step it down to 1.5V. You will keep getting 1.5V until the battery goes flat with no warning.

It’s not easier than Windows, it’s the devil you know.

Sure it’s slow, but you know how slow. It does updates at the wrong time, but you know it will turn on again eventually. It sends all your data to Microsoft, but no-one has come to your door to harass you because what’s in your data.

Linux is some obscure thing that would take time and effort to learn, and you’re tired from work and just want to use a computer without thinking about it.

Things might be different if Windows wasn’t the default/only option when buying a new laptop.

Of course it is. Clean air doesn’t generate child porn for you.
